So with the new bike, have both Ultegra and 105 sets. From my short experience, Ultegra better on the flat, 105 better for climbing. Any thoughts?
August is the worse time for riding in Sydney, wind is hurrendous. |

Okay, for the MTBers out there:
I'll be getting a new mtb bike!
It's a Fondriest (!) for 27.5 inch wheel size(!!). I'm not a fan of the 29er wheels, but I want something bigger than 26, so 27.5 is perfect! The bike will weigh a staggering 8.2kgs! Crazy light for a mtb! It'll be complete with a Sram XX1 groupset, so that means 1 x 11 gear ratio! It will also come along with a Formula fork.
Here's a pic of the frame:
I am jealous man, really nice bike. My Specialized 29er (i prefer them, as i am large person and i like them rolling big) weights 13kgs with wheels and all that.
I am two months after that horribly broken collarbone, but i am so missing my mountain bike. I have to discuss it with my doctor. My arm still hurts, but i will ride again and feel no pain, like Rocky in training.

No buddy thats not how it works at all, Ultegra is a big step up from 105 in all areas. Shimano runs Dura Ace as top of the line then Ultegra followed by 105, Tiagra then Sora. For mine Ultegra is the best bang for the buck and thats what I run on all my bikes. Ultegra also weighs less than 105 so that helps when you get into the hills.

Got a nice surprise today, my new bike arrived early. It weighs a bit more than 7kg which is ok considering the size and the pedals (some old Shimano's, my newer ones are on my broken bike 600km away).
Weather is said to be good tomorrow, can't wait to finally ride again after a few month.
Sweet looking ride matey and weighs in pretty light, I like the mavics as well, the roll well and no flex which is great, I run the SL version as a spare set

The curse of the data sync failed message keeps getting me on Strava. Any other Android users having problems? All I can see of my rides where I had that problem on the app is distance, speed and profile. Annoying, as I wanted my segment times. |

Hoping to go out today to see if there is a major difference, but from what l have felt already, just feels like l have an extra gears to use when climbing. |

Went out with my buddy yesterday, dam it was tough. The wind was like extreme...Weather conditions in Denmark you know....
https://gyazo.com/...ea1378e6c4
Around 50 km, 26.5 km/h in average, a few nasty hills. I know the pulse is messed up the first 16 minutes - I was waiting for my buddy to show up. Late as always 5th I'm out on a race bike, so I'm a newbie. I don't even know which bike I'm riding it's an older Trek, nvm (: |

Has anyone have experience riding gravel roads with road tires?
I have a 100k race coming up and there is a 3k gravel section. I'm using Michelin clinchers (6-8 suggested pressure) usually at pressure about 7,5. How should I change it to reduce a risk of a puncture?

Reduce it just a little (~0,5 bars). I was surprised to learn how much pressure the pros put in theirs for cobble events.
A little less pressure will save a good output on non-gravelled parts and will slightly increase the contact surface on gravel, thus reducing the risk of puncturing (you puncture when the pressure is applied on one particular point, in excess).
Use wider clinchers if you've got some available (25 mm at least), as they work well with less pressure, and preferably rather new ones (a set that doesn't show any cut on the rubber). |

Will try a little lower pressure as it seems most pros use lower pressure for P-R and that should be a little like gravel. Probably won't buy wider tires as this is the only gravel section for the whole year.
Is it just me or is there no clear choice for riding on gravel. I remember that about 5 years ago I rode a stage race with several gravel sections and used some Vredestein tires (suggested to me by a trainer) with really high min/max pressure.

Your rides from the last 2 days show up fine on Strava.
I use the Android app aswell. When doing the initial sync I have to leave it for a bit - it usually comes up with data sync failed before finally uploading. Sometimes the app will crash before it has synced, but it remembers the ride and syncs it when i re-open the app

Ah I see the Strava trend is expanding to these parts too I've used for about a year starting with using my phone, but now Garmin, which I'm sure you find much more accurate and the Garmin Edge 500 is very affordable

The same happens with iOS, especially the longest rides (120 km or so in my case) take 3 or 4 minute to sync the first time, and come back with an error message about every time. Then I try again and it syncs in 30 seconds or so. |

That all depends on what ratios you are running i.e 28 tooth rear cog on the back and compact crankset and you will get up any climb out there. I run a reguar crankset 53-39 with a 28 tooth rear cog as a bailout gear and outside of the real steep grades never use it. I will also add the more you climb the better you will get at it buddy

Wow. Since I've climbed in France, now almost 2 weeks ago, I haven't touched a bike anymore. So weird. I don't even want to right now |

Put money down on a 2013 Giant TCR Advanced SL today running Dura Ace 7900, I have been blown away by how good my current TCR Advanced 1 is so couldn't go past the SL with a hefty price cut. Also wanted a black bike as white can be a real pain to keep looking clean as every mark shows up so that was the final clincher. Will keep my current Giant for general purpose/ wet weather and the SL for fun long ride days.
