Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
hellboy
Great ride by Pate and FuglsangSmile
And you probably messed up the times next to some pictures, probably these starting with 1h30..
Go Roman!

FreitasPCM
Cancellara again. When will his engine fail?

roturn
Thanks.
Indeed the time were quite strange for some reason. As I don`t have enough time now and couldn`t find an easy error that fast I deleted all the times this time and just the result in the end.

I won`t be here at the weekend, so not sure if I can report any more until Sunday evening.

BikeRoel
nice stage, and that pate was the best of your team today that was something I didn't thought.

Great 3rd.. Cancellara unbelievable strong.. nice result for Fuglsang, too!

roturn
Thanks.
Cancellara`s result is quite similar to his real Tour de France 2010 time trial win. Similar time gaps to even better riders.

And Pate is my strongest time trialist in the Dauphine, so no big surprise. He is 76, Fuglsang just 74.

Anonymer
Cancellara is a monster, but good results with Pate and Fuglsang, Cancellara and Riblon are probably two big threats now

Tombola
Top 3 should be possible in this CdD!

@ Anonymer: Thanks. These two are indeed the big favourites now as the mountain stages aren`t that hard.
@Tombola: For the same reason I would be happy the get a top 3. All the French riders seem to be in an excellent condition. Riblon, Pauriol, Bouet or Rolland.

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 5
St-Paul-Trois-Châteaux - Risoul
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-1.jpg
As you can see, the climb isn`t very long and there isn`t any other climb before to exhaust the weaker climbers. Nevertheless Fuglsang has to gain time today if he wants to improve.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-2.jpg
Bideau (FDJ) with a long solo escape. No one wanted to join the French and so he will have a "nice" day in the television.
With ~8min back he isn`t a big danger for the overall.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-3.jpg
Our Garmin team is doing the pace. We hope to make the race as hard as possible so that Cancellara or Riblon can`t relax before the climb. The Leopard guys are watching us in the 2nd row.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-4.jpg
5 riders with a mid stage attack. These are better climbers and also a small danger. Hivert (Saur), Kišerlovski (Skil), Trofimov (Katusha), Noval (Euskaltel) and El Fares (Ag2r).

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-5.jpg
Because of the new race situation Sky is doing most work now and our riders can go back into the peloton again. With Boasson Hagen and Wiggins they have still two well placed riders.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-6.jpg
Although Wiggins is one of the best climbers in the peloton and we expected him to attack today he is working for his young Norwegian team mate. He already proved a great form but the finish might be too hard for Boasson Hagen I think,

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-7.jpg
The same happens with Leopard-Trek. Cadel Evans was expected to lead the team but now he is also working for Cancellara. Will this Dauphinee be a race of the puncheurs?

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-8.jpg
The group already reaches the climb but the advance is small now. Benjamin Noval is trying an attack now but this looks very desperately.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-9.jpg
Kreder and Pate are increasing the pace a lot, while Fuglsang is waiting for the right moment.
Many riders fall back now and just ~30 riders are able to follow them.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-10.jpg
With 1km to go and a very high pace by Fuglsang there are still some riders left in this group including Cancellara and Riblon, while Boasson Hagen has problems now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-5-11.jpg
Fuglsang did most work today of the favourites and so he was too tired to win the stage.
Pauriol with another strong performance ahead of De Greef and Fuglsang, who gains just 22s on Cancellara and Riblon. Not enough probably.

This is so crazy, Cancellara still leading after the first mountain stage?! Must be in great shape!

Oh wait, it's the motorcycle. Pfft

Anonymer
good 3rd with fuglsang, too bad Cancellara and Riblon were also very strong, probably stronger that expected. 3rd overall is probably the best possible now

Pellizotti2
Third in that stage is a great result for Fuglsang. Too bad Cancellara used his 2009 Roubaix bike today. De Greef and Pauriol also was also impressive today, according to me.

I hope he can gain some more time on Cancellara and Riblon in the next stages.

Thanks all.
Riblon has 73 or 74 in mountain but Cancellara with just 68 and 78 hill is really surprising. Seems to be in super form one month earlier than expected.
Fuglsang was indeed quite strong, but not much luck in the end.

Before the next reports the Tour of Zeeland preview

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-logo.jpg

The DELTA Tour Zeeland or "OZ Wielerweekend" until 2007 is an annual 3-day-race in the Netherlands. It was held the first time in 1988 and is always around the region "Zeeuws Vlaanderen". Record champion with two wins is Rick Flens, who won it in 2003 and 2005.
Sutton, Farrar and Boom won it for the Garmin squad, so we really hope to continue this success story.

Garmin squad in 2012
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-Team.jpg
This is one of the strongest teams we could have sent to this race. Especially Boom and Farrar are big favourites and previous winners but also the two Australians Bobridge and Meyer can do well here as Jack`s 2nd in 2011 proves.
But also the domestiques Vansummeren or Felline might do well in this short stage race.

DELTA Tour Zeeland - Stage 1
Hulst - Hulst
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-1.jpg
A very short, flat ITT. As the race has just 3 mostly flat stages this prologue can be very important for the general classification.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-2.jpg
Jos Van Emden one of the first on the road so you can`t really say anything good or bad over this time.
3'45

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-3.jpg
M.Wyss is the next. He became a good prologue specialist and shows his talent today.
3'41

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-4.jpg
Tyler Farrar the first of our bets. His form is still quite good after the Giro and so he takes the lead.
3'28

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-5.jpg
Lancaster on the road. Also Saxobank with some good riders here.
3'37

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-6.jpg
Markus Fothen was in the top 10 last year and wants to repeat this.
3'36

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-7.jpg
Stef Clement is one of 3 great time trialists of the Rabobank squad. Good time by him.
3'37

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-8.jpg
Konovalovas is easily seen with his National jersey. His time shows that he isn`T in such a good form at the moment and won`T be Saxobank`s leader.
3'50

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-9.jpg
Westra is one of the biggest favourites for this race. He also takes the best time of his team`s riders.
3'34

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-10.jpg
Lars Boom on the way to repeat the stage and overall win of the last year?
No. 2nd behind his team mate Farrar.
3'32

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/ZL-1-11.jpg
Boonen is the top favourite for this race. Prologue specialist, favourite in the sprint finishes and great on the short cobbles.
Plus he seems to be in a good form so close to the Tour de France.
He wins the prologue with 2s to Farrar.

nice first stage, but Boom should have won, wouldn't he?

Well. It`s just a 2km prologue. There everything can happen.
Boom has 82, Boonen 80, Farrar 79. Not sure how the daily form was, but this can be extremely important in time trials. Also the fitness level. Boom and Farrar are already starting to relax, while Boonen is improving for the Tour.
Plus the fact that I play on Extreme, where the opponents get a small stat bonus.

All together I would have like to win but I am also quite happy with this result.

It's a great result for Garmin Smile

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 6
Serre-Chevalier - Grenoble
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-1.jpg
Two long mountains can destroy the peloton once again, but with the long descent it will be hard to get rid of Cancellara and Riblon, who showed a very solid performance so far.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-2.jpg
8 riders in the group of the day. Bonnaire (FDJ), Busche (RadioShack), Vedel Kvist (Quick), De Lis (Euskaltel), Flens (Rabobank), Cornu (Skil), Marzano (Lampre) and Pliuschin (Katusha). None of them is a danger for the overall standing.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-3.jpg
Garmin is pushing a very high pace over the first mountain. So the advance for the group is never really big. Therefore many riders already lose contact on the first climb of the day.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-4.jpg
Also on the 2nd mountain it`s our team doing the work. Kreder and Pate are both still in a good top 20 overall but doing the pace for Fuglsang now.
The group becomes smaller and smaller.
MEanwhile Lisson (Androni) attacked on the flat part in between and is chasing the group solo now.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-5.jpg
With 7 climbing kilometers left Fuglsang attacks and overtakes Bonnaire of the breakaway. The Dane is now following Lisson and might catch him soon.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-6.jpg
With 1km left on teh climb Fuglsang has almost 2 minutes advance. Pauriol and De Greef are attacking out of the peloton. But probably more for the KoM points as the attack is coming quite late.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-7.jpg
Fuglsang had no problems to join Lisson and overtook him immediately. He now wins the mountain sprintwith 30s to Lisson and 1'47 to the favourites. He is on a good way now to finish on the podium. Just going downhill before.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-8.jpg
This just had to happen. Fuglsang totally lonely in the lead is crashing on the dangerous descent. It takes several seconds before he is staying again. The 30s to Lisson are gone and together they continue the descent, but the rhythm is also gone and so the peloton is coming closer again.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Dau-6-9.jpg
With 5km to the finish Fuglsang is caught by a bigger group around all favourites and also Kreder is still there.
This would have been a stage win for sure and probably the podium in the overall.

In the final sprint Boasson Hagen had of course no problem to win the stage ahead of Cancellara. Kreder as 8th shows once again his good sprint skills.
So no improvement for us today. The next stages are hilly, so very hard to change a lot now.
