To those who saw my Strava rides today, yes, I am that out of shape. Only 8 and 15kmh off my best respectively. First proper rides this year so, and I was on a too small borrowed bike so some positives. |

Strydz is giving me some hard time, with his multiple short rides. As I still can't run, I'll probably keep on cycling though, so I expect to be the first in our "club" to reach the 1000 km milestone.
A couple more triple digit rides should help.
.
Yeah the multiple short rides are annoying me but they are mainly my work commute, time has been against me these last few weeks so only had one day a week where I can sneak in a century.

Better and faster ride today despite headwind. Plenty of climbing, felt more comfortable on the bike and capable of being faster on the flat. Aiming at 35km/h averages at year end, so a long way to go for sure. |

I've been playing PCM for quite a few years and love the sport. However, I never got into riding a bike myself except for short trips around town.
I decided to try it out a few weeks ago and purchased this bike:
https://www.wiggle...iple-2013/
Been riding for 2 weeks now and I ABSOLUTELY love it! Love the flat, downhill and uphill and I look forward to my next ride as soon as I get off the bike.
I am a beginner with a capital B and somewhat out of shape but I did 45 km yesterday at an average speed of 28 km/h with some hilly parts - to the extent you can call it hills in . I am quite satisfied with that although I hope I can get above 32 km/h some time |

My day in the hills, hard effort on the easy climbs of the day due to a nasty headwind but still had a blast

Nice ride. I wish I had 500 m hills here too. And you've taken back the Getaway lead.
I was thinking of riding on an outdoor velodrome this afternoon, but I'm not too sure how Strava will handle it. 250 m might be too small, especially at relatively high speeds, for the app.
I've googled for it, but haven't found users who've tried it on a velodrome yet. Any idea how it'll work ?

Seen Uran use it on a veleodrome. Looks okay. Depends though if he is using a Garmin then transferring onto strava, or using GPS on phone.

I must say it looks a bit weird. I'm still to figure where the right angles the iPhone GPS drew are on the track, or how I managed to cycle in the garden of the houses next to the track, but that seems more or less correct.
Apparently my position is registered every 12 or 13 seconds, and I did most laps between 22 (accelerations) and 26 seconds (tempo). |

Wish I could ride. Had the ambition to get the getaway this month.
Just busy with gardening and taking care of my newborn. (Making the garden "baby-proof". Terrible work. Rather sat on my bike. Maybe next month. |

Got a nice surprise today, my new bike arrived early. It weighs a bit more than 7kg which is ok considering the size and the pedals (some old Shimano's, my newer ones are on my broken bike 600km away).
Weather is said to be good tomorrow, can't wait to finally ride again after a few month.

Looks like a nice bike, indeed. A few remarks though :
You seem to lack cap at the end of your handle bars.
A Campy groupeset ? I like that Which one is it ? 11 gears ? Your crankset is not a Campy one though, is it ?
Nice Ksyrium wheels too, my father has them, the Équpe version I believe (the cheapest Ksyrium, IIRC).
Your saddle doesn't look horizontal, that probably requires some fixing.
The frame looks like an aluminium one, am I right ?
Also, it seems all cables go through the frame. It's a common trend lately, I wish I had that when I bought mine. Makes cleaning much easier.
Enjoy it (and join us on strava ). |

Well, that's one hell of a cyclo-cross stage, through that forest |

1. The caps are there, what lacks is a good picture.
2. It's the brand new Sram Force groupset. No Campy, but 11 gears.
3. Those are Ksyrium Elite. Would have liked to get something better, but the options were limited due to the 11 gears and the money i had available.
4. Indeed, although it looks worse than it acutually was. It's fixed now, the screws were too loose when i first postitoned the saddle and it went downwards when i thightend them.
5+6. It's a carbon frame with all cables running through it. Not the nicest one, but the price for the bike was really good and it has exactly the same geometrie as my old bike had so it was an easy choice.
It still get some compansation which i'm planning to spend on a Garmin. Need to gain some form before i can upload some rides to Strava, though.

Good Strava ride from me tonight. Would have been top 5 on the segment I did without ignorant pedestrians, but hey ho. Need to raise seat and fit my bike computer so I know how I'm doing. Also, I suppose having some sort of connection to my pedals would help, with no cleats or cage at the moment? |

Okay, for the MTBers out there:
I'll be getting a new mtb bike!
It's a Fondriest (!) for 27.5 inch wheel size(!!). I'm not a fan of the 29er wheels, but I want something bigger than 26, so 27.5 is perfect! The bike will weigh a staggering 8.2kgs! Crazy light for a mtb! It'll be complete with a Sram XX1 groupset, so that means 1 x 11 gear ratio! It will also come along with a Formula fork.
Here's a pic of the frame:

Well, of course with no cleats or cages you get a poor pedalling, since the only efforts you can apply to the pedals are vertical (and slightly horizontal, but only as much as your shoes and pedal have grip on each other).
With cleats you can do the proper horizontal efforts, as well as pulling on the opposite pedal while pushing on the other one. Having a proper heel elevation while you pull and pushing it down when you push also helps getting a better output.
As for the seat height, I sat too high for years, and always tended to get it higher to gain a little more power. I got more power, but after a few dozens of minutes of pushing big gears, my back would ache. It didn't happen when training at moderate intensities. On the long term (race length) it wasn't worth it. I feel much more comfortable now, being ~1 cm lower.
To figure it out, you should be able to pedal with your heels without your pelvis rolling to one side or the other.
Quite a lot of Watts to find in the proper height. |

I've found that my knees ache when I pedal if its too low, but to eradicate that I have to go to a height which is tough to get on, so I need to find that middle ground. As for the pedals, I have some pedals I can clip into but no way of doing so, so that's on my priority list. |
