You are ruling out 2 2nd places by Kiryienka, you are all doing the same as the commentators, overlooking the guy who will still be there at the end. Sheesh. Kiryienka for the win!

I believe Nicki is stronger than Kiryienka, but let's see.

Actually, Nicki was the latest Dane to win a stage in a Grand Tour when he won in Avila in the 2005 Vuelta (or 2006 I'm not quite sure).
I remember the stage but not the year.. But either way it's a long time ago in the cycling world
I was really hoping for Chris Anker Sørensen and that he would ride a good Giro .. Maybe with a top 10 in GC .. But don't think thats gonna happen .. Not this year.. |

Apparently he isn't ready. He could become a very good climber in the future, but he just seems so weak whenever people starts accelerating. At his age the biggest talents really starts emerging from the bunch, so he can't wait too long to have his breakthrough before people starts questioning what he can actually do. But of course some riders, for instance Simoni (which I think isso or Guido talked about) had his breakthrough very late, so let's see. I'm still hopeful, but it has been a dissapointing Giro for Chris Anker.

It was in 2005 according to wikipedia.org.
Only 20 minutes now! An they are only on the beginning of the first climb wich means that we will get to see almost all the mountain action.
Yeepeee!
Go Nicki GO! |

If Sella does what he did last time I'm gonna be really bored, its not that i don't like Sella it just that the atmosphere of the race is more intense when a big favorite goes for the stage win. I would go with Ricco winning today but Contador coming second in the same time split, but then the next rider Simoni around 30 seconds back... |

From CyclingNews.com's Live ticker:
14:33 CEST
Raffaele tells us that "Missaglia rides very, very near the town he lives, Inzago, between Milan and Bergamo today."
No wonder he is in the break. But Raffaele predicts that "However, today we will see Gilberto Simoni lonely in the rain on the finish line."
Simoni or not, one thing is for sure - there will be rain at the finish line!
Simoni!?

Well Sella isn't in the break so I doubt he can win today

but i think he means he likes it when all the faveroutes are at the front leading the race rather than them just letting riders get away that are 40mins back, and letting them win, its stupid!

I'm sure that Chris Anker will have his breakthrough.. Next year.. It would be great with a good danish climber .. Actually we forgot Rasmussens stagewins in TdF 2006 Haha and in 2007 but .. well

Oh yeah, sorry bout that. But if we keep it non-dopish, Nicki is in fact the latest Dane to win a stage in a Grand Tour

There was a mini interview with all 6 of the British Giro riders in Cycling Weekly. I realise it may nto interest non-Brits but I don't care, it interested me. They all got asked the same questions and it went down like this:
How's your Giro gone so far?
Charly Wegelius - I've had to work a lot but I'm pretty happy with my Giro. We had the pink jersey with Daniele Bennati and he's won a lot, so that always means we're doing things right.
Geraint Thomas - Alright really, but it's pretty hard! The weather, racing and the transfers have all added up to making it a really tough race.
Bradley Wiggins - Pretty good. I came in pretty short of road miles because I've been doing the track but I'm feeling good, so I should be fine reaching Milan, which is my objective.
David Millar - It's been the hardest Grand Tour I've ever done, but I think it's going to do me good for the Tour de France.
Mark Cavendish - I got better and stronger every day and so it's been a great experience. I like the Giro. It's like the Tour de France but everything is more laid-back, so you can actually enjoy it a bit.
Steve Cummings - Pretty good. My form is getting better and better. I don't know why but it's a nice feeling after suffering so much early on.
What was your best moment?
Charly Wegelius - The rest day, but I did a good ride in the opening team time trial even if we didn't win it.
Geraint Thomas - Last Wednesday to Cesena. The stage had 4,000m of climbing and it rained almost all day, but I finished in the front group without really struggling.
Bradley Wiggins - When Mark Cavendish won in Catanzaro. We worked really well as a team. It all came together and that's really satisfying.
David Millar - The team time trial was an amazing day for the team and for me. We worked hard and got our just deserts.
Mark Cavendish - When you win it's always a good day. The stage in Catanzara was special because of the way it unfolded. I got over the climb, the stayed with me and then led me out really well. It was perfect.
Steve Cummings - The day to Peschici when I almost got in the decisive break was good, even though it didn't work out.
What was your worst moment?
Charly Wegelius - On the stage to Peschici. I had to ride almost all day at the front. I was wasted at the end and just dragged into the finish.
Geraint Thomas - The long stage to Peschici at the end of the first week. Fortunately it was cut from 265km to 230km, but I was swinging because of the distance and heat.
Bradley Wiggins - The stage to Cesena after the time trial. I was all over the place and had a bad day.
David Millar - When my chain broke in the finale of stage 5. It was a horrible moment.
Mark Cavendish - The first road stage on the Sunday in Sicily. I was spat out on the first climb.
Steve Cummings - The early days in Sicily. It was always raining and everybody kept falling off because the roads were dirty. The long transfer by boat also did my head in.
What's been the most annoying thing about the Giro?
Charly Wegelius - The bad transfers. They should make the needs of the riders more of a priority.
Geraint Thomas - There are lots of nice girls on the Giro but we've got to concentrate on the race.
Bradley Wiggins - N/A
David Millar - The transfers have made it a stressful race. I'm glad I'm not here to really perform because it's been easy to get stressed out about it.
Mark Cavendish -Some of the dodgy finishes in the rain and not winning when I know I could have.
Steve Cummings - Hotels use to be pretty poor in Italian races but the Giro organisers seem to be trying to stop us complaining about the transfers by giving us nice hotels.
Who are you sharing a room with?
Charly Wegelius - Kjell Carlstrom. He snores a bit so I got some Silence spray from Stefano Zanini to keep him quiet. It works! ()
Geraint Thomas - I shared with Francesco Bellotti but he quit last Wednesday, and so I've been sharing with different people or I've been on my own which is nice.
Bradley Wiggins - Mark Cavendish
David Millar - Christian Vande Velde, aka "the Chicago hard man".
Mark Cavendish - Bard Wiggins. He snores a bit but he's funny and a good guy to share with.
Steve Cummings - So far with Christian Pfannberger. He's a bit of a nutter and talks in German on the internet until midnight.
Which stage are you looking forward to?
Charly Wegelius - The last one to Milan, so it will be all over.
Geraint Thomas - The last one to Milan.
Bradley Wiggins - The final time trial.
David Millar - The Milan time trial. It's mine, I want that one.
Mark Cavendish - The last one, but I don't know when it will be.
Steve Cummings - Stages 17 and 18 because they could be an opportunity for me to get in a break. (Which he has done today)
Which stage are you worried about?
Charly Wegelius - Every mountain stage. I might finish well up but that means I'll have been working hard.
Geraint Thomas - Any of the mountain stages. I just hope to get through them all.
Bradley Wiggins - The last mountain one.
David Millar - The one over the Gavia and Mortirolo. It's right at the end of the race and they're two very tough climbs.
Mark Cavendish - Virtually all of them now.
Steve Cummings - I'm not worried about any stages now. I'm just going to do my best, I can't do any more.
Who do you think is going to win the Giro?
Charly Wegelius - Gilberto Simoni or Alberto Contador. Simoni was very good in the TT and so should be good in the mountains.
Geraint Thomas - It's been wide open for a long time but I think one of the Astana boys will be in pink in Milan.
Bradley Wiggins - Alberto Contador, I think.
David Millar - Alberto Contador. He makes it look easy. I hope he wins because I think he's a good guy.
Mark Cavendish - Alberto Contador.
Steve Cummings - I reckon Alberto Contador. He looks pretty good.
So to sum up, they think the transfers are rubbish. They're not keen on any mountain stages. Millar wants the final time trial, badly. Silence spray works! and Contador will win.

I on the other hand won't be able to see the stage |
