Stage 5
Stage 5 is the only flat stage in this USA Pro Cycling Challenge, so the sprinters will aim for the win in Steamboat Springs.
img849.imageshack.us/img849/6706/16stage5.jpg

Of course, Marcel Kittel aimed for the win here, but had the bad luck of a disastrous daily form (-5). So he had no chance in the sprint, and even got outsprinted by his Dutch team leader...
The battle for the win was between Aitor Galdos (Caja Rural) and the Australian champion Michael Matthews (United Health Care). And it was the Aussie who won the stage, with a great and dominant sprint.

Stage 6
The last mountain stage between Steamboat Springs and Breckenridge, with again a mountain top finish.
img214.imageshack.us/img214/332/19stage6.jpg

Daniel Teklehaimanot from Team Qantas was the last remaining rider in the lead from a 10-man breakaway. The Eritrean rider fought like a lion, but got passed with only 800 metres to go, by who else than Robert Gesink.

Stage 7
The last stage is a 132km hilly criterium in Denver.
img217.imageshack.us/img217/3681/22stage7.jpg

Tom Dumoulin was in the attack today, but got caught with only 3 kilometres remaining. This was the sign for Robert Gesink to launch an attack. It lasted untill the finish again, so Gesink took his 5th stage win! Pozzovivo finished in second place, for the 4th time.

5 stage wins, the GC, points and KOTM-jersey.... This was an unbelievable week. To be honest, the field was pretty weak, this challenging route deserves a better field!

Our team
img818.imageshack.us/img818/7967/5team.jpg

The favourites
*** Damiano Cunego (Lampre), Roman Kreuziger (Astana), Rder Hesjedal (Garmin)
** Michele Scarponi (BMC), Matti Breschel (Rabobank), Chris Horner (Lotto)
* Anthony Geslin (FDJ), Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel), Chris Anker Sorensen (Saxo)

Our goal
Starting with not the best puncheurs, and those that are good are out of form (Sagan): so no goals, we just try to hang on as long as possible.

The race
128km to go
5 leaders in this race, who have got a margin of over 6 minutes to the peloton. Danny Pate (Sky), Cameron Meyer (Qantas), Antonio Santoro (Androni), Paolo Tiralongo (Astana) and Romain Sicard (Euskaltel) are the ones.
img825.imageshack.us/img825/6185/6128km.jpg

14km to go
The 5 leaders have been caught and the last lap has started. Our riders have already lost contact with the leading group, consisiting of 23 riders. With 14km to go, the first attack is by FDJ's Gianni Meersman.
img851.imageshack.us/img851/5797/714km.jpg

11km to go
The attack won't last long, and 3 kilometres after, it's Michele Scarponi with the next one.
img6.imageshack.us/img6/2509/811km.jpg

7km to go
Also Scarponi doesn't have the strength to stay away and gets caught quickly. The next attack is by 2 riders: Matti Breschel (Rabobank) and again a FDJ-rider, this time Anthony Geslin.
img703.imageshack.us/img703/2648/95kmd.jpg

2km to go
It looks like this attack is the right one today. Starting the last climb before the finish, Geslin has created a margin of 9 seconds to Breschel and 32 to the chasing group.
img267.imageshack.us/img267/9119/102kmw.jpg

Finish
What a huge surprise: Anthony Geslin wins the GP Ouest France - Plouay, the biggest win in his career. Gianni Meersman makes the succes for the La Française des Jeux-team even bigger by sprinting past Breschel and taking the 2nd place. Lieuwe Westra is the best from our team, in 31st position.

After all these great results, the riders showed today that they are just human.... One of our weakest races in the 2 years we have been active in cycling. Further, all credits to La Française des Jeux, they had a great race!

Back to the Vuelta, for one of the toughest stages. Stage 11 from Andorra to the summit of the Aramón Cerler is 185 kilometres long and features 5 categorized climbs. First the Port del Canto (1st category, 24.6km at 4.3%, alt. 1730m) after 48 kilometres, and after a long descend follow the Coll de Bretui (8.0km at 5.9%) and the Coll de la Creu de Perves (12.0km at 5.0%), both 2nd category. After that, the Coll de la Espina (2nd category, 8.9km at 4.8%) awaits, before the final climb to the Estación de Esqui Aramón Cerler. The last climb is 13.9 km long, has an average gradient of 5.8% with peaks untill 13%. The summit lies at an altitude of 1920 metres, and the finish awaits after 4234 height metres!
img542.imageshack.us/img542/107/perfil11.jpg
img10.imageshack.us/img10/8110/aramoncerler.jpg

137km to go
Two riders go in the early attack, but the peloton never lets them get away. Nevertheless, Eduard Vorganov (Katusha) and Simon Clarke (Qantas) arrive at the summit of the Port del Canto 30 seconds before the peloton, but they let themself fall back in it in the descend.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/613/1137km.jpg

98km to go
Apparantly, none of the riders are willing to attack today, fearing the height metres. As a result, a big peloton reaches the summit of the Coll de Bretui, with Andy Schleck being the first one.
A group of 29 riders has already been dropped. In it are our 2 riders for the flat stages, Martijn Maaskant and stage-winner Niki Terpstra. It will be a tough day for them to arrive at the finish within the timelimit.
img209.imageshack.us/img209/886/298km.jpg

42km to go
Also in the 3rd climb of the day, nothing happens. But on the 4th climb, the pace increases and being led by Juan José Cobo, a group of 24 riders forms the first group of the day. A second group of 25 riders follows at 1'14, including Brajkovic (GC'2 9), Richie Porte (GC's 10), Benat Intxausti (GC's 11) and Denis Menchov (GC's 16).
img535.imageshack.us/img535/4163/342km.jpg

13km to go
The second group works hard in the descend and just before the foot of the last climb of the day, the first two groups emerge. After this boring stage, the last climb should bring some fireworks.
img42.imageshack.us/img42/4320/413km.jpg

11km to go
And here we go! Alexandre Vinokourov, GC's number 5) is the first to attack and his attack is responded by GC's number 5 Fränk Schleck. Whom of the GC-contenders are capable of, or willing to, following them?
img718.imageshack.us/img718/2387/511km.jpg

9km to go
I don't know what Vino was thinking, because his attack made his legs explode. So with 9km to go, Fränk Schleck is in the lead. Igor Antón (GC's 2) follows at '38, Luis León Sánchez (GC's 7) at '48 and a group with Vino, Cobo (GC's 2), Voeckler (GC's 8), Andy Schleck, Nicholas Roche (GC's 6) and Christop Le Mével (GC's 18) at 1'12.
img825.imageshack.us/img825/724/69km.jpg

6km to go
Some kind of brother-love makes Andy notto go after Fränk, but because Antón is also creating a gap, he increases the pace. 6km before the finish the situation is as following: 1. Fränk, 2. Antón at '32, 3. Andy, Cobo, Vino and Sánchez at '54 and 4. Voeckler & Roche at 1'22.

5km to go
This is the attack Andy has to counter. When his group is closing the gap to Antón, Juan José Cobo attacks. This happens still '47 behind Fränk, so it looks like the older brother is going to win today.

2km to go
Andy has no problems in following Cobo and the 2 of them close the gap to Antón. With 2km to go, still '32 behind Fränk, Andy launches his attack and the 2 Spanish riders can't follow him.

Finish
Fränk Schleck takes his second win of the year, after winning the stage to Superbesse in Le Tour. The clock starts ticking, but he'll probably enter the top 3 in the GC.
img864.imageshack.us/img864/7421/10finish.jpg

2nd place
22 seconds behind the older brother, GC-leader Andy Schleck crosses the finish line.
img534.imageshack.us/img534/9690/112nd.jpg

3rd place
Juan José Cobo wins the sprint for the 3rd place, 42 seconds behind today's winner. This means he looses another 20 seconds to Andy for the GC.
What we were afraid of, happens. A group of 28 riders, including Terpstra & Maaskant finishes outside the time limit and are forced to leave the Vuelta. This is a blow for our team, with some flat stages coming.

Word from the DS
When things continue to go like today, we can be very happy. Andy remains the man to beat here, and I've got a feeling he'll stay in red all the way to Madrid. We feel bad about Terpstra and Maaskant, that finished outside the timelimit...

Back to Spain, with stage 12, a pretty flat stage with the start in Logrono and the finish in Burgos. With only 146 kilometres, the riders have a deserved easy day.

59km to go
After a group of 20 riders failed to get a good margin to the peloton, Julien El Fares tries to get away. He gets caught shortly after the summit of the first climb of the day.
img16.imageshack.us/img16/7918/159kmy.jpg

38km to go
The next ones to try are Leif Hoste (Katusha), Manuel Quinziato (BMC) and Christian Vandevelde (Garmin). The 3 arrive at the summit of the last climb of the day with a margin of 3'58 to the peloton.
img827.imageshack.us/img827/2096/238km.jpg

5km to go
Team Sky starts to do the chase, but suddenly, with less than 20km to go, they stop doing it. Why? No one will ever know....
Christian Vandevelde has attacked out of the leading group and enters the last 5km with a 40-second lead over Hoste and Quinziato.
img813.imageshack.us/img813/8987/35km.jpg

Finish
It's in the pocket for the American, taking his first win this season. Hoste finishes in 2nd at '23, and Boasson Hagen wins the sprint for the 4th place at 1'03.

The 13th stage from Burgos to the Santuario de la Bien Aparecida is a stage with 2 faces. The first half is flat, whereas the 2nd part of the stage is pretty hilly. The last 4.7 kilometres to the sanctuary go uphill with an average gradient of 4.2%, but has peak gradients up to 15%. A stage final for the puncheurs.
img338.imageshack.us/img338/1985/perfil13.jpg
img641.imageshack.us/img641/9704/santuariodelabienaparec.jpg

94km to go
Today, we have a small BOTD, consisting of only 3 riders. Julien El Fares (Cofidis), Simon Gerrans (Qantas) and Mauro Santambrogio (BMC) have attacked 115 kilometres before the finish, and have needed 20 kilometres to get a margin of 1'06 to the peloton.
img3.imageshack.us/img3/2825/194km.jpg

49km to go
But suddenly, the pace drops in the peloton and in the next 19 kilometres, to the summit of the Puerto de los Tornos, the margin increases to 9'54!!
This is the sign for our team to increase the pace a bit, and will arriving at the 2nd summit of the day, the Alto Cruz Usano, the peloton is 7'52 behind the 3 leaders.
Peloton? No, only a small group of 21 riders, because there have been some splits in the peloton. A second group of 32 riders, including Luis León Sánchez (GC 7), Daniel Martin (10), Richie Porte (11) and Joaquím Rodríguez (14) is 1 minute behind the first peloton!
img39.imageshack.us/img39/318/249km.jpg

39km to go
In the next climb, the Alto Fuente de Varas, the hard working from the domestiques of Rabobank, Katusha and Saxo Bank pays off, as the two peloton merge. As a result a group of 33 riders (of course, some riders couldn't follow the pace in the peloton) arrives at the summit 7'36 behind Gerrans and Santambrogio. The 2 have dropped El Fares, and will battle for the win today.
img840.imageshack.us/img840/8536/339km.jpg

10km to go
Of course, the puncheurs can't wait untill the final climb to the Santuario de la Bien Aparecida starts. Philippe Gilbert is the first one to launch his attack, still 6'22 behind the 2 leaders.
img607.imageshack.us/img607/4954/410km.jpg

8km to go
The next one to attack is GC's number 3 Fränk Schleck. With 8km to go, he tries to close the gap to Gilbert (5'50 behind the 2 leaders). Only Vino and Rodríguez are willing to counter.
img820.imageshack.us/img820/9046/58km.jpg

2km to go
Back to the leading duo. Gerrans has cracked his Italian breakaway companian and has created a small margin.
img607.imageshack.us/img607/4720/62km.jpg

Finish
And it's the win for Simon Gerrans from the new Qantas team. It's his 3rd win of the season, besides a stage win in the Tour de Romandie and the GC of the Bayern Rundfahrt. Santambrogio finishes in 2nd at '42. The waiting starts for the GC-contenders.
img441.imageshack.us/img441/6512/7finish.jpg

3km to go
Fränk Schleck, Vinokourov and Rodríguez have closed the gap to Gilbert 3km before the finish. This is the sign for Gilbert to attack again. The 4 have a margin of 22 seconds to a group with Igor Antón and Andy Schleck. At this moment, Antón attacks, and Andy can easily follow him.
img43.imageshack.us/img43/5439/83km.jpg

1km to go
The 2 easily close the gap to Fränk, Vino and Rodríguez. Also Cobo and Voeckler have joined this group. Under the flamme rouge, Andy Schleck launches his attack.
img844.imageshack.us/img844/3887/91km.jpg

Finish
Gilbert finishes in 3rd, 4'07 behind Gerrans. Andy Schleck has closed the gap to him and finishes in 4th. A few seconds later, the group with Fränk, Cobo, Antón, Purito, Vino and Voeckler finishes the stage, ans surprise, surprise.... no time gaps...

Word from the DS
So another breakaway win. We won't make a deal of the not given time gaps, and focus completely on tomorrow's stage, with the finish at the Lagos de Covadonga.

I think it's hilarious how both yourself and Cunego with his Liquigas story are at the same point in the season, with the two of you having riders at 1st and 12th on the GC. Grin

Not the same, only 3 stages between us Smile I can look at his reports for the difficult parts in the stages, hopefully it helps.

Stage 14 is one of the hardest stages this Vuelta. After the start in Nestlé and 4 2nd category climbs, the stage will finish at the Lagos de Covadonga, a 13.8 kilometre climb with an average gradient of 7.1% with peaks up to 16%.
img823.imageshack.us/img823/7639/perfil14.jpg
img854.imageshack.us/img854/9613/lagosdecovadonga.jpg

100km to go
The race is pretty boring, as the peloton stays together during the first 3 climbs, and all the climbs, just before the summit, Luis Ángel Maté (Cofidis) attacks to collect as many KOTM-points as possible.
img252.imageshack.us/img252/9840/1100km.jpg

35km to go
When the peloton has finished the 3 climbs and it's descends, it stays calm in it. On the flat, José Ángel Gómez Marchante (Europcar) attacks. At the summit of the penultimate climb of the day, the Alto de Ortiguero, he has a margin of 3'05 to the peloton.
img12.imageshack.us/img12/3141/235km.jpg

13km to go
The peloton arrives at the foor of the Covadonga 2'08 behind Gómez Marchante. Andy Schleck is in a good position, with Cobo, Antón and Fränk in his wheel.
img857.imageshack.us/img857/3559/313km.jpg

9km to go
The Spanish Europcar-riders gets caught by the first chasing group with 9km to go. When he falls back in the group, he blocks Andy Schleck who has to fight to the front again. And can someone tell me why that jury-car is so close in front of the riders??? Such a shame....
img20.imageshack.us/img20/6554/49km.jpg

7km to go
The ascend is halfway done, when the first attack occurs. It's Igor Antón, the winner of the Giro d'Italia, and Andy tries to counter.
img543.imageshack.us/img543/9740/57km.jpg

5km to go
Unfortunately, a bad daily form (-2) is making him unable to follow Antón. Under the banner of the last 5km, Antón has a 19 second lead to a group with Andy, Cobo and Fränk. Vinokourov follows at '31.
img860.imageshack.us/img860/5573/65kmi.jpg

4km to go
The gap between Antón and his 3 chasers stays the same in the next kilometre. Fränk Schleck feels that his 3rd place in the GC is in danger, and attacks. Of course, his younger brother counters.
img834.imageshack.us/img834/5775/74km.jpg

3km to go
But Fränk hasn't got the legs to close the gap to Antón and the pace drops. At this time, Juan José Cobo is flying over the 2 Luxembourg brothers. And, when Andy tries to counter, he is blocked by Fränk. Accidentaly, or on purpose???
img812.imageshack.us/img812/5439/83km.jpg

1km to go
Andy has to yell a few times at his big brother (something to do with christmas and not getting presents...) Fränk makes some space. Immediately, Andy starts to close the gap to the 2 Spanish riders, and surprise surprise, Fränk starts to wheelsuck (as I can't understand their language, Fränk could have promised him a car for X-mas to bring him back to the Spanish riders....).
Igor Antón has started the last, pretty flat, kilometre. Cobo follows at '13 and the 2 brothers at '22.
img703.imageshack.us/img703/3887/91km.jpg

Finish
It's the 12th win this season for Antón and the first in this Vuelta. Cobo follows at '11, with Andy in 3rd in the same time. Fränk follows at '22, and Vino and Le Mével at '45.

Word from the DS
We had hoped that Andy had a bigger margin in the GC to his opponents after this stage, but due to some circumstances (bad daily form and blocking brothers), it's 4 seconds smaller... Maybe tomorrow, at the Puerto Pajares!

Before the second rest day, the riders face another terrible mountain stage in Asturias. 2 climbs from the 3rd category, 2 1st gategory climbs, and a finish at the Puerto de Pajares, at an altitude of 4.6%.
img827.imageshack.us/img827/8144/perfil15p.jpg
img542.imageshack.us/img542/8244/pajares.jpg

128km to go
The start of the race is pretty hectic, as many riders try to get in a breakaway. At one point, a breakaway of 20 riders is formed, but the domestiques of Monster Energy, Radio Shack and Euskaltel bring everybody back.
Than the first climb of the day starts, the Alto de la Faya de los Lobos (7.5km at 4.8%). The pack stays together, untill the last few hundreds of ascending metres. Simon Gerrans and Luis Ángel Maté attack to collect the KOTM-points, and are caugt again in the descend.
img824.imageshack.us/img824/4812/1128km.jpg

111km to go
Gerrans also collects the maximum amount of points at the next KOTM-sprint, of the Alto de la Colladona (5.9km at 9.2%). Already a group of 25 riders has lost contact with the peloton, cycling 5 minutes behind it.
img814.imageshack.us/img814/2819/2111km.jpg

85km to go
The third climb of the day is the Alto de Santa Emiliano. With 5.3km at 4.9% it's a relatively easy climb, but the fireworks start here. Due to the extremely high pace set by the domestiques of Juan José Cobo (Fabio Duarte & Arkaitz Durán), an elite group is formed consisiting of, besides the 3 Nespresso-riders, Andy Schleck, Igor Antón (Euskaltel), Fränk Schleck & Jens Voigt (Radio Shack), José Joaquín Rojas (Garmin) and Alexandre Vinokourov & Yevgeniy Nepomnyachshiy (Astana).
At 23 seconds follows a group with Kadri & Bouet (AG2R), Vandevelde (Garmin) and Vanendert, De Gendt & De Greef. A big group including the numbers 6 and further in the GC follows at 2'28. What has happened here? Why are riders as Roche (6), Voeckler (7), Sánchez (8), Brajkovic (9), Porte (10) and Le Mével (11) so far behind??
img252.imageshack.us/img252/9505/385km.jpg

53km to go
In the next climb, the Alto de Colladiella (8.4km at 7.4%), the leading group becomes even smaller. Only the top 5, including Arkaitz Durán, remain in the front of the race. Vanendert follows at 1'30 and the group of beaten GC-contenders is already 5'30 behind!
img59.imageshack.us/img59/8398/453km.jpg

26km to go
Durán does the latter of the work in the flat part towards the foot of the Puerto de Pajares. The other work a bit, but mostly save energy. As a result, the chasing group of beaten riders has decreased the margin with 2 minutes.
None of the riders, except Cobo are interested in the bonus seconds, as they believe they can use the saved energy in the following climb. Durán is in last wheel like a dead bird.
img826.imageshack.us/img826/6597/526km.jpg

10km to go
The last climb has started and Durán is dropped immediately. Andy Schleck has taken the lead of the group and is climbing in his own pace.
Thomas Voeckler (7) and Janez Brajkovic (9) follow at 2'22, a group with Luis León Sánchez (8) and Richie Porte (10) at 4'42 and a group with Nicholas Roche (6) and Jelle Vanendert, who is climbing as a 75-year-old lady because he forgot to eat, at 4'42.
img850.imageshack.us/img850/5587/610km.jpg

8km to go
The pace of the leading group remains relatively low, untill 8km before the finish. Igor Antón is the first to attack, and Fränk Schleck tries to counter. Andy Schleck doesn't counter but drastically increases his pace.
img845.imageshack.us/img845/8936/78km.jpg

5km to go
Antón creates a maximum gap of 35 seconds, and Fränk hasn't got the energy to continue his counter. But than Andy has finished his warm-up and starts to close the gap to Antón.
At this point, Voeckler is in 6th place at 3'41 and the group Sánchez, Brajkovic and Porte at 5'04.
img846.imageshack.us/img846/8848/85km.jpg

3km to go
Andy closes the gap to Antón and immediately takes over the lead. Due to his high pace, first Vinokourov gets cracked. Than, with about 3km to go, Fränk is the next one to crack and already 20 seconds behind. Who's next?
img846.imageshack.us/img846/8906/93km.jpg

1km to go
Juan José Cobo is the next one to crack. Shortly before the flamme rouge, he has to let Andy and Antón go. The battle for the stage win is between 2 riders, of whom Antón surely doesn't look the freshest.
img33.imageshack.us/img33/5286/101km.jpg

Finish
Andy Schleck has got some energy left in the last kilometre of this stage and wins the sprint easily, already his 3rd stage win in this Vuelta. Antón finishes in 2nd at '23, Cobo in 3rd at '39, Fränk Schleck in 4th at 1'07, Vinokourov in 5th at 1'50, Voeckler in 6th at 5'41 and the rest looses more than 8 minutes in this epic stage!
The jury decided that all riders, even those who finished more than an hour after the winner, can start in the next stage.

Word from the DS
OMG, what an epic stage this was.... I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that elite group in front that early in the stage. The gaps were so huge today, unbelievable.
I must say that Andy did an amazing job today. He stayed calm when Antón attacked, had it all under control and even increased his GC-lead.
The rest of the team arrived at the finish completely wasted, they will need the rest day to regain their energy!

Another small Belgian classic, with a short steep cobbled hill in it a few times. The GP Jef Scherens has the same route as the Druivenkoers Overijse (in the game).

Last year, we won this race, and Niki Terpstra was the one to do it.

Our team
img542.imageshack.us/img542/5773/5ploegz.jpg

The favourites
*** Martijn Maaskant, Niki Terpstra, Tom Veelers (M&M's)
** Gianni Meersman (FDJ), S. Scheirlinckx (Lotto), J. Keukeleire
* Jetse Bol (Rabo CT), Coen Vermeltfoort, K. Hulsmans (Cofidis)

The goal
The win, of course!

The race
The first part of the race is one full of attacks and breakaways that get caught again. From our team, especially Sep Vanmarcke & Coen Vermeltfoort try to be in a breakaway, but the domestiques of M&M's and Lotto pull everybody back.
The next one to try is Joost Posthuma, who recently won the Druivenkoers Overijse. Together with L. Smit (Rabobank), G. Kaupas (Differdange), J. Tschopp (BMC), R. McLaughlin (An Post), J. Corent (Donckers) and I. De Poortere (Donckers), he gets permission from the peloton and the 7 create a maximum margin of 5'30.
At the 2nd ascend of the steep cobbled climb, Posthuma drops the others and starts another solo ride that has to last 38 kilometres. The peloton follows at 4'53, so a win is almost certain.
img801.imageshack.us/img801/7489/638km.jpg

Posthuma has enough energy left to make his solo last untill the finish and takes the 2nd win in a few weeks.
Behind him is a real Monster-demonstration. 5 of our riders create a gap to the peloton at the first climb and it last untill the finish. Th edemonstration of power is complete with a 1-2-3-4-5 (and yes, it's on extreme!)

The same day as the GP Jef Scherens, we also take part in the Giro della Romagna. Why? To stay a bit in shape for the 2 Canadian World Tour races.
The route in the game is different from that irl, as this one is pretty flat with some short climbs (think Paris-Tours).
img851.imageshack.us/img851/9051/4route.jpg

Last year, the race was won by Danilo Napolitano from the Acqua et Sapone team in a mass sprint.

Our team
img210.imageshack.us/img210/7967/5team.jpg

Our goal
To sprint in an Italian race against Italian sprinters..... Let's say top 5.

The race
A group of 10 riders forms the BOTD, gets a maximum margin of 6'30 and of course gets caught with less than 10km to go.
We try to set up a train with Rosseler-Sagan-Kittel, but we do a bad job. First, it gets derailed when th elast members of the BOTD get caught and they block some members of the peloton. Then we can't make it to the front again, because of the many corners in the last few kilometres. And most important, Rosseler and especially Sagan aren't good enough today. So Kittel has to settle with the 8th place.
The first 7 places go to Italian sprinters, with Marco Frapporti (Colnago) being the fastest, beating Manuel Belletti (Team Type 1) and Simone Ponzi (Liquigas).

Word from the DS
We really suck in sprinting, but have an excuse with low fitness (Sagan 78, Kittel 85) and daily form (Sagan -1, Kittel 0). Maybe next year, we do better in it Cool

Back to the Vuelta, with a flat tage between León and Valladolid. 160 kilometres and can it be the 2nd mass sprint?
img577.imageshack.us/img577/8099/perfil16y.jpg
img820.imageshack.us/img820/8092/valladolidc.jpg

100km to go
In the beautiful Spanish countryside, 11 riders form the BOTD. The most known names are Martijn Keizer (Vacansoleil), Mauro Pinotti (BMC), Samuel Dumoulin (Cofidis) and LS Haedo (Saxo). They will create a maximum margin of 5'40, but the teams of the sprinters won't let them go far away.
img38.imageshack.us/img38/9840/1100km.jpg

10km to go
Martijn Keizer is the last to get caught, already within the last 10 kilometres. Everybody is preparing for a mass sprint, and Theo Bos has managed to get the wheel of Edvald Boasson Hagen.
img6.imageshack.us/img6/7962/210km.jpg

6km to go
But with 6km to go, a crash happens in the first part of the peloton. Boasson Hagen was the first one to hit the tarmac and luckily all of our riders were able to avoid him. Antón and Cobo were extremely lucky, nearly missing many crashed riders.
img801.imageshack.us/img801/1703/36km.jpg

4km to go
The pace up front drops, so we decide to form a train quickly. Th efirst group consists of 35 riders.
img593.imageshack.us/img593/824/44km.jpg

1km to go
Greg Henderson and Thomas Voeckler try to make it a long sprint and thereby surprising our train. Because of it, we fall behind.
img703.imageshack.us/img703/2002/51km.jpg

Finish
It's a drag race to the finish on a wide, wide road. The road ascends a bit, so the pure sprinters start to stall a bit. Heinrich Haussler takes the win for the Rabobank team, followe by Henderson, Cavendish and, surprisingly, Andy Schleck. What a strange world we live in, Andy almost beating Cav in a mass sprint....
Almost all riders of the top 15 are present in the first group, only Nicholas Roche (7), Luis León Sánchez (11) and Philippe Gilbert (15) loose 1'50 today. 4 riders have to abandon the race with an injury, namely Steve Houanard, Ruben Pérez, Dimitriy Muravyev and Santo Anza.
