Garmin - End of 3rd Season - Continue in PCM11
Batista15
I think Top 10 with Martin is a good result. Nibali only 11 seconds behind Scarponi...bad luck! Cavendish was really strong but I hope Farrar can beat him in France..... All in all a great Giro report Wink

roturn
Thanks. Farrar won`t ride the Tour this year. He will concentrate on several classics like Vattenfall Cyclassics or Paris-Tours.

Haussler will be there with Hunter and Vansummeren as lead-out.

Ah ok good to know that. Haussler could be able to get some podiums maybe

roturn
Especially as I will play with Emmea`s version with two cobbled stages. So the duo Haussler, Vansummeren might be very strong there.
Last year Farrar, Haussler and Boonen fought for the points ranking, so I hope to do it again, now with him in my team.

Summary of May

Results

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-Result.jpg

No overall win for us but good results in all races, we participated. So we can be quite pleased with our performances.
Stage wins with Felline and Boom in the Giro and Hunter in Bayern plus some podiums in all three races.

Continental Ranking

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-CTR.jpg

Since the Tour of Mediterraneen Sicard is leading the Continental Ranking but after two race wins in May Viviani is coming closer.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-CTT.jpg

Europcar is leading the team ranking quite dominant ahead of Saxobank and NetApp. With Voeckler, Charteau and Sicard they have definitely chances to win it.

Pro Tour Ranking

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-PTR.jpg

Tony Martin is still leading the ranking but Cancellara with just 1 point and Scarponi after his Giro overall win are coming closer. Unfortunately no Garmin rider in the top 10, but Haussler is coming directly after his overview.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-PTT.jpg

Astana is dominating this one here. Contador, F.Schleck, Vinokourov, Knees and many more showed a solid performance so far and they are definitely the top favourite for the win here. Garmin as 9th has still some potential I think.

CQ-Ranking

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-CQR.jpg

In the CQ-Ranking it`s Scarponi on the first followed by Martin and Boasson Hagen.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-CQT.jpg

Astana is also dominating this ranking. Garmin is a bit better here due to the good results in the Continental races.

Awards

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/05%20May/Mai-Awards.jpg

Cavendish is for sure not undeserved the rider of the month with 4 stage wins in the Giro and several podiums winning the points jersey. But most experts expected Scarponi this time as it was more surprising that he wins the Giro d`Italia.
Youth Award goes to Skil`s Mitchell, who won the first mountain stage in the Giro out of a break.

Race schedule in June

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Juni-Schedule.jpg
Next to the Tour de France preparation races Tour de Suisse and Criterium Dauphinee we will participate in Luxembourg, Zeeland and in the Ster Elektrotoer with Boom leading the squad in all 3 races.
Our overall chances for the Tour de France, Luis Leon Sanchez and Jakob Fuglsang will have separated preparations. While the Dane is riding the Dauphinee, Sanchez goes for the Tour de Suisse. Both will have a good squad around them to finish well there.
Of course there are also lots of National Events in the end of the Months, where we hope to get some nice results and also some wins.

Transfer News

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/contador.jpg

Alberto Contador was one of the biggest names in cycling with an expiring contract. Many teams were looking forward to the transfer season to make the first offers. But Contador stopped them by resigning for another year with Astana. Quite logical step by him as they are the best team at the moment.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/brajkovic.jpg

Also Brajkovic resigned with RadioShack for 2 more years until 2014. With the older riders starting to struggle in the mountains he will be their best chance in GT`s. The Giro wasn`t his best, but he already showed his potential several times.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/Sonstiges/vandenbroeck.jpg

Jurgen Van Den Broeck therefore will leave Omega Pharma Lotto. He is a sure top5 contender in all GT`s, but after missing most of the 2011 season with an injury and no good results in 2012 so far he probably hopes for an improvement due to a change. He is definitely an interesting rider for every team. We might see him later in the Tour de France this year.

roturn
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-logo.jpg

The Tour de Luxembourg is a quite difficult 5 day stage race with many hills. Many riders use it generally as an early test for the Tour de France.
It`s first held in 1935 with Mathias Clemens as winner. He has also the record with 5 wins.

In 2011 Zabriskie was our leader as Boom had no form. He did a great job reaching the 8th in the overall. Unfortunately there was a successful break on the 2nd stage without Garmin riders. So there are some top 10 riders, which haven`t been expected before.

Garmin squad in 2012
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-Team.jpg
Different to last year Boom has still a good form after the Giro d`Italia. So he will be our leader and also top favourite for the overall win. With Maaskant we have another option on a good standing and Farrar will try to get a sprint win.

Favourites

*** Boom
** Bakelants. Van Avermaet
* Maaskant, Zabriskie, Wegmann

The startlist is weaker than last year. No Frank Schleck as big favourite or Chavanel as other big name. Next to a strong Garmin squad especially Omega Pharma Lotto wants to reach a lot here. With Bakelants, Van Avermaet and Vanendert they have 3 potential winners but also the other riders are really good. Also nice to meet Zabriskie again, who leads his new Verandas Willems squad. He might be one of the biggest contenders for Boom if he is in a good shape.

Therefore there are plenty of good sprinters here. Next to Farrar there are great sprinters like Bos, Petacchi, Henderson, Sutton, Swift, Wyss, Traksel, Keukeleire, Mondory and Dehaes. So especially the final stage will be very interesting.

cunego59
Nice Giro, a Top 10 is a good result. Good luck in Luxembourgh and the Tour!

roturn
Thanks Cunego69. The Tour will be interesting I think. Sanchez is my best stage racer and together with Fuglsang he could do something well. Maybe my first top 10 Tour result in this story.

Tombola
Already looking forward to the TdF but it's also nice to see who will win the several National jerseys! You did very well in the Giro, a shame that Martin is not such a good timetrialist. I tryed it with L.L. Sanchez (Rabobank) but he lacks in the mountains so 5th was the best I could do.

Fuglsang for the white yersey in TdF?

I think he was born in '85, so he'll be 26/27 around the Tour, meaning he's too old. Pfft

roturn
Thanks.

But he is 27 in my save, so no chance Wink
Best chances might have Seeldreyers (25) or Van Garderen (23) IF the take part of course. But both of them missed the Giro, so probably yes. Although I am not sure if Seeldreyer`s 25 are still fine.
All other big climbers with stats of 78+ are >25.

Seeldraeyers was born 86 so he was already 25 @1/1 so he's not competing in the white jersey classification

Also Martin is at his limits, at least in the important stats for him.

Next first two stages of Luxembourg

Skoda-Tour de Luxembourg - Stage 1
Luxembourg - Luxembourg
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-1-1.jpg
A very short prologue. The last 400m are quite steep, so the puncheurs might have good chances here, too.
Boom of course the big favourite here as he is one of the best prologue riders in professional cycling.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-1-2.jpg
Also Farrar is known as great prologue rider. He proves it with the new best time ahead of his team mate Maaskant.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-1-3.jpg
Zabriskie is also a timetrial specialist with some puncheur qualities. He lost lots of his former skills but he is still on a good level. 8s behind Farrar he takes the 2nd.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-1-4.jpg
Bakelants isn`t a good time trialist but for sure a rider to watch in the hilly stages. Today he will lose more than half a minute.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-1-5.jpg
Boom in the World`s jersey beats all previous times and takes the stage win by 9s to Farrar and 17s to Zabriskie. Great start for us.

Not just him but the whole team did a perfect job today.

Skoda-Tour de Luxembourg - Stage 2
Luxembourg - Mondorf
i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-2-1.jpg
The second stage is already much hillier. Last year a group finished successfully and Rabon won the race this way. This year we will take more care.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-2-2.jpg
10 riders in a very strong group. Viviani (Ceramica), Pichot (Europcar), L.Haedo (Saxobank), Keukeleire (Cofidis), Poels (Verandas), Roulston (Omega), Ockeloen (Rabobank CT), Nilsson (Differdange), Veelers (Skil) and Swift (Carmiooro).
So a lot of good sprinters in this group.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-2-3.jpg
Immediately Duggan goes to the front and holds the gap under 3 minutes.
Still 100km to go, so not really dangerous yet.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-2-4.jpg
With 45km to go and still 3min Kennaugh and Ghyllebert with an attack out of the peloton.
Also Hunter is doing pace now together with Duggan and FDJ.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-2-5.jpg
20km and 2'20. Vanendert attacks and several leaders like Roy, Sörensen or Traksel follow him.
Maaskant and Vandevelde are also supporting now to catch the group, that had a big boost in the final.

i1101.photobucket.com/albums/g434/Roturn1988/06%20June/Lux-2-6.jpg
But even with Boom doing some work on the last 10km the group had sucess again. This stage is really made for a breakaway.
This time it`s Viviani being the strongest. He already proved in May that he is in a good shape.
Farrar wins the sprint 1min later. Now it will be hard to get this minute back on the next 3 stages. But we won`t give up.
