Dan Martin wins in Poland
Great ride by him, with a big attack on the final climb which no-one could follow. He also leads the overall now
Yeh, nicely set up by Stetina then he attacked and the camera followed him for a bit so you had no idea if there was a response, and there wasnt, because nobody could
He's in with a good chance of taking the GC at the end of the race now surely, I believe that was the toughest stage

Great ride by Martin. Really pleased for him, well timed attack. Yeah...

I think Szmyd could attack - he was looking strong. I'm dissapointed, because now it looks he will finish in 4th position.
Look at Ulissi. After good start of the season by Sagan, now Ulissi showed strong performance. That guy won junior WC twice, and when it was second time Sagan was fourth. Second was Ratto - I think, but I don't remember who was third. Maybe Viviani. |

It wouldn't matter where he'd time the attack, he was the strongest.
It would only have mattered if he was dumb enough to attack on the flat parts of the climb ofcourse
But I think most DS' would inform their rider the steeper sections start at 4,5km to go. And the steepest part as 3km to go.
As long as you know that and you are the strongest, there is nothing like well timed
Any attack would be will timed as long as you are the best |

The great Bauke Mollema did a nice destraction by letting Martin win.
Tomorrow he'll use the power of being underrated to quickly break away and win by a large margin ofcourse |

I'm still amazed he managed to be 4th in the mountains at the Brixia Tour, to be honest.

There's the youth olympic games in a few weeks in Singapore.
Unique concept
3 guys
1 does TT
1 does BMX
1 does MTB
all 3 do Road.
The winner is a country and so the winner is the best overall cycling nation.

You were close
Too bad the winning margin wasn't enough to take the overall lead

He did win though
Anyway, Germany for sure out of the top 10 of the World Tour ranking now. Both the Netherlands (Mollema) and Slovenia (thanks to Bole) will pass them. Germany will be 12th. Netherlands 10th and Slovenie 11th.
Unless Bozic/Bole become 1-2 tomorrow and Bole wins overall, than Slovenia goes with 9 man to the worlds |

That system sucks balls though... The old UCI system reflected Nations' strengths much better I found. But well, UCI + logic = 3, isn't it ?
I guess it's useless to ask if UCI have any plans to change that system soon ? |

The Danish federation has worked on a new system (pretty much equal to the old one) which last year was said to be likely to take over from the current one.
Haven't heard about it since. |

According to CQ ranking, with the old system, we'd get something like this :
Rank - former rank - country code - country name - continent - riders - points
1. (1) [Esp] Spain Europe Riders 12898
2. (2) [Ita] Italy Europe Riders 10352
3. (5) [Bel] Belgium Europe Riders 7736
4. (4) [Aus] Australia Oceania Riders 7335
5. (3) [Ger] Germany Europe Riders 5913
6. (9) [Usa] United States America Riders 5795
7. (6) [Fra] France Europe Riders 5730
8. (7) [Ned] Netherlands Europe Riders 5324
9. (10) [Gbr] Great Britain Europe Riders 4096
10. (8) [Rus] Russia Europe Riders 3929
11. (12) [Sui] Switzerland Europe Riders 3846
12. (14) [Slo] Slovenia Europe Riders 3807
13. (11) [Den] Denmark Europe Riders 3454
14. (19) [Kaz] Kazakhstan Asia Riders 3225
15. (13) [Nor] Norway Europe Riders 2893
16. (18) [Por] Portugal Europe Riders 2333
17. (15) [Lux] Luxembourg Europe Riders 2310
18. (21) [Pol] Poland Europe Riders 2303
19. (17) [Col] Colombia America Riders 2277
20. (24) [Irl] Ireland Europe Riders 1891
21. (22) [Ukr] Ukraine Europe Riders 1850
22. (26) [Can] Canada America Riders 1782
23. (23) [Cze] Czech Republic Europe Riders 1659
24. (16) [Swe] Sweden Europe Riders 1608
25. (20) [Blr] Belarus Europe Riders 1599
26. (27) [Nzl] New Zealand Oceania Riders 1487
27. (31) [Iri] Iran Asia Riders 1465
28. (25) [Aut] Austria Europe Riders 1344
29. (29) [Svk] Slovakia Europe Riders 1131
30. (28) [Est] Estonia Europe Riders 1095
...
It looks much more realistic, IMO... |

Yup Aqua, on the CQ ranking both France and Netherlands wouldn't have a problem
And a country like the GC, which is performing well (Cavendish ofcourse), would not have a problem either. But in the World Tour ranking, they are fucked.
Also, notice that they only use 1 january till 15 august. Instead of 15 august last year to 15 august this year.
So bad, they are simply not counting the Vuelta and Lombardia...

I love this discussion, we have once per year.
Hey, according to the UCI August 15th is the end of the season.
Stupid system... but UCI...
