Also L'equipe reports that Lance turned upto the hotel yesterday 30 minutes before Contador. - Thats big shocking news.
We should start a new thread on that subject..
(Btw. intresting to know how many pages we had spammed already If TdF would have been in one thread..)

im am so freakin tired of the big crybaby thor hushovd! he's constantly WHINING on norwegian television and everything is so unfair and his the best cyclist in the world, but today the world was against him so he couldnt win. the stars wasnt lined up like that or some other BULLSHIT. from my point of view he should be kicked out of cycling for making everyone else think cyclist are pure whiners! and really.. what is the green jersey if the winner cant beat the other sprinters? thor is CLEARLY not the best sprinter. its just that the course is made of chickens and pussies! norwegian television will be unbarable if he wins another green |

This whole thread is about Mark Cavendish? Really? Nobody thinks that the Hincapie/Garmin storyline is better? No wait. This is an English forum. I get that. I"m no Cav hater...in fact I'm in awe of his talent.. But his aggrogance and trash talking makes it hard for me to feel sorry for him.
Hincapie however...I mean come on...the guy is cycling royalty and is one of the Tour's all-time great rider's. What Garmin did was petty and childish. They get what ever they deserve.
I give Vaughters/Garmin alot of props for putting out a clean team...and Vandevelde's TDF in 08 was inspiring. But..Hincapie is the most well liked cyclist in USA and 2nd most well-known after Lance. Any goodwill gained has probably been lost to most USA fans by professional jealousness. sad...I was a Garmin fan...but despite White's explanations..I am jumping ship. |

But that wasn't contraversial.
The cavendish thing was all due to a poor decision by Commissaires. The hincapie thing, well thats just racing, pretty poor tactics but still, it's racing.

Maybe not in Europe...but it is here.
I agree that the Cavendish decision was poor. It pretty much eliminates the race for green...which is sad. Hincapie in yellow to start the Alps? Golden.
Methinks that the USA team rivalry will end up being a bigger story than Cavendish/Thor. It's pretty obvious who the better sprinter has been. |

So is the problem for you just with Garmin. Not Astana who did the pace setting most of the day to limit the breakaway getting too far ahead?

Astana Had a plan. It was NOT to prevent George for getting yellow.
Per Lance's Tweets:
"St14 done. Sounds like there's quite a bit of confusion over this one... Noone, and I mean noone, wanted George in yellow more than me."
"Our team rode a moderate tempo to put him in the jersey by at least 2 mins. Ag2r said they would not defend then they started to ride."... Read More
"Until 10km to go he was solidly in yellow until GARMIN put on the gas and made sure it didn't happen."
"And I reiterate. @ghincapie deserves to be yellow tonight. He deserves more than that. Look to who pulled the last 50k to see who to blame.."
If you watched the race on TV live (at least on Versus...which you most likely don't get in Europe) it was pretty obvious that Garmin was pushing pace at around 10k. Why? Farrar isn't in competition for green. Ivanov was in the showers. It was professional jealousy between 2 American teams. Stupid. Same thing the French always do.
Admittedly...it is racing. But as an American cycling fan...it was pretty bruta;l to see Garmin and Hincapies mates do waht they did. |

Hincapie was just hot after what had happened...and got his facts wrong. Watch the replay on Versus. Astana sent 2 guys to the front ...and the breakaway lead GREW. Ag2R started chasing, and you can't blame them for that. It is pretty unaminous in the peleton what happened.
It's cool. I'm not a Lance fan actually. But why would Lance sabotage his best friend in the peleton? It was a Garmin/Columbia stupid thing. |

Well, we had more drama on this stage than we had in the entire Tour.
1. Hushovd vs. Cavendish
Very controversial decision which may have killed all the excitement in the Points Classification
2. Garmin vs. Columbia
An American team killing the chances of a yellow team to a fellow American. Doesn't bode well with American nationalism and pride. |

I sorta agree with you actually.
I don't think Astana did ride to reel in the escapees. AG2R did most of that, with Garmin saying "Oh, 10km to go, we can stop him taking jersey, RIDE!"

Phil Ligget saying on Versus that Astana rode a little hard.
For whatever that is worth. |

this must be the only sport where it's controversial to race to win. in any other sport if a team played less then 100% to ensure a certain result it would be considered cheating. here garmin have done nothing wrong and yet they're being accused of poor sportsmanship. it's a race for gods sake. if hincapie wanted to be in yellow he should have rode harder at the finish. he's not in yellow cause he didn't ride hard enough.
all this "hincapie should have been allowed to take yellow" is pathetic. i know most of the riders seem to have forgotten but it's supposed to be a race!!!
todays whole stage was just a joke and the whole tour so far has been an embarrassment. i'm embarrassed to call myself a cyclist if this is the best we can expect from the best in the world! |

Before the tour Thor was more sympathetic then Mark who was a little cocky youngster.
But now Thor has changed that. |
