Stage 4/5
More hills in Andalucia but not as much as the previous stages, yet again Claeys, Sioutsou and Ignatiev are our leaders here but today we want to get active since it doesnt seem like Claeys and Sioutsou have the abilities to keep up with the likes of Valverde, Mancebo and Castano. And so we send Benatti in a break but apparently he is not allowed to be up front, then panic strikes for a moment when a break is formed without a Nippo guy but then Mikhail Ignatiev breaks away in a desperate attempt to have a Nippo up front and surprisingly they let the strong Russian go and in no time Ignatiev closes a 3 minute gap and joins the leaders! Up front Ignatiev seems to be the strongest but there is some strong competition with riders such as Jufre, Astarloza, Martens and Steegmans. But on top of the biggest climb of the day only Astarloza can keep up with Ignatiev and it seems that the break, or whats left over, will make it
Left: The breaks starts to climb, Right: Only Astarloza can keep up with Ignatiev
Astarloza and Ignatiev are of course the strongest but 4 others are right behind them, Ignatiev knows that he can finish Astarloza in a sprint but then all of a sudden Ignatiev looks back and sees that Astarloza is way back, Ignatiev now puts the pedal to the metal and secures a nice solo win as Astarloza cracks...
Left: Ignatiev's pace is too high for Astarloza, Right: Nice solo win by Ignatiev!

Stage 5/5
The final stage, we wanted a mass sprint for Daniele but that didnt happen, it was a chance for the weaker ones to shine during this stage. Grabsch, Figueras and Martens attacked early on and weren't caught. Martens had to pay for his long escape of yesterday and had to let go with 3.5 kms to go, and then Grabsch, who was the weakest climber actually surprised Figueras with an attack 2 kms from the finish. Grabsch never looked back and took a nice win. Ignatiev attacked on the hill with a few others but didnt win anytime but he did end 5th.
Left: The 3 musketeers, Right: Grabsch is the surprising winner today!

Stage 2/8
A tough stage already which will likely give us a new leader, a break of 6 takes off early but the pack chases them hard causing Bodrogi to let go and so Boom could rise in the GC but unfortunately the break was never caught and 4 stronger ones joined the group in the final kms. Zabriskie and Cataldo were in the group aswell and they would be fighting for the lead. Another rider who catched the eye was Wellens who got a huge offer from the Mexican Tecos Guadalajara and now rides for them in the South American and European cyclo cross events and also on the road! He was also the favourite in the group to win and was very close but not close enough...
Left: Bodrogi has to let go with Arashiro in front of him, Right: Theo Eltink wins, Cataldo ends 3rd and takes the lead!

Nothing really happened here, Liquigas doesnt let anyone go and we get a bunchsprint were a strong Dall'Antonia surprised friend and foe by ending 2nd! The winner wasn't less surprising as Jonas Aaen Jorgensen won a stage for the Jelly Belly's
Jorgensen takes the win as some weird folks are standing on the road during the sprint!

thanks dave
by doing that it gives me and the reader perhaps more of a feeling that it isnt totally unrealistic
lets get this going again, it will take forever like this so lets go! --8)
btw im using some new flags, credits for them go out to Smoothie
Stage 4/8:
The queen stage of this tour, since Calzati isnt exactly strong enough to beat all the other climbers here we want to have someone up front a break and after numerous attacks it is Pavel Brutt who finds himself in a group of 7 featuring Zberg and Cooke who were also present in the break in stage 2 and therefore could take over the lead today would they be succesfull again...
The break cruising trough California...
On the climbs Brutt is one of the stronger ones but since he doesnt stand a chance on his own he does decide to wait for the others once he has crossed the final KOM point. This turns out to be a good decision because they have a safe lead going into the final km and Zberg and Cooke will also have to fight it out for the lead (Cooke holds a 6 second advantage over Zberg) Brutt feels confident about a sprint and it seems to come down till one until Santaromita decides to escape and suddenly everyone is looking at eachother! But then Brutt turns to action and starts to chase him down but it seems to late...
Left: Santaromita goes into the final km!, Right: Brutt takes an astonishing win! What a show of power!
Matt Cooke from Health Net is the, somewhat surprising, new leader
Result:
01. Pavel Brutt NIPPO CORPORATION - MEITAN HOMPO CO. LTD - ASADA 3h51'58

Stage 5/8:
Noted as a flat stage, but looking at the profile it could be a nice day to test out the legs of some of the weaker riders in the top 10, and so we did with Brutt, Calzati and Wu accelerating on the climbs this was the result:
Nippo does some damage!(apparently the re-sizing went wrong)
However once we let go it is Kim Kirchen who escapes, and without me noticing I see that he has a 6 minute lead with 20 kms to go. Also the other teams dont seem to notice that and so its an easy win for Kirchen who also takes over the lead in a stage where no one seemed to care about winning...
Kirchen takes a surprisingly easy win in San Luis!
Result:

Stage 7/8:
Another flat stage with some difficulties, again we send Pavel Brutt up front since Wu and Calzati arent allowed to stay up front...
Brutt in the group of 8
Brutt, who is looking for his 2nd stage win in this tour, up the pace on the final climb and only 2 Americans, Jones and McKissick are capable of following him
2 Americans and 1 Russian on their way to the finishline
Their lead is safe and so if Brutt pays attention he could easily snatch his 2nd win in this years Tour of California. And he easily beats both Jones and McKissick for his 2nd win!
People in California have seen this before, but still a great win for Pavel!

Stage 8/8:
Total chaos in the final stage of this years tour of California, Linus Gerdemann quickly falls and the reason is this:
Someone drank a little bit too much this morning...
That wasnt all, at the end of the race it was the manager of the BMC team who got into a fight with the tour director after throwing water bottles to the jury members! Why did he throw bottles at them u may ask? Well, because according to BCM their rider Mike Sayers clearly won but that the corrupted jury awarded the win to a different rider on purpose...well lets see who's right
MMM...too close to call for me
Brice Jones, the guy from Toyota is awarded with the win while Jan Boven miracelously ends 3rd...(he;s the orange spot on the left  )

thanks guys
another long post, the whole Vuelta a Communitat Valenciana will be posted right now...and btw, once Nippo reaches Paris Nice they will likely be wearing a new kit
Stage 1/5:
The tour begins with a nasty stage which is immediatly a good test for Benatti to see whether he is already fit enough for MSR. Benatti already does way better in this stage as he doesnt struggle that much on the hills and so he is present in a group of 58 men which will fight it all out in a sprint...but he has some tough competition as Freire is also present, which of these 2 'Giants' will win?
Left: The group gets closer to the finishline, Right: Freire just beats Benatti!
Result:
01. Oscar Freire RABOBANK 5h16'33
02. Daniele Bennati NIPPO CORPORATION - MEITAN HOMPO CO. LTD - ASADA s.t.

24 Enrique Salgueiro KARPIN GALICIA s.t.
25 Pablo Lastras CAISSE D'EPARGNE s.t.
Stage 2/5:
The first mountain stage even though it has to be said that only the final kms are very tough and that a small sprint will likely decide the winner. With Abal in mediocre form we send veteran Didier Rous up front in a break and with 6 kms to go and only he, Knees and Vandborg are left over...however with 5 kms to go Rous has to let go and 1 km later Knees aswell. However Vandborg would only end 16th as a group of climbers sprinted past him in the final km. Iban Mayo was the fastest of them all...
Left: Knees, Rous and Vandborg going up the mountain, Right: Iban Mayo just beats Vino
Result:

23 Guido Trentin SAUNIER DUVAL - PRODIR s.t.
24 Grischa Niermann RABOBANK + 1'00
25 Gustavo Veloso KARPIN GALICIA s.t.
Stage 3/5:
A flat stage but because the pace on the final hills was so high it was only a small group of 16 men that was left over...Vicioso and Valverde were the strongest and Vicioso eventually won with an 11 second gap over Castano who ended 3rd... (see picture)
Vicioso takes a win for Relax Gam while Valverde misses out on a win yet again...
Result:
01. Angel Vicioso RELAX - GAM 5h27'42
02. Alejandro Valverde CAISSE D'EPARGNE s.t.

25 Gustavo Veloso KARPIN GALICIA s.t
Stage 4/5:
Mountains again! This time we would be going for an attack again and since Abal did dreadful in the 1st mountain stage he sent him up front this time and even though he and the group had to fight for it they finally got some room after the first sprinting point. In the group are several good climbers such as Andy Schleck, Salgueiro, Petrov, Laverde, Galparsoro and Niermann who looked strong on the first climb...
The group of 12 approaching the 2nd climb of the day
On the final climb the group had a safe lead but would still have to work hard in order to stay up front, meanwhile Salgueiro goes up front and for a moment Abal is worried since he's getting worned down by Salgueiro but when he looks back he only sees Niermann who just had to let go and Valverde who wants to ruin both of their days up front. In end it seems that Salgueiro has to pay for his hard work...
Left: Abal and Salgueiro entering the final km, Right: David Abal takes a great win!
Result:
01. David Abal NIPPO CORPORATION - MEITAN HOMPO CO. LTD - ASADA 4h07'49
02. Enrique Salgueiro KARPIN GALICIA + 14
03. Alejandro Valverde CAISSE D'EPARGNE + 30

Stage 5/5:

Muller takes an easy win in the final stage!

Getting closer to my first PT race in a 2nd season...first time im doing one with a ct team...but first our leader Benatti wants to do some racing in Italy to prepare himself for Milano San Remo
A perfect profile for Benatti but still we tried to get in the break multiple times, after 70 kms Bespalov gets some room and he is accompanied by 8 other riders
Bespalov up front when the group goes up the 1st climb of the day
In the back only T-Mobile seems willing to work and so when the break has a 6 minute advantage when they go up the toughest climb of the day it seems certain that they will make it but which riders in the break will be able to hang on? First the weaker climbers, Kerkez and Wijnants have to let go, 1 km later its Martin Mares from the water and soap boys who lets go and then I already have a feeling that Bespalov will be the next one but somehow he is still able to follow even when Di Grande and Baguet have been left behind but just before the end of the climb Gautier, Baliani and Illiano leave Bespalov behind who then tries to get back together with Baguet and a few kms later also Di Grande.
Left: Baliani, Gautier and Illiano descending, Right: Baguet and Bespalov trying to get back
But as expected the 3 up front stay up front and then in the sprint it seems to be a battle between the Italians Illiano and Baliani but Gautier surprises them and everyone else with a strong sprint and therefore takes the win! Bespalov loses the sprint for the 4th and 5th place and ends 6th which is still a good result. And in the back Benatti beats Petacchi in the sprint... --8)
Cyril Gautier takes the win for Selle Italia!
Result:
01. Cyril Gautier SERRAMENTI PVC DIQUIGIOVANNI - SELLE ITALIA 4h48'13

I never thought this day would come...nippo in a pro tour race I have raced paris nice a few times already but its the first time im actually participating in the 2nd season with a CT team! --8)
props still go out to the maestro cos if he wouldnt have solved that 1/4 bug I would have never continued this story!
first of all, now that we are a part of the pro tour circus a more professional jersey was requested by the sponsors, bigger companies wanted to sponsor us now and so we have ourselves a pro tour jersey --8)
credits go out to Brucht
now on to racing!
We've got Boom and Calzati as our leaders here but none of them is probably strong enough to compete for a top 10 spot here. However in this TT Lars Boom could surprise even though guys such as Lang, Rogers and Cancelarra are present. All these riders have set a time already when Lars goes down the hill, after the first checkpoint he is down by 2 seconds! Would the young Dutchman actually beat Fabian Cancellara?
no  Lars was exactly 1 second slower, but still a great performance from Lars Boom! Because now we are 2nd in the pro tour rankings --8)

We didnt really bring any sprinters here and since we even didnt make it into the daily break it seemed that this stage would just be a boring one...but I can already tell you that it wouldnt be but first the break of the day
Mizourov, Dupont and Feillu riding trough sunny France
They get over 9 minutes but with 30 kms to go their adventure ends, then the pack gets ready for a mass sprint but with 11 kms to go it is a Tinkoff riders who crashes while he is riding up front in the pack!
Perez Rodriguez falls and takes down Tiralongo aswell, but will he take down anymore riders?
Since he crashed up front this was the result:
Now thats a masscrash! Aprox. 90 riders are taken down to the tarmac including Cancelarra!
I quickly look how many Nippo's are involved and u'll never guess it, not a single Nippo fell as our whole squad win up front in the group of 77 riders which managed to evade the crash. Up front several sprinters are missing and once they come out of the corner its clear that its a 'sprint a deux' between Boonen and 'Cav'
Boonen and Cavendish sprinting towards the finishline
In the end it's Tommeke who takes the win in Buzancais, but more importantly...does Boom take over the lead or are the boni seconds enough for Boonen to ruin our fun?
Boonen takes the win, will he take over the lead aswell?
In the back the victims cross the finishline as more than 80 riders lose 2'23, amongst them is Fabian Cancelarra who loses his leaderjersey
Todays losers, for some riders todays stage already ruined their Paris Nice

Does Lars Boom lead now? It would be amazing for Nippo!
GC after 2 stages:
01. Lars Boom NIPPO CORPORATION - MEITAN HOMPO CO. LTD - ASADA 4h26'19
02. Vincenzo Nibali LIQUIGAS + 7
03. Samuel Sánchez Gonzalez EUSKALTEL - EUSKADI + 10
04. Pierre Rolland CRÉDIT AGRICOLE s.t.
05. Marco Velo TEAM MILRAM + 12
06. Sébastien Joly FRANÇAISE DES JEUX + 13
07. David Moncoutié COFIDIS, LE CRÉDIT PAR TÉLÉPHONE s.t.
08. Didier Rous NIPPO CORPORATION - MEITAN HOMPO CO. LTD - ASADA s.t.
09. Joost Posthuma RABOBANK + 14
10. Tom Boonen QUICK STEP - INNERGETIC + 15
Lars It's clear that even though there were many losers today that Nippo definately was the winner of the day with Boom taking over the lead and Rous entering the top 10. Because of the crash we are also the best team atm

hehe, indeed I never saw such a big crash and it was amazing how my guys came out of it unharmed cos they went right over Perez Rodriguez and I was already fearing the worst...I guess the AI will have its revenge later on:cry:

indeed it was, a ct race before we go back to the Pro Tour circus:
while plakker is working his magic on my Sparta Praha game... B)
we go back to extreme land with the Nippo squad
An Italian race where we send a team that will likely also attend Tirreno Adratico. Benatti once again tries to get in better shape for Milano San Remo and with many topsprinters absent here he should win the bunchsprint with ease. But he will likely not win the race since a break got away and no one wanted to help the Nippo's with their chase
Left: The break of 8 which has a big lead, Right: The Nippo's dont get any help
The gap is too big and so one of these 8 will win this race which is quite important for the Italian CT teams. Up front the escapees get nervous and one man is strong enough to break away and with 1 km to go he is up front by himself with 4 riders trying to chase him down while 3 others have to let go.
Wijnants goes for gold while Spasic, Barton, Calderon and Vargas are on the hunt!
Wijnants looks good but then he meets the man with the hammer and he is taken back by the 4 chasers!
Vargas takes down Wijnants who can forget about the win
And the man from Colombia, Jefferson Vargas, keeps on sprinting and takes a surprising win for Ceramica Flaminia. Benatti meanwhile wins the bunchsprint with ease...
Vargas takes the win, Spasic and Calderon complete the exotic podium
Result:
01. Jefferson Vargas CERAMICA FLAMINIA 4h03'39
