Great job by the team & Jens to achieve two top 10s as some outsiders. And a great prospect for the future. Odd that Laporte takes a break though when he was winning cobbled races before. Perhaps his support would have come in handy in the final selection too but it all went very wel.

@Shonak: Laporte is great in races where the cobbles aren't as selective, but in De Ronde, he would have been a Top 30 rider, at best. And he has earned the right to spend his race days otherwise
@rogvi: I was very happy, too! Those races aren't my strength as a player, so getting two Top 10s out of it was very nice.
Quick note: This story is slowing down a bit, mostly because I just enjoy ManGame reporting a little more at the moment, but also because my life is slowly getting busier again. We're still going to have semi-regular updates, of course, but not every two to three days like until about a week ago

What a tragedy! With Gaudu in charge of the Ardennes, Fernando Barceló planned his whole spring around this race. And it seemed to have paid off! With a brilliant solo ride on day two, he got the yellow jersey. He defended it on the next two stages, losing only 14 seconds thus far - before crashing on the final road stage and losing almost five minutes. Had he finished in one of the two bigger groups behind Alaphilippe that day, he’d have had a shot at the podium. A stage win is still a great achievement against this competition, but it’s a tough look back at these six days. |

Bad luck with the crash but still nice to get a stage win out of it and show that Barcelo can win races

@Shonak: Yeah, with Barcelo and Utro, we're really well set-up for the future in the hills department. And Gaudu, of course.
@krisa: Thank you very much, glad to hear you like it!
Amstel Gold Race | 19.04.2021 D. Gaudu | N. Edet | N. Berhane | E. Gesbert | | M. Utro | F. Barceló | A. Perez |
1. | Wout Van Aert | Team Jumbo-Visma | 6h45’08 | 2. | David Gaudu | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | s.t. | 3. | Massimiliano Utro | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | s.t. | 4. | Julian Alaphilippe | Deceuninck-Quick Step | s.t. | 5. | Benoît Cosnefroy | Ag2r La Mondiale | s.t. |
So, guys … have you heard about Massimiliano Utro yet?
Also, David Gaudu really comes into his own as a team leader here after a disappointing start of the season.
La Flèche Wallonne | 22.04.2021 D. Gaudu | N. Edet | N. Berhane | N. Haas | | M. Utro | F. Barceló | A. Perez |
1. | Marc Hirschli | Team Sunweb | 4h48’37 | 2. | Julian Alaphilippe | Deceuninck-Quick Step | s.t. | 3. | Benoît Cosnefroy | Ag2r La Mondiale | s.t. | 4. | Laurens De Plus | Team Sunweb | s.t. | 5. | Krists Neilands | Team Total Direct Energie | s.t. | 6. | David Gaudu | Cofidis, Solutions Crédits | s.t. |
Slightly less flashy, but with Utro in 8th place, still a strong team result.
Liège - Bastogne - Liège | 26.04.2021 D. Gaudu | N. Edet | N. Berhane | P. Périchon | | M. Utro | F. Barceló | A. Perez |

Yeeehehesss! What a big one! On a course that saw the last uphill section passed 7 kilometers from the finish line, Gaudu jumped on the right move with Woods and Wellens and had the quickest finish. What a massive moment for both the team and the young French!
Cofidis Continental Race Highlights - March Win | Circuit Cycliste Sarthe, Stage 3 | Adrien Petit | Win | Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, Stage 1 | Elia Viviani | Win | Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, Stage 2 | Elia Viviani | 2nd | Paris - Camembert | Massimiliano Utro |
It's telling that three stage wins constitute a quieter month for us now. Viviani did well in preparation of the Giro, Petit and Utro added their own highlights as well. . |

And I thought Van Aert benefited too much by me controlling him when I finished second with him in Amstel
Great to see the nerdiest looking cyclist I've ever seen turning into quite the puncheur.

Great results in the Ardennes. Gaudu is having a strong campaign with his new team after a slow start.

In this case he benefited from a very flat finish, so he's not quite an elite puncheur yet, but he can certainly hold his own there

He really needed those results in the Ardennes, after UAE and Paris-Nice went somewhat poorly. Gonna be interesting how he handles the dual leadership with Soler at the Tour.
Yes! Yes indeed!

It really was. And I'm not 100% sure, but it's possible that was the first time I ever won LBL in PCM, so a very cool moment for sure

David Gaudu was still carrying momentum from his victory at La Doyenne so he just kept going. He laid the groundwork for his GC win by attacking on the first road stage alongside Sam Oomen, who took the stage win by centimeters but we can look past that, I guess.
Consonni also came incredibly close a day later, but after a breakaway win on stage four, David Gaudu cemented his claim to the yellow jersey by winning the only mountaineous stage of the race. He will take a well-deserved break now before he continues with preparations for the Tour, while Consonni moves on to the Giro. ,

He's been fantastic in these weeks, but it's also the end of his peak. He's been riding since mid-february and wouldn't be able to sustain his form until the end of may. Maybe next season if the Tour route doesn't suit him again he'll focus on April and May instead of March and April and go for the Giro then, that's an option for sure.

Regarding the settings I dont know about Impossible have not tried it.
As you say instead i generally accept the AI training/goal setup. To avoid playing as close to 100% all the time.
Do sometimes "improve" the training in planner, fatigue can be a problem if you dont. But I am not optimizing to get 100% at important races, if at mid 90's I accept.
You can read all my rules at the first page of my story if you want inspiration to get more realistic results, 2018 sadly too easy if you are a veteran PCM user.
Regarding you story havent had the time (MG), but will attempt to follow.

While I don't plan to have stats be a big part of this story, I can understand the request in this case Here you go:
He's an absolute beast, although he has been overperforming maybe a bit. But that combination of Hills and Sprint/Acc is just fantastic to play with, complemented by nice secondary stats. He started the year with 74 hills, so already improving. Definetely one of the best guys I ever scouted.

Pretty solid result, although with a better timing, the win would have been within reach. But that was a risk we took when we sent Simone Consonni to the Tour de Romandie instead of helping out here, so it’s all good.
Giro d‘Italia | Preview The first grand tour of the year is coming up and I thought this warrants an actual preview. First, a quick overview of the stages:
The 2021 route skews heavily towards mountain stages, with not a lot of opportunities for puncheurs to show their worth. Six mountain top finishes plus a mountain time trial will instead provide a stage for the premier climbers to really duel it out for the GC win. One of the flat time trials is also a team time trial.
Note: For some reason, this is the same route as last year. Realised it too late to change it, hope it doesn't matter too much. . |

Could end up a long Giro for Cofidis if Latour underperforms, and in this field it will be tough to shine. Hopefully there will be some breakaway wins and perhaps the Top 10 by Pierre and even white jersey. Team has been flying so far this season so they should come into this race with high morale.
