Gree-Tour of Guangxi
[img-r]https://i.imgur.com/78BLUuy.png[/img-r]

The race started very for Groenewegen, winning the first two stage after brilliant set ups by the team. Things didn't go as well in the next mass sprints due to crashes or unexpected splits in the pack and Groenewegen found himself without any team mates around him in the last 3 kilometers. He finished second in all the other 3 mass sprints with Theuns, Hofland and Haller taking a stage win each.

Groenewegen celebrates a Jumbo double in the second stage

Benoît Cosnefroy won the hardest stage of the race which had an uphill finish, but with a gap of only 9 seconds to a pack, a pack which did not broke apart on the climb and contained Groenewegen, it was not enough for the Frenchman to take more than a podium spot in the GC.

It was Groenewegen who took the overall thanks to his placings in the flat stage, ending a brilliant season for the Dutchman where he won the green jersey at the Tour and was one win short of topping the rankings of most wins of the season.

A new season lies upon us and Jumbo start theirs with the national championships of New Zealand. George Bennett claimed the win last year after joining the early attack and this year he did the same.

i.imgur.com/ZEHzWPZ.png

And once again it paid off. He attacked on the last climb of the day and got a gap big enough to allow him to cross the finish line in first place and retain his title.

Danny Van Poppel started his season just as he finished the previous one, by winning. He was in perfect form in the first 3 stages in Australia and with some brilliant work by the team, he managed to be first across the finish line in all stages, including the only uphill finish of this year's race.

i.imgur.com/B7EFxkS.png
Jansen, Bennett and Van Poppel at the front of the pack during the third stage

Things didn't go as smooth for Jumbo starting withe fourth stage, with the entire team except for Van Poppel and C.F. Hagen being involved in a mass crash. This saw Bennett's dreams of winning the race again being shattered.

It would have been pretty hard for the Kiwi to defend his title anyway, since the fifth stage passed the Willunga Hill twice, but a few good kilometers before the finish line. After only a fifth place in the fourth stage, Van Poppel got back on the podium for the last 2 stages to defend his overall lead, despite not winning any more races.

A rather interesting profile for this year's race. And one thing is for sure, the cobblestones will make for a much more interesting race.

The cobblestones weren't in the end hard enough to make any gaps at the front of the race although they thinned the pack quite a lot and made a lot of legs feel very heavy by the end of the race.

Van Poppel waited behind Roosen, while the other sprinters overtook them, but a late move proved to be the right move after a very difficult race and it brought Danny yet another victory in a month to remember for the Dutch champion.

Bora rode a very good opening stage, putting everyone else at least 20 seconds behind them, with Jumbo at around the 30 seconds mark off the German team.

The German team broke apart in the next stage, when only Konrad was able to follow the pace of the strongest men in the race, in a stage won by Van Aert from a group filled with GC riders. Van Aert would take the next stage win as well, a mass sprint after a very tricky stage.

i.imgur.com/icmzpwE.png

In the queen stage, Konrad found himself isolated quite early and unable to follow riders like Uran, Bennett and Carapaz. Uran took the stage win in front of Bennett, but it would be Bennett who would be moving into the leader's jersey thanks to Jumbo's better time than EF in the opening TTT.

After Van Poppel's brilliant start of the season, there was a lot of pressure on Groenewegen to deliver the same type of results. And the Dutchman delivered by winning the first stage and coming second, behind Jasper Philipsen in the fourth stage.

Grosu leading out Groenewegen for the first time

Poels, Kelderman and Pogacar were the strongest riders in the race and despite Poels coming out on top of the other two in both hilly stages, with no time gaps being created between them, it was the time - trial stage that proved to be the most decisive. And there it was Kelderman's time to shine as he improves on last year's 3rd place to win the race this year!

Plenty of good sprinters in the race, but only two of them got the chance to write their name next to a stage win victory: Caleb Ewan and Sam Bennett.

Rohan Dennis won the second's stage time - trial, but was not able to follow the strongest climbers in the queen stage as he dropped out of contention for the first places in the GC. Dumoulin and Buchamann proved to be the strongest riders of the day, with the Dutchman taking the victory and the leader's jersey.

Dumoulin had no problem defending his position in the final stage to claim another great victory for Sunweb, following Kelderman's win in Portugal. Not the same thing happened with Buchmann, who struggled to keep up the rhythm with the strongest. Same thing happened with his team-mate, Schachmann as both dropped out of the podium places in the GC, losing them to Kruijswijk and Landa.

The awful rain made it very difficult today for the cyclists. A puncture in a very bad moment for Jansen and a massive crash in the pack which involved all but ~10 riders made in a hell race for Jumbo. Only Teunissen and Van Baarle managed to avoid the crash but neither are in a very good shape at the moment.

The chaos in the pack allowed many of the breakaway rider to achieve a very important result today. Most of them blended in with what was left from the pack, while the strongest one would manage to make it all the way to finish line in a glorious stage win. It was QuickStep's Iljo Keisse.

Some rider were definitely hoping to avoid a sprint today, but with the last cobbled section so far away from the finish line that was impossible.

Once the final kilometers were reached, Jumbo took full control of the pack as they launched Danny Van Poppel to his 6th win of the season. Modolo and Coquard completed the podium, with last year's winner, Caleb Ewan only fourth.

Plenty of sprint opportunities in the Arab Emirates. And the wide roads meant we saw some very close finishes, which resulted in 5 different winners in 6 mass sprints. The only rider to win twice? Dyland Groenewegen.

i.imgur.com/rRETW4b.png
A very close sprint in the first stage

With the help of Gesink, Poweless managed to get himself into a very good position in the queen stage of the race. The American did not have the legs to follow the likes of Geoghegan Hart and Dombrowski as they broke away from the rest, but did enough to gain himself a top 5 overall. Geoghegan Hart outsprinted Dombrowski to take the stage win and eventually the GC.

Despite thinning the pack quite a bit, none of the white Italian roads were rode hard enough to really decide this year's winner. Instead we ended up with a sprint between a group of almost 40 riders.

Wout Van Aert looked quite good the entire day and even though he was quite fast in the final sprint, he failed to get on the podium due to rather poor positioning at the start of the final punch. Bora's Patrick Konrad proved to be the strongest in the sprint as he gets one of the most important wins of his career.
