Boonen busted
Xavier
If his weird story is true then he should be able to prove it with a hair sample or something like that.
If I remember well there was in recent years some french rider who was *falsly* accused of having taken cocaine and he proved he was innocent by giving up a hair sample for analysis.

Even if someone slipped him something (which quite obviously didn't happen), he is still responsible for everything he eats or drinks as an athlete. Even if his drink is spiked, he is responsible for it. That's the rules

wtf if someone did put coke in his drink, what has happend to the world???
Rolling Eyes like Boonen wouldn't notice someone putting cocaine in his drink Rolling Eyes. If you order a drink at the bar you see them take the drink or bottle or whatever, im pretty sure David Copperfield wasn't at the place Boonen ordered the drink so he should have noticed if they did put it in and afterworths i don't think anyone would slip up to his glass or bottle and dump some coke in it. Frown

Even if he didn't, if you take a nip from a coke Pfft, Soda, water, beer, whatever ... and cocaine has been put into it, im pretty sure you'l notice immeadiatly (Coke has a very bitter taste).

Boonen did know he was using coke. He just ain't man enough to admit.

anyway thats my opinion. Besides that Go Belgium B)

@ doddy didn't they catch him with drugs on him, or find any at his house, parents house ... that makes things a bit harder Pfft for the Belgian law system. But he probably still will be charged for drug use. Althought there is a chance with him getting of with nothng. ... Afterall his popular in Belgium and they only have doping agency testing him. ... if he wasn't a pro sporter he wouldn't have been caught.

There was one missing thingy in my thread because i didnt know the english word for it, so if a belgium guy could help me out Smile het was op een terraske dus daar ziede ni hoe u drinken wordt ingeschonkenWink

Oh and if I heard correctly you can only be charged with possesion of drugs and taking drugs is weirdly not against the law as long that you dont have any drugs on you and at home.

And what you said about if he wasnt a prosporter... If you get caught on cocaine they dont do a house search immediatlySmile, you just have to pee in a cup for a period so that the cops would see that you stopped.
Still his sence of taste has to be properly messed up to not taste cocaine in his drink. Poor excuse imo

could aswell have told us, someone forced him to smell his finger and there was coke on it. Rolling Eyes

You know I read this thread and all I can think that is't a sad day in cycling when it's fans argue regarding doping and doping controls.

Facts
1. he tested positive for coke under the testing guidelines.

....Wait that's all that matters, it doesn't matter if he took it during a race, before a race or during a holiday. He tested positive and I'm sure his "b" sample tested also. It doesn't matter if it gives him an edge, it's a banned substance - end of story.

Now I'm netural as a Bonnen fan - I admire his raw power and sprinting ability (Even though I consider sprinting only a fraction of skills needed to ride the Pro Tour) but the single fact is that he tested positive, ignoring this fact and not banning him under the guidelines is horrible for the sport of cycling.

All of these riders signed documentation indicating they would abide to the UCI guidelines which includes doping guidelines - they know what will happen if they break the rules so they should act accordingly.

"I was slipped the grug...." I'm sorry that doesn't fly. Make you own damm food then! I'm ALWAYS amazed to see riders taking bottles from spectators during stages - if my career depended on it I'd NEVER do that, but we see it done EVERY race. The same goes for all my food and drink intake not only during a race but EVERY meal. Is it a pain? Yeah but as a rider they should be taking responsibility for their actions - (Damm they make a sh*it load of cash)

I understand that cycling is trying to clean up the sport (God knows they need to) but at this point in time it doesn't matter who it is they need to treat everyone the same with an iron fist, it doesn't matter who the rider is. Because long term all anyone is going to remember is that Boonen tested positive, Landis tested positive, Vinokourov tested positive, Hamilton tested positive, and the list goes on. What will people remember long trem for the sport of cycling?

Damm after work today I'm going to hop on my bike and ride, I don't care for how long or how fast I'm going to do it because i LOVE it.

could aswell have told us, someone forced him to smell his finger and there was coke on it.

Also: Who the hell would put coke in someones drink? First of all it is an expensive drug. Secendly, there is absolutely nothing to gain from putting coke in someone elses drink. Other that maybe screwing up Tom Boonens carreer on purpose which is an absolutely proposterous thought. And finally: No matter what the excuses everything bobh wrote above applies.

Not really an odd thought. There are guys in most US cities with a NFL team who try to pick fights with NFL guys in bars just to get them out of a game because they're fans of the opponent.

Fans do stupid things... fan stands for "fanatic" you know.

were talking about a waiter here . If Tom Boonen been tricked (like he says), he should go back to the bar and pick the fight himself Rolling Eyes. With he won't do because he knows how stupid he sounds

Besides Boonen claimed to have felt ill after the drink. That would require atleast a normal amount of cocaine in his drink, with he should have tasted ... he fucked up thats all

No Boonen at the tour, final decision of the ASO. Totally justified

doddy13
yup, agreed. Will be good for the sport to see someone who has taken drugs be excluded from an event this quickly. Cycling really is turning around i think. It may take some years but the younger riders aren't really doing it.

Does cocaine have a taste in a drink? I've got no experience you understand... I wouldn't know if you could taste it or not.

The following joke is from a co-worker of mine:

"And Boonen moves around the outside, and he is flying, he's moving so fast he's kicking up a white cloud around him, and half the peloton is twitching on the side of the road"

Now imagine this with Phil Liggett's voice, it is amazing
