Btw what i found maybe the worst on this edition of PCM are almost exactly same riders crashing again and again and same with breakaway appereance. It is like the dice is rolled during stage 1 and "crash" or "break" groups are decided. You cant escape from that group since that point...our irders are crashing too, but some teams seem really plagued by that. Festina riders probably ride jelly bikes?
At least with the breakaway riders this has been going for several editions now. You just know that if you restart a stage in career the same guys will attack again. And in a stage race, those names keep popping up all the time, even tho a team may have way better riders suited for botds. Definitely one of the issues that Cyanide should fix, although of course reappearing names are also a thing in real cycling, particularly when riders are in form. But since there's no season form in the MG races, more riders should at least try from time to time.

I thought going into breakaways has something to do with the fighter stat.

I think it was a big mistake to let Tejay go on his own. He such look unbeatable in the end but unfortunately, once again "only" a third place for Skujins.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

When having two riders attacking in the end it is a bit "dissapointing" to see them take 5th and 6th instead of getting a 3rd - but that is really nitpicking - Especially when Koretzky is not as fast as Lutsenko and Sagan.
Great performance from our riders. Shit to see Morton and Alarcon down and struggling. It's definately not the way we want to compete.
Absolutely crazy performance by Lutsenko so far btw. Being 2nd after 10 stages is really a great performance, and at this point he have such a good gap that he could actually get top 20 in the GC.
I hope Lecuisinier can take the U25 jersey back on stage 12.
Piter Campero did well today having a shit hill stat, but Vasyliv must be semi-injured from a crash yesterday (or earlier). He should not lose 6 minutes with 74HI stat.
Now, after having a very easy day, we need Coquard to step up. We cannot expect him to finish the race after the 3rd week, so he have two chances to get a stagewin/stage podium. And we need all the stage succes we can get.

The flat stage 9 seems to have done us some good with Boily now coming back to a decent level and a bit further down Ellisonde performing as expected so hopefully we can start to get some good results as crashes have just killed us so far Duchesne still riding amazingly well though hopefully he can get some more days in KOM lead soon |

If somebody seriously overperforms, it is Lecuisiner.
I hate this race, i hope for fast end already.
Thanks for the report though roturn, great quality. Congrats Mre!

Depends if attacking is = overperforming.
He did what was expected in the TT and mountains - or slightly worse.
He attacked in the hills and gained a bit. But more or less those behind him crashed, underperforms or just lacks those mountains that will come later.
Lecuisinier would probably end 8th or 9th if looking at stats. Right now he is 6th with riedes such as Morton and Alarcon heavily behind, due to crashes, but riders like Uran, Nibali and Velits are all just waiting for the mountains. Of those 3, only Nibali should be ahead at this point. The rest will be better later.
So yes, Lecuisinier is "overperforming" on a stage or two, and underperforming on a stage or two. Campero about on par. Koretzky about on par. Coquard overperforming once, while underperforming 3 times. Vasyliv and Haller significantly underperforming.

You can`t expect all riders on par with their stats though.
In especially not when having a sprinter and GC rider and puncheur. Hence Vasyliv, Haller, Campero need to protect those I guess and lose more energy this way.
So when only looking on your "leaders"
Lecuisinier on par to OP
Koretzky on par
Coquard average as most in those stat area
Regarding my own team. Can`t say Olivier and Bennett are performing here. Both never attack or are in the earlier groups. Hence losing time on different riders on each stage.
At least Groenewegen did nicely on 1 or 2 stages. |

Another good result from Guldhammer, gaining 50 seconds on the big group. A pity he couldn't hang on to the puncheurs in his group, and neither Lecuisinier, as that would have made it even better. Sitting 7th in GC is also good considering the competition here compared to the Giro, and hopefully he can hang on at least to a top 10, eventhough a couple of the riders behind him, like Tenorio and Velits really should overtake him.
On the other hand I must hope Lutsenko and Van Garderen will get into serious difficulties in the mountains, and they really should considering their stats, but after all there are more hilly stages to come as well, meaning I won't count them out in the fight for the top 10.
Congrats again, Mre, and thank you for the report, roturn. |

Another decent show by Sagan, almost on par in standings with Velits now. Can't expect anything from Velits anywhere else than in mountains, so I am quite happy that he finished safely in the main group. Gesink, Lutsenko, Van Garderen and both Guldhammer and Lecuisinier are having a great race so far. Some serious bad luck for Red Bull with Alarcon though.

This looks very much like Gesink will take this now, surely he wont lose 9 minutes in the mountain stages?

I know, I can't expect all riders to be on par - And I don't. It was merely as an answer to Avin, who said Lecuisinier was overperforming. And I don't think he is. The reason he is above some riders he shouldn't be above is because of those specific riders not performing, or crashing rather than Lecuisinier overperforming - This stage as the only exception.
UP = Underperforming
OP = On par
OVP = Overperforming
Stage 1 Bryan Coquard top 5 favorite. He ended up 9th = UP
Stage 2 Bryan Coquard top 7 favorite. He ended up 12th = UP
Stage 3 Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier top 9 favorite. He ended up 12th = OP
Stage 4 Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier top 20 favorite. He ended up in favorites group = OP
Stage 5 Bryan Coquard top 6 favorite. He ended up 2nd = OVP
Stage 6 Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier top 20 favorite. He ended up losing 1 min on similar riders = UP
Stage 7 Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier top 10 favorite. He ended up 9th = OP
Stage 8 Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier top 20 favorite. He ended up 8th in first favorites group = OP/OVP
Stage 9 Bryan Coquard top 5 favorite. He ended up 149th = UP
Stage 10 Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier top 20 favorite. He ended up 6th gaining time = OVP
*Riders failing to perform:
Aleksandr Pluchkin losing time on stage 3 (TT). Losing time on stage 8
Peter Velits losing time on stage 4. Losing time (same group as Lecuisinier) on stage 6. Losing slightly on stage 8.
Rigoberto Uran losing a lot of time on stage 4
Justo Tenorio losing time (same group as Lecuisinier) on stage 6. Losing time on stage 8.
Vincenzo Nibali losing time on stage 7. More time lost on stage 8
Jose Alarcon losing a lot of time due to crashing.
Lachlan Morton losing a lot of time due to crashing.
These are only in direct contact with Lecuisinier. Pluchkin obviously underperforms drastically while a rider such as Gesink overperforms drastically.
So I don't think it can be concluded that Lecuisinier is overperforming. He is performing on par, but on a more regular basis than those behind him. Bryan Coquard is more underperforming than he is on par. He only sprinted well when the peloton broke up and those on his level were left behind.
Clement Koretzky is performing well - Also in this race. Probably also better than what could have been anticipated. Both in terms of stage results and the GC.
All my riders, except for Piter Campero underperformed at the Giro, so I'm happy that we seem to have atleast a bit of luck in this GC. We do have quite a strong team here with a top 10 rider for all stages and some of the strongest helpers for all terrains also. That doesn't guarantee succes, I know...
Daan Olivier on your team is definately not performing well here, but then again. This is the part of the giro that suits him the least. He is not a great TT'er, and he doesn't have an edge in terms of hills either. Before the race he would probably be rated 15th in the GC. Right now he is 20th, and with riders like Lutsenko, van Garderen, Sagan and Skujins ahead because of the hills it doesn't look all too shabby I think. Every other rider ahead is a better rider - Except for Brambilla and Kudus who are similar. Marc Goos slightly worse, but within striking distance. So 15th is not impossible. 13th might even be possible. But having Morton and Alarcon behind might be troubleing though.
Bennett is a slightly better rider than Vasyliv (will be better after the mountains), yet he is 13th spots ahead.
I guess either of them should go for the attack in the final week - And looking at Oliviers Giro performance that is definately possible

Tejay! Tejay! Tejay! Can't believe the peloton just let him attack away like that. Easy win.
A top 10 in GC would be awesome, but the last mountain stage TVG went from 2nd overall to 15th. Plenty of ups and downs to come.
Whatever happens, I'm more than pleased with two stage wins.

Congrats to CountArach, that was some powerful sprint from Jens!
It seems that having a top sprinter this year can be pretty painful experience too, without top notch train like Pokerstars have for Degenkolb.
Thanks for the report roturn!
I wonder what happens now in the mountains...the stages seem too easy for Pluchkin to be able to drop Gesink, i expect rather another show from the flying dutchman.
