Giro d'Italia - Stage 8
After yesterdays climbs, it comes back to the sprinters. Boassen Hagen has had a real breakthrough in this race and he's our clear focus with Greipel providing lead-out duties. We'll be working hard for him today.
There was only one real train as the sprint began, with Balducci leading it out, followed by Greipel then Boassen Hagen. Nocentini made the first move coming up along side Hagen.
Greipel came out from behind Balducci and put the hammer down, getting to the front of the pack when Edvald shot past with 600 meters to go. Haedo was coming up quickly, and it looks like Pettachi is boxed in.
Edvald wins his third stage solidly by a bike length, while Greipel just barely holds on for third behind Nocentini and ahead of Haedo. Pettachi manages to weave his way through the crowd blocking him to take 5th.

Giro d'Italia - Stage 9
Another sprint stage. Another day to work for Boassen Hagen and try to get a big enough points lead prior to the mountains to keep ahead of the climbers in that category.
Yet again, thre was really only one train build and we were near the front. Bettini led the way, with Weylandt, Greipel then Boassen Hagen.
But Greipel faltered, forcing Boassen Hagen to lose a lot of energy to catch Weylandt's wheel. In the end, Edvald didn't have enough to pass the Quickstep rider and took second.

Why do a story on easy or medium no point what so ever as everyone can see you are on easy or medium difficulty. No skill involved!
You realise that stories aren't made for bragging right? Just to share the experience, and if he likes to win a lot it's his choice. Or he's just really good and you can't handle it?
I don't mean to be rude, but please don't say stuff like this to a guy who put much work to make you share his save. |

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 1
This pro-tour event is in an odd spot, taking place at the same time as the Giro d'Italia. Many of the in-form riders will likely be riding there instead. What we see are a lot of riders who'll likely race in the Tour de France who will begin their race preparation here.
Noteables in the field include Leipheimer, Pereiro, Evans, Hushovd, Boonen, Ventoso and McEwen.
The High Road team consists of:
Leader: Kim Kirchen
Free: Thomas Lovkvist
Sprinter: Gerald Ciolek
Teammates: John Devine, Adam Hansen, Tony Martin, Taylor Phinney, and Bert Grabsch.
The team time trial is only 16km long, and we brought a pretty solid TT team to pull Kirchen (who's not as strong a time trialer) along. Even young Taylor Phinney put in some hard work up front, and it paid off with a win.
Stage Results (and first man across for each team):
1 Gerald Ciolek Team High Road 17'41
2 Bert Grabsch Team High Road s.t.
3 Adam Hansen Team High Road s.t.
9 Andreas Klöden Team Astana + 12
17 Bobby Julich Team CSC + 16
19 José JoaquÃn Rojas Caisse d'Epargne s.t.
33 Cadel Evans Silence - Lotto + 33
41 Peter Velits Team Milram + 39
43 David Cañada Saunier Duval - Scott s.t.
57 Maxime Monfort Cofidis, Le Crédit par Téléphone + 44
65 Jan Boven Rabobank + 50
67 Ivan Santaromita Liquigas s.t.
81 Gustavo César Veloso Karpin Galicia + 1'04
83 Frederic Guesdon Française des Jeux s.t.
97 José Luis Arrieta AG2R - La Mondiale + 1'20
105 Andoni Lafuente Euskaltel - Euskadi + 1'21

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 2
Classified as hilly, this stage has enough distance after the last hill that it could easily come down to a sprint.
Fredrigo was alone at the front for almost the whole day today. The pelaton was pretty ambivalent... nobody really wanted to take charge of the chase.
Finally we decided that we'd have to do it. We put a lot of effort forth, but hadn't quite reeled in Fredrigo when the sprint started. Ciolek was far back in the pack after the last hill so Kirchen was our only real hope on the stage.
Fredrigo was toasted. The sprinters swept past him in the last 100 meters. Geslin managed to edge out Landaluze in a very tightly contested sprint.

Giro d'Italia - Stage 10
The first individual time trial, we expect to do very well here. Rogers is among the best at the Giro in the discipline, his form is nearly perfect and his morale is through the roof.
And the team doesn't disappoint. Pinotti rides early and sets a blistering pace. Nobody can touch it until the second to last rider crosses the line... Michael Rogers!
Rogers wins the stage, and by taking 52 seconds on Ricardo Ricco he takes the Maglia Rosa as well!

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 3
A flat stage, but one with a slight rise leading to a downhill finish. We're going to see if Kirchen can take the pelaton off guard with an attack on the uphill and get a large enough lead to hold on for a stage win.
Lovkvist led the attack on the rise and Kirchen followed. The sprint trains were hindered by the uphill and the two were able to gain some ground.
Kirchen flew by Lovkvist as the sprint began.
And Kirchen took the stage ahead of a charging pelaton Lovkvist was caught before the line, but finished in 4th.
Ciolek struggled on the uphills like many of the other sprinters such as Bennati, and didn't finish in the lead group.
Stage Results:
1 Kim Kirchen Team High Road 4h41'01

Giro d'Italia - Stage 11
Classified as hilly, this stage has some mountains in the middle that will take many of the "punchy sprinters" out of it. We think Boassen Hagen will make it over without any problems and getting him a stage win is our primary goal. We do need to watch out for an attack from Ricco or one of the other favorites which Rogers will need to counter.
The race went about as would be expected until about 25km out. Then something noteable happened.
That's right... Ricco got a flat! So immediately we did something perhaps a bit... unsportsmanlike.
We attacked!
We got a gap with some of the other favorites, and had all our riders go all out pushing the pace. Voigt, Gesink, Cunego and Joly were the only ones to go with us.
We didn't have enough left after keeping the pace so high the last 20km to try for the stage... Voigt ended up winning the sprint. But Rogers gained an important 43 seconds on the pelaton, and over two minutes on Ricco.
Stage results:
1 Jens Voigt Team CSC 4h50'59
2 Robert Gesink Rabobank s.t.
3 Sébastien Joly Française des Jeux s.t.
4 Damiano Cunego Lampre s.t.
5 Diego Ulissi Team High Road s.t.
6 Michael Rogers Team High Road s.t.

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 4
The first true mountain stage in this years race. This will sort the GC out quite a bit.
The race was uneventful for the most part. A small unexceptional break went away and was pulled back well before the final mountain section.
Soon after the last set of climbs came up, the attacks started and a clear leading group formed.
Kirchen and Lovkvist were in the group, along with Cobo, Evans, Menchov and others.
Cobo still had some power in his legs and attacked, trying to get away.
High Road was leading the chase as some others like Periero joined the break from behind. But Cobo had better legs than the rest today.
And Cobo wins the stage.
I forgot to export the stage, so no results.

Giro d'Italia - Stage 12
Today's stage is a pancake. Obviously we'll be working mainly for our sprinters again.
Early on we sent Burghardt on a break... and nobody followed. So Burghardt put in an excellent solo ride all day... the lead getting as high as 14 minutes.
We put absolutely no effort on the chase, but a couple of others decided they wanted a sprint finish. Burghardt was eventually pulled in. Like many of the other sprints in the Giro this year, it pretty much came down to a single train. We were well positioned again, but Boassen Hagen had to open up too early and Napolitano took it at the line.
Ricco sprinting and finishing so high does not bode well for Boassen Hagen in the points jersey. Ricco will pick up a lot of points in the mountains... it will be a test for Edvald to hold out enough points.

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 5
It's a time trial. It's uphill. I simmed it. I didn't export the results. My save game is on my other PC.
In short... I don't remember what happened... it was too long ago. I'll try to come back and update it with some stage results. Until then, this is a placeholder.

Giro d'Italia - Stage 13
Another pancake stage. We'll all be working for Edvald.
Unfortunately, we couldn't get good position leading up to the sprint and started way behind. Boassen Hagen was also struggling and couldn't get past Greipel, so just sat on his wheel and hoped for the best.
Petacchi won, Greipel took 4th and Edvald was 6th. We lost out on some points today... I hope it doesn't bite us at the end of the race.

Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Stage 6
Cobo has a significant lead, so we're going to do whatever we can late to maybe get a gap on him. There isn't much of a hill, but Kirchen will do what he can with it.
The break was reeled in and as we approached the final slight incline Lovkvist and Kirchen attacked. They were able to get a small gap as they crested the "summit".
Lovkvist went all out, and then Kirchen sprinted by and took the victory... but the pelaton closed the gap. We got some bonus time, but we're still 52 seconds back with one stage to go.

Giro d'Italia - Stage 14
It's back to business as the mountains start again. We're in the Maglia Rosa and we're all working for Rogers... with the possible exception of Pinotti. He went on the break to work for his pink jersey... but didn't get as many points as we would have liked.
Toward the middle of the second to last climb the attacks started. We waited until Cunego went... that was our cue and Rogers and Ulissi went to cover the break.
We were working hard to pull Cunego back and and had almost gotten there when we say a white jersey streak past. It was Ricco! Then Cunego took off after him. This was bad... Rogers didn't have the strength to follow.
As we got close to the summit of the climb, Ricco had opened a large lead... and Cunego was still ahead as well. Ulissi was really pushing hard for Rogers... the young Italian is really showing a ton of strength.
Ricco and Cunego stayed ahead, but we were caught by the chasers. Ulissi and Rogers really overextended themselves trying to keep the leaders jersey. Ricco took the win and the lead in the Giro.
Cunego finished second, and Di Luca led the Rogers chase group over the line... even opening enough of a gap to be awarded 13 seconds over Rogers (an odd call by the officials on that gap).
Today was not a good day for us. Hopefully we can rebound tomorrow.
