Very well done by Lagab, congratulations, SN.
Admittedly the flat stages got a lot less interesting considering a result for our team without Van Heerden, but Contador made it through the stage safe, which is always a relief when the rain starts to fall. |

Great ride from Denifl again, really outperforming my expectations here so far.

Nice win for Lagab, after our Giro stage win, PCT team grabbing the stage also in second GT of the year, great stuff for the division.
Guerao continues to suck hard and Mohs again incredible...

Great attempt by Bongiorno. But once more, the flat/hilly breakaways should be for Thurau and only the mountains for Bongiorno/Olivier.
Would be much smarter and could have challenged Lagab for the win then eventually.
Congrats to SN and nice to see Krieger in the Lanterne Rouge. Eventually he can defend it in the next 3 stages and even show something in the sprint even though I highly doubt he is going for it.
Next year though he is 79/79 sprinter with 71 flat I think. But more important, the hill stat could be weaker but the mountain stat allows him to stay a bit longer in the long races, which is good to see. |

Great result for the wildcard! Congrats SN. Swift hasn't been great so this could partially compensate it.
Well done, and thanks for another stage

Thanks for the stage, delighted that Akarcon continues to survive in the leaders Jersey.
That hilly stage went very well for us in general, yes time lost to Conta but these stages saw Jose lose a lot of time to the main guns in the Giro.
Really surprised again to see nothing from Tenorio, though at least a little from Machado they seem to be pinning everything on the last week. meanwhile Denifl is continuing his amazing race.

Since it's pretty much impossible to see Henao getting anything more than that 8th place in the GC, a stage win like this is amazing! Great ride by Ruijgh.
Also, great to see the racing back on!

Nice to see a former rider winning. Congrats alex.
Unfortunately none of my young riders was in that break here as a podium would have been possible.
GM not losing time to most is good even though Valverde unfortunately passed him there, which will hopefully change again in the mountains.
3rd Week -> Gomez Marchante time I guess. |

Brilliant! That was far above expectations from Contador.
Now he "just" needs to bring such riding to the big mountains as well if he's going to fight for the big win, which will definitely be a lot harder than on this hilly stage
And with the profiles for the last week, it should certainly be a thrilling end to this grand tour with four riders within a minute and Machado and Nibali just two minutes behind.
Thanks for another great report, SN! |

Pity break could stand until end, would be awesome to grab another podium. It's second in row, maybe next time some stronger team (sorry Smowz ) should take charge when chasing.
Congratz to alex for unexpected win!

Mohs finally starting to show the affects of GT racing ... so Degenkolb wins instead.
It's disappointing that Swift is only going to get 1 stage win out of the race, had hoped for more. But I supposed the consistent 3rd/4th places is at least something, compared to how others are faring.

Really happy with Howard's results in this race. This is likely going to be my best team total points score ever in GTs for my team!

Nice to see Krieger in the mix there. Good effort by him.
Pokerstars once more dominating the sprints. |

Most importantly a safe transitional stage with some welcome help from Bouygues in the pack control job - somewhat of a shame for them that Roelandts his still not really firing. Another day in red for Alarcon of course is always good.
I was getting quite excited that Santos was riding shotgun on Mohs' wheel but of course Pokerstars had a different game plan. To be fair to Degenkolb he has given such awesome lead outs that he deserved a crack at the stage.
All this said Swift should surely be doing better then trailing in after lead outs and sprinters like Howard and Trusov. Lets not start about Guerao - he is having an absolute stinker of a race - to the point where you would question whether he bothers showing up next year.

Yes, Mohs showed some first signs of weakness, but when one fails, then another one is coming! Amazing stuff, John Degenkolb crowned his previous performances and took his first GT win (hopefully first of many )
Upcoming stage is definitely last stage where Mohs can possibly fight for 5th win, but I can easily imagine scenario of sucessful breakaway again. Small bump right before finish in stage 18 will favour other fast maybe even puncheurs.
Thanks for report!

He might. But not for Festina.
