EPIC - Vuelta a España 2013
knockout
So close. Plaza. So close.

@TheRider: No worry. Valverde was just saving some energy during the second week to destroy all his opponents in the last week. We don't have to see 41y old podium the 2013 Vuelta. How unrealistic would that be? Wink

Another flat stage but it’s similar to the 4th stage. It’s a bit easier however. It might be a sprint between the more hilly sprinters instead of the pure speed sprinters. Think along the lines of Belkin’s Cristobal Riquelme.

The escapees this day are Duggan (Saxo Bank), Moser (Cannondale), Rabon (Omega Pharma), Wackermann (Lampre) and Muravyev (Astana). They got a 6 minute gap but at the end of the

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0251_zps1f5e3949.jpg
only a 5 man breakaway today

We’ve got reports of an crash again. we saw Castroviejo (Movistar) getting up quickly and Santaromita was also involved, he was a little slower on the bike but he’s on it. Only one rider isn’t able to continue. It’s rider #92. The Australian from the NetApp team. Mitchell Birt!

Abandon: Mitchell Birt (TNE) #92

The peloton has a 3’17 gap to the breakaway, we’ll see what riders are going to be dropped on the climb. It appears that the spinters are well positioned and don’t lose contact with the peloton. Who have trouble keeping up with the peloton are Caruso (Cannondale) and Hintermuller (MTN). they are both involved in a crash but just manage to stay in the peloton.

another crash

Meanwhile with only 20 km to go, Moser is desperately trying to get away from the peloton to try a solo victory.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0254_zps2920dd4f.jpg
with so very chances for the sprinting peloton, they won’t let this slip right

Moser is the last one standing from breakaway but it’s only 5 kilometers left and the gap is minimal. 26 seconds.

Ghita has come to the front with a massive effort to bring Degenkolb into a good position, Cristobal Riquelme, Ciolek, Petacchi and Rodriguez are in their wheels. Moser is still leading.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0256_zps0a597cdb.jpg

Cristobal Riquelme is the first to go but Degenkolb reacted and blocked when he started his sprint. Ciolek is just behind Degenkolb.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0257_zps8f56d02b.jpg

Moser has been caught and it’s Ciolek and Cristobal Riquelme that are now leading. It’s a three man race since Degenkolb is barely a wheel behind.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0258_zps17177a45.jpg

Degenkolb doesn’t have the strength like earlier when he won. It’s between Ciolek and Cristobal Riquelme for today’s stage win and a team’s goal?

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0259_zps57fdb11d.jpg

It’s extremely close between the MTN rider and the Belkin rider. Meanwhile Petacchi will get 3rd.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0260_zps0194d22a.jpg

IT’S GERALD CIOLEK AGAIN! the German takes a second stage win and the team goal set by the MTN managers. Cristobal Riquelme will be disappointed with second place after getting so close.

i1302.photobucket.com/albums/ag121/SSJ2Luigi/EPIC/PCM0261_zps9436bbe4.jpg

Petacchi get’s the before mentioned 3rd place. Degenkolb get’s only 4th place. Antón and Izagirre surprise with 5th and 6th after Lobato isn’t seen anywere. Roelandts finishes 7th, while Ghita is 8th. Moser and Daniel Martin gain 9th and 10th place. The GC doesn’t change.

Pfff, you don't get any closer than this..

Good for MTN though, and sorry to see Birt abandoning..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Blythe really justifying his selection as a favourite with a strong 79th place finish.

Birt auditioning for a transfer to Belkin there. Ollfardh's gutted he's missed out on a key component of Gesink's crash train. Pfft

Gratz MTN on stage win and achieving their hard goal. Shock

Gutted for Birt but can't deny that the boy was in the focus in his first Grand Tour. Sure he'll come back even stronger after this. Wink

Absolutely incredible. No stage wins at all and then suddenly Cio wins two in a row, completing my hard goal. To complete my other goal I need to join 1(?) more break, which should be far from impossible.

So close to a stage win. Good try from Moser. Smile

Halfway the Vuelta, the rankings seem to be set at the top. Rodriguez and Valverde aren't earning enough points to threaten Sagan, only Froome seems capable to catch up if he wins the Vuelta.

The same story in the team ranking. Movistar had an impressive first week, but stopped after that, and since Sky is getting results elsewhere, the gap is over 2000 points again. Only 1 move in the top 13 of the rankings, RadioShack jumps over Saxo to 9th place.

Most interesting is the fight for regelation. Euskaltel is scoring, but so are Orica and Argos. Argos even jumped over AG2R, but they're not totaly safe yet. But in all honesty, Euskaltel is not looking good and they need that Vuelta top 10 to stay in the race.

After them, it's an interesting budget fight. FDJ might start to regret not sending startlists in and Lampre will curse for their race day problems, as Champion System passed both of them. And even worse, 200 points behind there's a whole bunch of teams that can still overtake them after recent successes: Androni, Vacansoleil, Cofidis, MTN, Columbia and even NetApp after being dead last in the first season part.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Nacho, if you found it funny that Birt crashed then that makes me sick. First of all Argos are majority to blame for him and the rest of the Net-App Team losing 5 minutes. Then it is clearthat Birt wasn't finished in this Vuelta and his season is now cut sort. And last of all your only GC rider is completely inactive and is one of many that should have already been removed from the game.

Not sure why the sudden attack on me and my team.

I really like Birt but I just thought that abandoning after 2 stage wins was a funny occurrence, totally unexpected and frankly just sods law for you and NetApp, obviously I didn't want it to happen.

But don't blame me, that my team delivered a standard stage win for us and in the end we got our first stage win from a mass bunch sprint... We got to fight for our place in the WT.

And Ghita, well I'm not exactly happy about it, hence why I said he was leaving the team at the end of the year 2 months ago, I planned my team to go for Degenkolb and Ghita at the Vuelta since the start of the season so at that point I didn't know LLSD would just disappear. He somehow agreed a contract with another team before that got stopped though...

Sorry nacho, I apologize man. That was unneccessary.
I am just rather pissed off at Birt's rotten luck because I think this was his last race of the season so his season is now over I believe. I wish everyone luck for the rest of the Vuelta as my need to follow it is gone but I'll still check the results cause it looks like this will be a thriller.

Wow, I hope we have an overreaction of the year in the Awards this year. LLS wins it hands down.

So, your rider, who, let's face it, is extremely average at this level, wins two Vuelta stages in his very first GT, which is more than 99.9% of riders win in their entire career, and you go on the rampage because he crashed out. Seeing as there are no injuries in the game, I don't see your problem.

And indeed, how dare Nacho tell his team to come to the front and ride when Konig crashed. Goddamn you Nacho, you piece of shit. Finding a way to control the AI in Luigi's game...

Take a deep breath and realise it's just a game. I'm getting so desperate for a stage win, I'm going to hire a glamour model to hang out of our team car (literally, if you know what I mean Wink) and distract the other riders.

And Birt's still better than Evans...
