Have we just been overrating Phinney or is he maybe getting worse at TT while he works to improve on the classics? I feel like he is drifting further and further away from the elite TT riders.
He's not on form Has he raced since the classics? Might explain it. |

He hasn't improved significantly on the classics, and there is no reason for him to veer away from being a Top 5 TT guy. When the ITT Champs come around he'll be on form and we can see what he can do.

Hm, so looking at Wiggins' back for 20 minutes surely was something else, please more cameras next time. Laurens Ten Dam's after-race crash, stuff of legends right there. Next thing is to crash while crossing the finish line, celebrating a win. And yeah, I fell asleep again, around the time Phinney started.

I think Sir Wiggins can defend the leader's jersey till the end.

That was some serious demolition by Wiggins, but Sagan coming home 15th in the TT can show you how good and in-form the field is for this discipline.

Believe me, i am last one on the forum that should be reminded about his results.
I know Peter is good TTist when he gives a fuck about it and when he has top top form (like that Tour you posted). But now, he is racing after month break and is just coming slowly into form, thus why i made that remark. TT field is simply lame in Cali, compared to WT events.

Good to see Wiggins take this. I was starting to get worried about his abilities for a second
With a 44 second lead, he should take this GC home, too. I don't see Dennis or Phinney climb any better than him, anyway. |

More about whether he gives a s**t than anything else. He's basically had a year off after the Tour win. When he's made the effort (whatever that may imply to you ) he can TT with the best, he can often stick with the climbers in the mountains, he can't accelerate for anyone or anything...
Hope he gets in the Tour team and things get fruity with Froome even if I know this is very wishful thinking (the fruity bit) |

Machado had a really good Trentino,.
I can definitely see him taking 40 seconds per mountaintop finish on Wiggins, not taking bonus seconds into account.

Not sure about all the stages but I think stages 3 and 6 are likely the most challenging? Both the key climbs are around 5%, so unless there are any particular steep bits (?) an in shape Wiggins can probably hang in there or thereabouts. They're TT like climbs as far as I can see, diesel all the way up at one pace |

On last stage in Trentino Wiggins already matched Machado on the climb. And know he looks way improved. It'll honestly be other way around no way Machado will drop Wiggins here at all.

Either way I'm looking forward to watching it from the comfort of my bed - serious novelty value of late night live cycling |

I personally think this is a very easy win for Wiggins, probably besting the time gap Tejay had last year. The only thing that might happen is Wiggo may decide he doesn't need to blow everyone away on the climbs and is happy to just finish in the lead groups.

Final climb in 3D for today's stage
Steady stuff with just a wee kick right at the death (tiny red section at the end). |
