Yay, New Story of the Month nomination.
Updated Tom's stats post. +1 MO (72), +4 RES (68), +1 REC (69).
Also will try and get through Ardennes this weekend, but it's a very busy weekend. Might reduce down to just the hilly stage as a full report with the rest quick simmed. We'll see how it goes...
Oh, and watch out for the next blog (to come after Ardennes) as there is some big stuff in it

3rd April 2013
Hot Cakes
This is going to be a full on blog so strap in! Lots to get through, some of it incredibly important.
First up, Frank Vermeulen has taken the decision to retire at the end of the season. Frank has had a long career and he looks back on it with fondness. In his own words, "My legs are just not there anymore. I can finish off 2013 but i don't have the drive or the engine to do it after that." The current thinking is that Frank will stay around with the team in the future as a coach. I hope he enjoys his final season.
Second, Ian Van Achteren took the teams first GC win! He put in an incredibly strong ride in Belgium to seal a close fought battle. Great result. I'll admit i'm disappointed as i thought the first GC win would be mine, but oh well. Now i can just get more than one, then rub that in his face.
Third, is a change to my schedule. Currently i am down to race both the Tour de Finistere and Tro-Bro Leon, but this is no longer going to happen. At special request i will be away training with other groups, which i'll get to in a moment. It's not yet entirely clear what other races i'll do later in the season but i've got my eye on a few. And of course i'll update everything as soon as i know.
As i said i will be away after the Ardennes training with a couple of groups. Well following the Crit Int i received another message from David (Millar) to go training again. So i'll spend 6 days back in Spain with him and who ever else has time to drop in from the team. Then straight from there i am being flown down to Tenerife to do some time with Sky. I'll spend 6 days with them doing whatever, with whoever is there. Sky where trying to get hold of me after the Crit Int in person but i was hiding from them. I know they are successful and well funded but i'm not a fan. All there "revolutionary" ideas and methods just don't sit right. And of course there was Wiggins positive test, and multiple tests from the Sky support GB track team. I have this dodgy feeling about them. That said i will still go out there, but i will keep an eye open at all times and try and just do some riding rather than anything else.
Clearly i am hot property with at least two teams actively courting me. I can also say another two have been inquiring with my management people, TMM Sports Management, about my availability to talk next season. For now they will remain unnamed. Daniel Verbrackel and i are scheduled to have a chat straight after the Ardennes before i fly off, we will discuss these matters in detail then. So i don't have a lot to say right now.
I can't wait to go racing again, and am really hunting a win... if not for that damned TTT...

@ian
The company is taken from EPIC. And yeah it's kind of nice to annoy Sky.
Also... F*CK THIS DAMN GAME!!!!
Wait 7minutes to load stage (annoying but tolerable). Play stage until final climb. Suddenly a 64HL rider attacks, and no-one is able to counter... As in i tried to attack but the other rider was faster up a 7% slope for 3km. Bring him back somehow over the top. Place attack with 8km to go, caught with 2.5km (but full red bar left).
Follow first man past until 1km banner. Press sprint.... nothing.... still nothing.... still nothing.... Finish 24th with full red bar... Rage quit before game saves result....
Result of that being no report today as the game was just fucking ridiculous. Seriously fucking pissed off with PCM right now the broken piece of sh*t.
There's Tom (73 HL) and only two guys with 74 HL in the race. How can a 64 be so f'ing fast! How can said 74 HL rider chase hard for 15km and still sprint to win? HOW HOW HOW HOW HOW!!!

Having issues finding the motivation to load up 3D stages right now... Thanks to the changes with PCM13 it takes a minimum of 5 minutes, and as i said, if i click or hit a button it crashes the game...
So for the moment my focus is mostly on Twenty Four (a unique concept, detailing 24hours in exquisite style and detail). I hope i pick up the motivation to come back over the next few days, but it's equally likely i pack this one in () and think about how to fit non-3D'ing into a good quality story.
It sucks as i really like doing the small French races i never ride, and i really like Tom as character. I had some brilliant places to take this story and hope i can get over the 3D problem to continue it. So yeah, no updates for a few more days at least.

Hope you will find your motivation back. It's weird, some people do have heavy loading time issues with PCM13, while others (like me) don't feel that way. It takes longer than 12, yeah, but five minutes... That's indeed frustrating! Don't know if it's the settings or the stages, as i'm only playing self-made stages with PCM13, but i hope you will find a solution for either the loading or your way of handling the waiting

Well when i first had the game the loading time was not too bad. Then i downloaded a couple of real-name DB's and it slowed a bit. Then a larger DB with more features and it really slowed up.
I could lower the settings to 0, currently mostly on 1, but then there is no details at all and it's really boring to play the stages, which causes other motivational issues...
Happens with all stages, original, Daily, or self-made.
My solution so far has been watching music videos on my phone, but it's not a good solution.

Ok to conclude this, i am going to close up this story
Above issues taken into hand with a few other things. I started a new part-time job today which is 24-30 hours a week, i have taken over yet another role with my Handball team and coursework starts coming at an alarming rate from here on in.
Nothing to do with a loss of motivation as such, but i can't make it work within my time constraints if i have to wait 5 minutes minimum to load a stage. It's just a real killer. Wasn't a long time to come to the conclusion but i didn't need a long time. I'd rather cut it quickly now and focus on finding a way around using 3D.
Already got an idea on that, just need to work out the details.
I guess i could try and stick with this a bit longer if people really care. Let me know what you think if you like. Nothing is set in stone until i delete the save file... which, based on the past, could be as soon as June 2014 or as late as July 2014...

I'd like to see this continue, but only you can make that decision. And if loading times are up to 5 minutes, we can't ask that of you... |
