Now moving to February, it is time for 1st decisions:
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/Banner_zps3daaa866.jpg

3 of our riders would like to renew their contracts:
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/Hamilt_zpsf0961dde.jpgi1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/Hamilton_zps6295c93c.jpgi1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/Ham_zps9528069d.jpg

So which one to renew and who should we let go?

As far as February is concerned we have sill be refused from many races but our program still looks good, with our 3 teams competing at a time or at another.
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/Planning1302_zpsa4d2dd34.jpg

So let's start in South of France in south of France with:
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/EtoiledeBesseges_zpsfc8b7928.jpg

Objectives

- 1 win stage or GC whatever, just need to win for the 1st time this season
- Top 3
- KoM

Key Stages

Stage 2
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/StageEdB2_zps7f47dad4.jpg
We got Mazich who is wearing the KoM jersey in the break, he finishes it far away but with a 6 points lead in the KoM classification.

When comes the final climbs, Gerdemann benefits from the break to be caught to accelerate. Unfortunately Dumoulin keeps his wheel and does not relay.
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/EdB21_zpsee24d6e8.png

Plus he is a the best sprinter of the race, so
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/EdB22_zps6cad5d90.png

Stage5
Nothing has changed until the last hill stage, but Dumoulin getting the 10’’ win bonus to increase his lead to 14’’.

Gerdemann has to try something so in the final, he attacks and create a significant gap
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/EdB51_zps567678d1.png

Could he hold it? Well

Still no sweet water to drink: the winning draught goes on!
Nice race though with a good top 10 for Loutit as a small bonus.

@ sutty68 I am not worried... yet but it might come Embarassed

I would only extend Hamilton.
And appart from the not winning you get some very nice results

I'd extend hamilton and drop huff, then I'd probably look at giving dickerson 1 more year depending on how he does over the season and on how transfers are going.

@ all: nice to see everyone is in line Smile

@ sammyt93: welcome to this thread, hope you will enjoy it Wink

So I'll renew Hamilton for 2 years and will let the two others know that they will have to look for a new team next season.

Meanwhile in Qatar, the team was looking for his 1st success... Full report for this big race as well as for the Tour Mediterraneen which is coming next.

Stage 1 - Prologue

“Jonathan you are second favorite to world champion Martin. So you have nothing to loose here! Jurgen, you are our man for an expected Top 10 overall. It will be a question of seconds so don’t loose any, or just 1 if you have too.”

Castroviejo crossed the line in the same time as Veelers, but this time he is credited with the best time. Smile

Then comes the man.
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/TdQ1_zpsf4eabd92.png

So we end up with another 2nd place... (I am too depressed to count how many we've got so far)

Stage 2 – Flat

Big wind today. Keukeleire received good help from his team mate Docker to create a small gap. Sagan couldn’t do anything. Roelandts takes Goss’s wheel and couldn’t pass him on the line. No favorite looses time today.

Stage 3 – Flat

“Competition is huge here so let’s play two cards: Jonathan you try to collect intermediate bonus, Jurgen you save yourself for the final sprint”

Castroviejo collects the points for the 1st bonus after a big work from Hagman.

Final sprint is very hard with the wind, if you don’t take the right wheel from the beginning and are lucky enough to keep it then you are screwed. That what happens to Roelandts today.

By the way, here is the strongest man and probable overall winner.

Castroviejo collects another 3’’ bonus. As a bonus Gasparotto who is down more than 3’ minutes in GC creates a gap in the final and win the stage.

Castroviejo’s gap to the lead still increase as Gross win the mass sprint for second place. He now ranks 3rd at +8’’ but passes Sagan for 2’’.

“Same tactic again. Jurgen also try to collect 2’’, that would move you into the Top 10.”

Our team couldn’t control all the attacks and Castroviejo could only claim a 1’’ bonus today.

Goss still managed to get a podium place and increase his lead. Castroviejo is 3’’ from 2nd place and 3’’ ahead of Sagan's 4th.

On the first intermediate, things went great: Castroviejo passed 1st and Roelandts second. So we are now tight in 2nd place with Keukeleire.

Then a breakaway went and soon enough it was the final sprint.

Stage 1 – hilly

A windy stage so no big breakaway has developed.

With 30 kilometres to go Meeusen attacks alone and the Cofidis and Europcar are becoming short of fresh man to chase.

With 15 kilometres Meeusen still got more than 2 minutes and the gap is reducing very slowly. So we decide to run as hard as possible with Powers and Dickeson. With about 10 kilometers to go, they run out of power but have reduced the gap to less than 1’. Also the bunch is very stretched when Gerdemann attacks.

By the time the chase is re-organised, Gerdemann has joined Meeusen and created a gap of 45’’.

Of course Meeusen is not relaying, but Gerdemann has no choice with the pack closing the gap. Will he finish second once more?
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/TMed11_zps377373d1.png

Not this time, Meeusen cannot pass him in the sprint, so we finally get our first season win!

Stage 2 – Flat

“Congrates for this season’s first! Now the objective should be the overall win. Alastair, you go for KoM”.

Loutit has collected the Mountain points and has now a very comfortable lead.

With 8 kilometers to go, Gerdemann attacks. He enjoys one of this magic moment that allows him to create a nice gap.
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/TMed21_zps181dd033.png

Plus today’s finish was not flat, down and up and down again. That was close
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/TMed22_zps355bb167.png

but after the such a long draught we might very well end up flowed by success! I hadn’t the heart to blame Loutit for his early celebration in the middle of his sprint…

Stage 4 – Hilly

“Linus watch Devenyns closely; he is strong with a strong team and favorite. Alastair got for the Mountain points at the beginning of the stage, then all the team should help Linus.”

Loutit has now secured the KoM but suddenly Devenyns attacks with 30 kilometres to go ! And all the other favorites counter rather than help the chasing. Our team does his best running full speed at the front of the bunch but alone. And we are catching only poor riders while the gap is now extending to almost 1’.

So I ask Loutit to also run full speed. Doing so he reduces the gap to 30’’ when Gerdemann has to take over. And with 15 kilometers to go, he joins the front group.

But Devenyns attacks again. Gerdemann does not wait and immediately rides full spead. With 10 kilometres to the line the front group is reformed but Gerdemann feals tired. He let other riders counters the numerous attacks and position well for the final sprint.

But Devenyns is just too strong and he creates a small gap while Gerdemann finishes exhausted in the middle of the front group.

“Linus, a 27’’ lead to Devenyns is nothing with the Mont Faron to climb. Attack from the bottom and hope or the best…”

No one can say that Gerdemann does not listen to advise.
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/TMed51_zpscaab3183.png

But when Devenyns counters he had not enough power left to do anything, but stick with the second group.
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/TMed52_zps08431c5e.png

Gerdemann was really mad at me after the race arguing that with this wind he should just have kept Devenyns’ wheel. I am still confident that he couldn’t and if Devenyns had attacked late in the climb he could have even lost the second place given the strong men competing here. But we will never know for sure…

Good result in France, a shame you got the 2nd place in the GC

duxili
@ Abelbaba: yes! 2nd place in GC is logical, Gerdemann wasn't the strongest. Still 2 victories in a row after almost 4 months with no victory tasts very sweet.

i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/mumbai-cyclothon-ist-das-erste-profi-radrennen-in-indien_zps58c14958.jpg

“The profile fits our team very well and competition is once again beatable. Jurgen you wait for the final sprint. Tomas and Jonathan you can attack in the final if you got the opportunity.”

With 11 kilometers to go, Alberio counters an attack but couldn’t create a big gap. Castroviejo attacks in the up hill section just after and does create a gap. He got a chaser coming back to his wheel and the mad men closing the gap.

But clearly the chaser lacks power. In the bunch, Roelandts is cornered and cannot sprint well so all our hopes lies on Castroviejo’s shoulders. And he has good very solid shoulders today!

Objectives

Fresh start for Nerz and Ovechkin but being in South Amercia with probably weak competition we should target:
- Overall win + Top 10 or Top 3 + Top 5
- 2 stages win
- Points or Mountain jersey

Key stages

Stage 1 – Flat
May be flat but not that easy. A rather strong breakaway makes it (we should have chased earlier despite Hamilton being in the break). Nerz and Ovechkin lost 45’’ to Jacques-Maynes who may well keep the yellow for a while.

Stage 5 – Hilly
Very strong wind and very strong break with riders (but more than 3’ down in GC) such as Mancebo, Atapuma and the leading KoM Gualtero. As it is more than 200 kilometers long we decided not to chase right away.

We still have done most of the job. When Nerz attacks with a little less than 20 kilometers to go Mancebo and Atapuma are out of reach.

Of course the strong men all counters and Ovechkin couldn’t follow. He will do all the job to limit the bunch time lost on the stage.

At the front Mancebo easily resists for a solo victory (he still is 3’30 down in GC) and Nerz hardly catches and outsprints Atapuma with all favorites closing on him. Nerz is now 2nd in GC 16’’ behind Jacques-Maynes and 40’’ ahead Dockx and Pliuschin.

Stage 7 – ITT
Ovechkin is 3rd favorite behind Pliuschin and Host. The stage is not flat and he is not starting quick enough loosing 22’’ to Hoste in the 1st intermediate. He definitely accelerates but comes short for 4’’. No regret as Pliuschin lowers the time by an extra 12’’.

The stage was also very important for Nerz who needed to take more time before the Mountain stage and if possible to grab the yellow jersey. His intermediate his poor too but he is also loosing more ground to the end. He crosses the line 13th.

That proves to be enough to grab the yellow for… 0’’! And only 5’’ on Pliuschin. Dockx is a dangerous man at 31’’, Ovechkin is now ranking 5th at 1’28 with several good climber just behind him.

Stage 9 – Mountain
With the summit far from the line, it was vital that Nerz can stick with the best. We let a break go with Hamilton grabing some points early in the stage and finishing the stage 2 points behind new leader Mancebo.

Mancebo indeed attacks in the big climb and finishes the job for his second stage win. Behind Ovechkin does a great job controlling the attacks so no change in the GC.
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/VIN9_zpscc0bcb4c.png

Stage 10 – Hills
i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/StageVIN10_zps2c7ec74e.jpg

So everything will be decided in the last climb of the last stage: Jacques-Maynes at 0’’, Pliuschin at 5’’ and Dockx at 55’’ and second favourite today are the men to watch.

Early stage Hamilton grabs all the points he needs to secure a KoM. In the last hill, Nerz is attacked again and again. So when Miller has no power left he put himself at the front of the bunch and gives it all. Unfortunately 4 riders stick with him including Dockx but with the arrival so near no time to think. He has not enough in the tank to get the stage win but still he could keep the wheels.

@ all: YEEEES, it tastes even sweeter after a long period of 2nd places and podium Wink

@ The Rider: Hard to say if we have a chance to be promoted: we are still in the early season (February) with very WT raced so far and the way I designed the season is to race a lot with fresh and well trained riders at the beginning... For the time being we rank 2nd Continental team in World very close to the 1st one. So we might be in the race? I've plan to do a wrap up end of April (I delay it 1 month as few races in Jan and so I can do it end of July instead of end of June not to mix it with season transfer Wink)

With an hilly profile in the middle, all the team has to work to keep Roelandts at the front without him working hard at any time. And so we did, except for the 2 breakaway guys who fight for the win. Then Roelandts takes Rojas’ wheel. Good choice, except he couldn’t follow.

Very poor choice of race from my part Sad

i1318.photobucket.com/albums/t651/duxili/Samyn11_zps83464dc3.jpg

When not in the favorite list, Roelandts started the day a little bit depressed. However the team has done a great job with Hagman in protection and maintaining a dangerous break below the 1’ lead.

Then Bretagne Schuller takes the lead probably for Vaiktus, the race favorite. Roelandts steals Coyot’s wheel assuming he is the strong guy to follow. Suddenly a lot of riders are coming from the back but no Vaitkus, but with 1.2 km to go, Roelandts has no time to think and launches his sprint.

Stage 1 – Prologue

“Jonathan, this is your day, you have to win here! And then you’ll have to learn how to pronounce the race’s name. Jurgen it is vital you loose no time.”

Castroviejo was the 1st favorite to ride and he crosses the gap with 5’’ lead. A huge gap on this 2 km prologue !

But all our hopes have been crushed when Bobridge fnishes in the same time but 1st place. Ista, manages to lower the best time by 1’’. Roelandts does well despite loosing a few sec to Ista, Grabsch and Traksel.

Stage 2 – Flat & Cooblestones

“Jonathan you try to stick with the best. Jurgen you save yourself for the final sprint. If bonus can easily be grabbed just do it.”

Cofidis and then Landbouwkrediet did all the job to catch back the breakaway and launch the sprint. The wind is very heavy and Roelandts stays in Traksel’s wheel until the 800 metres. Perfect tactic !

With a 3’’ lead over Traksel it will be hard to keep the yellow tomorrow.

Stage 3 - Flat & Cooblestones

“Ideally we want a breakaway to win but with not enough margin to threaten Jurgen’s lead.”

We let the break go but when a rider less than 1’ down in GC attacks in the final, we had to react and Castroveijo has reduced the gap…

A little too much as the sprinters passed the break. Roelandts kept Traksel’s wheel again. But couldn’t do more. So disappointing result….
