Great news:
McQuaid quite sure not to be re-elected. A nomination of 2 countries is only valid if 2/3 of all countries agree. This is not the case, meaning there can't be a nomination for McQuaid

I believe that there will still be a vote before the election, about the changing of Article 51.1, which if it went through would still allow McQ to run

I can't read Dutch so I'm just going from memory here. The way I understand the whole 2 countries thing is that it isn't a rule yet, but rather it is a constitutional amendment that is being proposed. Constitutional amendements can only pass with a 2/3 majority of delegates (or possibly of board members, I can't remember which but delegates would make more sense IMO). So it is possible (though I admit unlikely) that 2/3 of countries could vote for the amendment but McQuaid would still not get the 50% of votes that he needs to be elected.

I meant that 2/3 of the countries had to agree with the nominations. Also, Barbados (of all countries) has now made a proposal that the sitting leader should always be a candidate.

That's a terrible rule, but if it stops McQuaid then that's fine. Just like I have no problem, in principle, with the sitting president being automatically nominated. In fact I think having a president who isn't specifically tied to any one nation would probably be a good thing in terms of the global governance of the sport. I just think that these things should be implemented properly and with actual debate in executive meetings.

Its Great news as long as McQuaid doesn't change another rule for his own benefit |

What I'd like is that they'd stick to their own rules and stop rewriting them at their own benefit each time they see they're going to be screwed by their own rules.
Let's face it, McQuaid shouldn't be candidate at all from the moment his own federation didn't back him up, nor his residence country.
That being said, even if he's not a legit candidate, I'm ready for a Putin-esque victory by McQuaid, who won't miss the opportunity to claim a democratic voice like the one of his re-election is always a good thing. |

It's a shame he never quite managed a GT jersey.
He got me into cycling, I'll miss him.

Did a Formula driver bought Euskaltel's Pro Tour Licence? Then wants Conti to ride too?
