Final Giro Stages!!
Stage 19
Today is another mountain stage. It is only a gradual mountain though so I might do better today.
The Race
The early breakaway
Haussler took the points ahead of McEwen and Goss.
Before start of the mountain the leading group of 2 had 3.57 on the peloton.
Dan Martin attacked at the start of the mountain.
With 45km to go there was no breakaway out front.
With 10km to go there was a group of 13 favourites in front of everyone else.
With 5km to go I attacked.
And guess who wins again. That’s right Scarponi.
Rujano got 2nd and Nibali 3rd. I got 5th place.

Today was a good race. Unfortunately I lost time to Scarponi but not Nibali. I think I have finished and will get 3rd though.

Overall a good race. I got 3rd overall and won 3 stages. Zebriskie even won a stage (Final TT). I think we had the best Giro we could. I don’t race for a few months now and I am back for the Dutch Valley Food Classic.
Seeya then

Wow the end was fast.
Third is very good for Ryder, especially if you look at who else is on the podium! Well done! |

Great to see Ryder grab a podium finish
Pity he couldn't get past Nibali though for that runners up spot |

Yeh pretty much.
And the first race back (Dutch Valley Food classic) Hesjedal will be a pure domestic for the sprinter.
P.S. it isn't in the schedule cause I stuffed up the schedule so I will try to post an updated one for the 2nd half of the season soon.
Edit: and thanks Kriss

National Championships
Individual Time Trial
USA ITT
Today it was David Zebriskie of the Garmin – Cervelo team that took the win. He won by 54 seconds to team mate Christian Vande Velde who is the big favourite for the road race as he is in fantastic form at the moment.
Netherlands ITT
Lieuwe Westra took the win today by only 14 seconds to Jose Van Emden. Joost Pasthuma managed to grab 3rd place 41 seconds behind the winner. Lieuwe Westra is a definite possibility to take the NC double.
Belgium ITT
Maxime Monfort takes another national championship win with the ITT. He is great in this discipline and won by 41 seconds to Stijn Devolder. Jurgen Van den Broeck rounds out the podium finishing 46 seconds behind.
French ITT
The winner is Jerome Coppel winning by over a minute to Dimitri Champion and Benoit Vaugrenaud.
German ITT
Kloden takes the win by only 23 seconds to Tony Martin and 41 to Linus Gerdemann. This was unexpected as Martin was the big favourite to win but Kloden showed that age doesn’t matter and took a great win.
Road Race
French RR
Belgium RR
Netherlands RR
German RR
USA RR
That wraps up the National Championship campaign for the team. A more updated list of the champions will be up shortly. Seeya at the start of next season for the Aus Champs.

Tour de France
Week 1
The Tour de France started off with the flat stages as usual. Leopard Trek’s Danielle Bennati took the lead early when Leopard-Trek won the TTT by 17 seconds to Rabobank. Then Cavendish took a win. He won ahead of Farrar and Bennati. Gilbert took his second win of the first week in style with both flat stages (with the hills at the end, Stages 1 and 4). Cancellara had taken over the lead now. Cavendish took his 2nd of many wins in stage 5. Farrar got another 2 podium by coming 3rd. Stage 6 was another win for the Manx Missile. He is dominating the sprints now. Stage 7 saw Cavendish take win number 4. He is already leading the points by 100 points. Gilbert took win number 7 on the first real hilly stage with the finishing climb the Super Besse Sancy. The worst thing happened today. Vande Velde was forced to pull out because of a fractured knee-cap. Our new leader is Christophe Le Mevel. Gilbert takes 2 in a row with win number 4. He is really starting to dominant (like Cavendish).
Rest Day
Today is the rest day and I am here to talk a bit about what you have missed while the Tour de France has been on. Well firstly the transfer season has started and all the teams are keen to get some top riders into their squads. Garmin Cervelo’s manager, Jonathon Vaughters, has said that we can release the few riders we have signed so here they are.
The Belgium Cobbler
The Cobblers Team Mate
The Swiss Puncheur
Well there are our 3 signings so far. We are currently in talks with a few more riders but we will cover that in the next 2 rest day posts. Anyway it is now back to the Tour de France where the team has lost their leader, Vande Velde, and now is working for Le Mevel. Let’s see how that works out for them.

Week 2
Guess what. Gilbert makes it a hat trick with 3 wins in a row and an overall tally of 5 wins. He is now 2nd overall, 30 seconds behind Frank Schleck. Cav matches 5 wins with taking another in stage 11. Contador starts his assault in stage 12 where he takes the win. The overall is tight in the top 4. Evans leads by 7 seconds to Andy Schleck, 14 seconds to Contador and 18 seconds to Frank Schleck. Le Mevel has just broke into the top 10. Stage 13 sees Contador win again. Schleck takes the overall and is now only 7 seconds ahead of the overall favourite (Contador). Stage 14 is the Australian Cadel Evans’ first win and defence of the overall. He takes it back and leads by 23 seconds to Schleck. Cavendish takes win number 6 with a great sprint into Montpellier. He now leads points by almost 150 points.
Rest Day 2
Hello again. Like I said on the last rest day I am here to catch you up on other races, transfers and well of course Christian Vande Velde. First up is the Tour of Qinghai Lake. We have Daniel Martin there leading the team and he isn’t doing a bad job. He is coming 5th overall only 1.15 behind the leader with 3 hill stages, 1 mountain stage and a TT left to go (plus 2 flat stages) He hasn’t won a stage here yet but he is the favourite to win overall. If you think he can do it send an email to (aka the website PM). Now to transfers. Like I said last time the team manager is looking to get a stronger team for next season and I think the fans of the sprinters will like this next signing. Here he is.
The Spanish Champion
Last but not least we are going to check up on Christian Vande Velde. The team doctor has confirmed he won’t be back racing for until at least the middle of September. He is recovering quickly and was able to go home to see his wife and 2 daughters. They were very concerned with his wife stating “I saw the crash on TV and was horrified when I saw him lying on the ground. He was in tears because he knew he was close to the end of his career and was one of the best shots he had of winning the biggest race of the year. He is now back home and it is like taking care of 3 kids now. He is always calling me and watching the race over and over to find out what he did wrong. He is doing all he can to support the team and give Christophe some tips but there isn’t much you can do when you don’t get off the couch. Well I guess I should wrap it up and say good luck to the team at the Tour”. A sad ending to Vande Velde’s Tour de France for 2012. Hopefully when he comes back he will be ready to bounce back and win some races for the team. I will go now and you can enjoy the coverage of the final week of the Tour de France.
The Garmin Reporter
P.S. oh and Ryder told me to say that he is going out for the last stage and that it will be reported from the circuit in Paris.

Week 3
Andy Schleck won stage 16 and took the overall for the 2nd time. He leads by 32 seconds to Evans. Wiggins takes a win in stage 17. The overall lead change hands again. Contador has stolen it back and leads by 4 seconds Andy Schleck. Contador extends his lead with a win going up the Col du Galibier. He now leads by more than a minute to Schleck. Andy’s last ditch effort was on the Alpe-d’Huez. He won the stage by 16 seconds to Contador which isn’t enough. Contador has 54 seconds on Schleck going into the TT. Contador was never going to lose the Tour. In fact He even one the stage ahead of the Swiss Giant. Contador won by 3.03 to Andy and 5.08 to Cadel. Now we are onto the final stage and we join the action with 10km to go.
With 2.5km to go Hushovd and Farrar was in a pretty good position.
No one could match the Manx Missile. He takes another win and adds it to his tally.

Not a bad race for the team but not the best either. We were without a win and didn't get a top 10. Vande Velde had to abandon due to first week crashes so Le Mevel took charge. He did well to work his way into the top 15. Farrar got a few podiums and everyone did the best they could without the talent and leadership of Vande Velde. Next year is Vande Velde's last shot at the tour. Let's hope he has the luck and of course the ability.
