I feel bad for Simunek. He deserves to be NC more than Stybar, imo (in the field, obviously) |

He probably will. Only 1 race left and third place is enough for him. So far he's ridden podium on almost every race this season.
@felix
That's because the race wasn't very difficult. No mud, no sand only a few hills. I'm suprised none of the races ended in a sprint. It was still a typical 'Mathieu van der Poel'-win. Attacking in the first lap and then staying away.
On the subject, he continues his winning streak. 22/22
Make that 23/23 because he wins the Dutch national championships for Juniors. His older brother David wins in the u23 category.

I know what you mean, but Simunek would be chanceless even without Stybar racing this year, as he had a technical problems and quited from the race.
Bina with 2nd is nice, he is returing from the long health problems, what a talent he was. Also third Nipl looks like a talented guy for the future.

proprobly because Belgian ruled Cyclo-Cross for years, with only resistance from Boom and Stybar, domination can become boring

@fcancellara Is that a surprise?
I don't watch Cyclocross, but I think V/d Poel disappointed. I mean, just 34 seconds ahead, instead of the 1minute+ he got in almost every other race

So Hoogerheide is the last race before the World Championships in Louisville ( ). I'm really looking forward to it. The Juniors will race on Saturday, the 2nd of February at 11h00 o'clock (17h00 for viewers from the Netherlands and Belgium). On the same day the U23 race starts at 14h30 (20h30). The Women will race on the 3rd of February at 11h00 (17h00) and the Elite Men at 14h30 (20h30).
The track looks like this. The weather forecast is changing all the time (and it's still 2 weeks to go). It could be dry it could be snowy, who knows.

Favourites
For most categories it should be clear who's the big favourite.
Junior
Spoiler Without a doubt Mathieu van der Poel should win this. He's won every race he participated in this season. His lap times indicate he would be just as good (or even better) than the best U23 riders. The battle for second place should be more exciting. Home rider Logan Owen has shown great form lately. Together with Quinten Hermans , Martijn Budding and Gioele Bertolini this could be a nice battle. Other guys to watch are Yannick Peeters, Kobe Goossens, Nicolas Cleppe (all ), Curtis White , Clément Russo and perhaps Marco König and Dominic Grab .

U23 Men
Spoiler Wietse Bosmans has dominated the World Cup races and should be the big favourite for this race. The Dutch and Belgian riders have dominated the U23 categories this season, so the favourites are from that country. European Champion Mike Teunissen could pose a threat, together with his countrymen David van der Poel, Corné van Kessel and Michiel van der Heijden. Bosmans also has some strong teammates in Gianni Vermeersch, Belgian Champion Laurens Sweeck, Jens Adams and Wout Van Aert. Julian Alaphilippe is also someone to watch. In snowy conditions Czech riders Michael Boros and Vojtech Nipl (both )could be in the mix too. And who knows, maybe some of the American riders will surprise in their own country like Andrew Dillman.

Women
Spoiler Despite the fact that Compton won the World Cup, the big favourite for this race should be Marianne Vos . She started late in the season, thus missed a couple of races. Lately her form is improving so it'll be near impossible to beat her over 2 weeks. Other ladies to watch are Sanne Cant , Katerina Nash , Helen Wyman, Nikki Harris (both ), Sanne van Paassen , Eva Lechner , Jasmin Achermann Christel Ferrier-Bruneau and Lucie Chainel-Lefevre (both )

Elite Men
Spoiler After a long and hard season it should be clear that's there's only one country that could win this race: Belgium . Finishing 1-7th in last years World Championships was a performace that's seldom seen. This season hasnt been different during the World Cup, Bpost Bank Trofee and Superprestige races. With the exception of Hoogerheide, every race was won by a Belgian rider. The big 4 of this season were: Sven Nys, Niels Albert, Kevin Pauwels and Klaas Vantornout. That doesn't necessarily mean that a Belgian rider will win it. U23 Champion Lars van der Haar already showed that he can keep up with the Belgian superstars in some races. He should be their main threat. Julien Taramarcaz , Francis Mourey and Thijs van Amerongen have put down some good results. Jeremy Powers will be looking for a good result too on home soil. Bina and Simunek (both might surprise everyone too, especially if the conditions are snowy.

True that. Though the last race that mattered for Albert and most other riders was Hoogerheide. |
