12.9 km at 8.5% average
I climbed it last August, in less than one hour. The first part is not that tough, but there's a killer part with 3 or 4 km to go. One km at 11% or something like that, passing between trees in front of an inn.
We were wondering how the hell Riis used his big front ring to attack there (I wanted to have fun and managed to pass it too and attacked a little with it ops: ).

Hmm, the Ullrich-case might be closed this year, the counsel for the prosecution says. Ullrich has said that he's willing to pay a fine to get the case closed, but the prosecuter didn't find the offer good enough. Or, well, the offer was good enough if Ullrich also admitted to have doped himself. If he do that he can be let off.
Other news? Amsterdam might be the host of the start of the Giro in 2010. Actually, it's very, very likely that it's going to happen.
UCI is going to make a new "blood passport". The blood passport will show 5 different blood values which are normal for the rider. If the rider's values differ from the ones in the blood passport it will be the same as a positive test. This also means the end of the 50 % hematocrite level, since the riders will now each have an individual level.
UCI is hoping to get the system working before the Tour de France next year.

if nothing else, that will end the days of micro-dosaging.
for those who might not be familiar with it, micro-dosaging is a simple concept:
if the limit is 50%, keep doping until you reach 49. you're doped, it's not a positive test, and there's nothing anyone can do about it. which is what pretty much every doped rider is doing at some level.

Now what will happen if they're all Riis-like doped up riders when they'll have their values datas registered ? They'll never go above those values any more and will never risk anything ?
Or does it work on the way down too ?

that's the point behind it: either they never dope or they're permanently doped...which your body can't handle.

Also, it's actually theoratically possible for Floyd Landis to participate in Tour de France 2008. As you know, the TdF will not be a part of the Pro Tour next year. It will still be organized by ASO and, most possibly, with the French Cycling Federation. If the French Federation cooperates with ASO, it will be excluded by the UCI (according to McQuaid), and this means that the race will not be a part of UCI in any way. And since Landis' exclusion only counts for UCI-registered races, it's possible for him to take part in the Tour de France next year
However, the French Anti Doping Agency is already looking for a way to close the backdoor, though
Speaking of doping, Manolo Saiz has said that he's looking to return to the cyclng world. |
