Q: The fans and sponsors well sure like that result, fantastic ride.
A: Thank you, I kind of got lucky with the lap riders slowing down the peloton but the team needed this result heading into a star packed Amgen Tour of California with Contador and Andy Schleck on the start list.
This will be the sixth edition of America’s greatest stage race, and it’s certainly the toughest and most spectacular one yet. With riders like Alberto Contador, the Schleck brothers, and the American climbers on RadioShack many are saying the Tour of California has tougher competition than here than at the Giro. Event owner, Andrew Messick, had this to say about the route, “We’ve got three stages that are real sprinter stages, two stages that are climber stages, the time trial obviously, and then two stages where a good all-arounder should do very well.”
Gustav Erik Larsson won last year's edition, so here we are to defend our crown. But this time the other Swed Lofkvist will try his best to compete with some crazy hard competitors. To make things more interesting EA is looking for the team to win the tour after setting goals at the start of the year, and this goal was top on their list. So the Sweden RR Champion has his work cut out for him if he wants to keep the sponsors happy.
We will find the contenders from pretenders right here on stage 1.
Tejay leads the peloton over the first climb and the home fans love that.

Johan Vansummeren leads the breakaway over climb 2.
The breakaway looks strong 9 minute lead with 90kms to go.

and it's back to the peloton.
Another hard crash, this time it's Chris Froome.

With the breakaway in sight Cancellara goes for a third time,
Talansky is still right there on his wheel.
The final climb starts, Lofkvist attacks and is right up to Talansky
and the morning breakaway.
Soon it's just Lofkvist out front, 2kms to the summit.

It's not just the climbers that have stiff competition,
the sprints should provide some excitement
with Mark Cavendish, Thor Hushovd, and EBH.
14 riders including Richard Ackerman are in the opening attacks.
The peloton isn't happy with that,
so Ackerman gets away with Thomas Degand and Pieter Ghyllebert.
Ackerman grabs the 6 points on top.
They are joined by Stuart O'Grady on the long downhill.
They struggle to work together, so Alessandro Ballan comes across the gap.
Ballan helps the group get a 4 minute lead.
And then he really starts to up the tempo,
Degand and Ghyllebert can't hang on.
O'Grady goes solo with 30kms to go.
Sky and HTC are doing all the work,
and these ProTour teams are setting a ProTour tempo.
O'Grady had no chance, everyone is caught with 6kms to go.
Everyone is fighting for Cavendish's back wheel.
Manx Missle goes right down the middle,
Talansky gets squezzed by Hushovd,
and surprisingly Van Garderen is sprinting well.
The God of Thunder punishes Cavendish for kicking to early to steal the win.
Cav holds on for 2nd, and Andrew Talansky, in great form, takes 3rd.
Beating ProTour sprinters EBH and Juan José Haedo.

Q: A nice top 3, how different is it sprinting with world class riders in Cavendish and Hushovd?
A: Well it's not just them it is the team they bring as well. You see more of an effort in sprint trains, for example Sky had a great train but Boasson Hagen got pushed off of it by Cav. And I just happened to be on his wheel at the time and went straight to the front. Hopefully the same happens tomorrow.

Round 2 Between Hushovd and Cavendish,
or maybe Talansky can surprise everyone again.
There is a surprise, Talansky wins the first sprint point
without a breakaway getting away. The 6 bonus seconds
move Talansky into 2nd overall.
By the next sprint point there is a breakaway,
however EA-Sony decides not to put a man in it.
So it's Sky, HTC, and EA doing all the work today.
By the last sprint point their lead is still 3 minutes.
So with 20kms to go Cancellara and Ballan
don't have faith in the peloton to bring them back.
So they attack.
But it turns out to be a silly move, HTC and Sky do great work
and bring everyone back with 6kms to go.
Sky and HTC setup for the sprint,
Hushovd attaches himself to the back of EBH's Sky train.
So we near the 1km to go banner Talansky gets blocked in
by a Sky member who just completed his turn on the front.
In the meantime Hushovd is the first to launch.
With Hushovd fading Hagen decides to back his move,
Cavendish is quick to react.
Cavendish easily goes around Hushovd,
but does he have the speed to reach Hagen.
Cav is right there ...
And makes the pass.
Mark Cavendish makes up for his mistake yesturday
and proves once again he is the fastest man on two wheels.

Q: What happened during the sprint today?
A: I got blocked in and had no where to go. It's not like I can ride through riders, I'm just lucky I saw him in time otherwise that could have been a huge crash. With some better positioning I probably could have avoid what happened, but I can't do anything now.
