You're an awesome PCM player, such great results with Skil. Smile Very good win with Huguet, plus a top-10 and the mountain jersey, that sure is a positive Paris-Nice. Wink

We're sending most of our best cobblers here. Veelers will as always be our main man, but De Backer and Curvers will also have free roles. And who knows if De Kort feels for trying another long-range attack?

* Guesdon. Rosseler, Scheirlinckx

De Waele, Traksel, Scheirlinckx - Landbouwkrediet certainly has a lot of cards to play with here. De Waele is normally the strongest of them, and will therefore be the main favourite here.
The ones who should be able to challenge the Landbouwkrediet team are mainly Veelers and Rosseler. It'll be an interesting race.

Nokere - Nokere
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/nk_1.jpg
A quite flat course, but it will be hard enough anyway. Eleven cobbled sections, with the last one being the whole final kilometer, including the uphill sprint. That will be dramatic. In addition to all this, the weather is forecasted to be terrible. Poor riders.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/nk_2.jpg
We took command in the peloton early and reduced the peloton to about 60 riders when we hadn't even got halfway into the race.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/nk_3.jpg
Nothing more happened until we reached Nokere for the final time. Curvers were at the front using his last bit of energy to give Veelers a small leadout.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/nk_4.jpg
Veelers followed an early surge from Scheirlinckx as soon as we hitted the cobbles. Was he trying to set up something for his team mates?

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/nk_5.jpg
Apparently. Traksel came from behind and stormed to victory in the uphill sprint. Veelers tried to respond, but realised that it was impossible. He still held off the race for second place though.

La Primavera - the longest of all monument classics. The trip from central Milano to the finish line on the Lungomare in San Remo doesn't look that hard when looking at the profile, but 300 kilometers at a high pace makes the race hard enough. The race is usually won by a sprinter, but a powerful attack up the Poggio or possibly even the Cipressa might destroy the party for the sprinters. It's definitely worth it's title of being a monument.

Skil squad:
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_t.jpg
A strengthened Geschke and Van Hummel will lead us here. Docker will be a luxury team mate and possibly get a free role depending on how he feels.
Geniez and Bonnin are here mostly to build up form for upcoming races and will be domstiques together with Van Zandbeek, Chaigneau and Han.
Our sponsors are expecting a Top 3 finish, which will be very hard to achieve with the team we have. Unfortunately Kittel isn't in shape and decides to skip this race in favour for others. With him in the squad we would have a chance. Now it's almost impossible.

Favourites:
***** Hushovd
**** Gilbert, Rojas
*** Cancellara, Pozzato, Sagan
** Cavendish, Cunego, Marcato, Vaitkus
* Farrar, Breschel, Thomas, Van Avermaet, Greipel

A lot of great sprinters on the startlist, but I'm not sure that all of them can handle such long, hard race like this. Hushovd definitely can and will be the man to beat.
Gilbert, Rojas, Cancellara, Sagan and Pozzato will be his main challengers, all capable of staying up front in this kind of races.
Surprisingly, HTC has left an in-shape Goss at home and are going all in for Cavendish instead. Will be interesting to see if he, Farrar, Greipel and the other pure sprinters are able to survive the final hills.

Milano - San Remo
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_1.jpg
Feels like the race is endless. Even in PCM it takes a looooooong time to play it. The sprinters are likely to battle it out for the victory on the Lungomare in San Remo. Will Van Hummel be one of them? Hopefully. Let's bring it on!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_2.jpg
Geniez in the brekaway today along with four others: Nieve (Euskaltel), Degenkolb (HTC), Duarte (Geox) and Dockx (OmegaPharma).

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_3.jpg
Geniez lead his companions over the top of the Turchino. The gap back to the peloton had stabilized at around 10 minutes.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_4.jpg
The peloton splitted up Le Manie, with a lot of riders finding themselves in a second group almost three minutes behind the rest of the field. Notable names in the second group were Pozzato, Guardini, Contador, Breschel, Sánchez, Cobo, Breschel, Paolini and Anton. None of them seemed bothered though and they never made it back.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_5.jpg
We finally saw some action as Geraint Thomas attacked on the flat just before the Capo climbs. The fun had begun.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_6.jpg
With the peloton closing in, Geniez attacked up the first Capo to try and create something new and maybe survive for a bit longer. Nieve joined him while the other three were dropped.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_7.jpg
Thomas' attack was soon neutralized by Liquigas and Astana. Sagan and Vaitkus (?) must be feeling good then I guess.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_8.jpg
After catching Thomas the pace dropped again, allowing Geniez and Nieve to increase their lead for a little while. They collaborated really well and actually had a gap of three minutes at a few points.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_9.jpg
It didn't take long until the next attack came from the peloton though, with Lars Boom jumping together with French champion Sylvain Chavanel.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_10.jpg
Geniez and Nieve reached the Cipressa 1'30 ahead of Boom & Chavanel and another 30' to the rest of the field. Impressive how they have fought all day.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_11.jpg
The pack caught Boom and Chavanel as they started the Cipressa. Once again the pace dropped after the catch, giving some more room to Geniez and Nieve.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_12.jpg
As we came down on the flat between the Cipressa and the Poggio, Cancellara attacked. Vansummeren glued himself onto C's wheel and the two quickly brought back Geniez and Nieve.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_13.jpg
No one less than Gilbert took charge in the peloton to close down the dangerous move. Shouldn't he be saving himself for an attack up the Poggio?

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_14.jpg
Vansummeren made the right turn up towards the Poggio first, followed by Cancellara and Flecha, who had also joined the party. G&N followed subsequently, closely chased by the peloton.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_15.jpg
Vansummeren must've had a brilliant day, since he attacked once again near the top of the Poggio, dropping Cancellara and Flecha!

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_16.jpg
The pack didn't chase especially hard, so Geschke tried an attack at the top of the Poggio. He managed to create a small gap, but was not able to make the junction up to the three leaders, who had rejoined in the descent.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_17.jpg
After attacking his two companions a number of times, Vansummeren now found them sitting on his wheel waiting for him to open up the sprint. The field was most likely too far back, so the winner would most probably come from this trio.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_18.jpg
Under the Flamme Rouge, Flecha surprised Cancellara with a fast kick. Spartacus realised it, but was it already too late? He bursted up alongside VS, but Flecha had created a small gap.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_19.jpg
Flecha proved to be unbeatable in the end and had plenty of time to celebrate a magnificent victory. Cancellara didn't really have the necessary kick to close the gap to Flecha and had to settle for second place.

i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/msr_20.jpg
Not far later, Hushovd caught Geschke right at the line to steal the 4th place from us. Still a brilliant result for us, as Van Hummel managed to sprint to 7th place. Two riders in the Top 10!

Great try.

I find MSR one of the hardest races to win in PCM.

Avin Wargunnson
You probably mentioned it earlier, but do you play on hard or extreme? It is amazing that your riders with 73 stamina ended in top 10 after 300kms. When i play MSR, everybody under 78 stamina and 95fitness is dead on Cipressa at extreme level.
I'll be back

Yeah, i know what is on page 1, but i was not sure if he didnt change to extreme, as lot of people do it and i lost a track with so many stories on Smile

Thanks everyone!

@AW: I'm of course on extreme now. The results are definitely surprisingly good, but the pace was really low in MSR for a long time and that helped us a lot.

@tmobile: Wow, many thanks for the nice words. Glad you like the story.

bezemwagen.be/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/parcours-dwars-door-vlaanderen.jpg

Dwars Door Vlaanderen is the next of the cobbled classics. It's held just a week before the first of the three cobbled Classics, Gent-Wevelgem. That means that we should see some of the big names in good shape here, using this race as a last preparation for the more important ones.

Skil squad:
i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h416/vNibali/skilshimano/ddv_t.jpg
We're sending all our strongest cobblers. Veelers is always our main man, but De Backer and Curvers will have free roles. Will also be interesting to see if Docker can repeat his brilliant performance from MSR here.

Favourites:
*** Flecha
** Vansummeren, Boonen
* Traksel, Boom, Scheirlinckx

After picking up the biggest win of his career a week ago in MSR, Flecha has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to deliver here.
Vansummeren was also very strong in MSR, but had to see Flecha and Cancellara beating him in the sprint. He's definitely looking for a revenge here.
The winner will be one of those two I think.
