his descending isn't great is it?
Luckily he got enough time with his good attack on the climb.

What did Andy do, seemed he just stopped pushing. He didn't seem to be in trouble.

Oh well, Gesink's topping too early and will fail miserably in the Tour. How does that make you feel, Ruben? |

Don't count on that. This is Gesink's first race since LBL. I'm pretty sure this isn't his peak yet.
But the rest isn't at their peak either |

Is Gesink any good in the time trials vs Menchov and in general?
I think they will co-operate and the one which is best they are working for.. |

Just to tone down the chauvinism a bit, he did loose 30secs in the downhill wich, even though it was windy and he was on his own against some 10 riders, is a lot. But it was great to see him crush the opposition like that, only saw some flashes in between work though ;( |

Cancellara to win the time trial by 23 minutes and take the GC. Clearly.
He only needs to go 19.5km/h faster than anyone else. Clearly doable.

The GPS wasn;t very reliable. It showed 1'20 in the screen, and seconds later the 2nd group reached the top of the climb at 1'04
Secondly, there was a plateau of 3/4km before the downhill started, and they really rode hard there, probably the other 20 seconds
And the gps (which was already fault) went from 1'20 to 1'00
So probably the GPS was just off 20 seconds. I think Gesink lost the most time in the plateau part, which is logical alone against a group...
Just rewatched the stage on a torrent so.. pretty sure about that

That's way blown out of proportion. Basicly he had one bad descent in his career and it's stuck to him because he happened to be in yellow at the time and lost the jersey on the brink of victory. He got schooled as a rookie, isolated without teammates, by a veteran Rebellin who had done that particular descent, which was wet, already 100.000 times in his career. I don't think there's too much wrong with Gesink's descending. It's not a talent of his but not really a weakness either imo. |

Gesink does ok but Menchov is definitely better in time trials. I'd say Gesink is comparable to a guy like Schleck, not a natural especially on the flat but because of their overall talent and ambition they do allright. Overall Gesink should definitely make the top 10. I think you're right, their strategy will be determined as they go along. Possibly they can benefit from one another. |

A bit late, but I finally got around to watching the Cav crash, and my opinion is that it is no more his fault then Haussler's. Both of them are accelerating around the other sprinter in the middle of them (Ciolek I think) and then both try to move in front of said rider to block any counter move, and then jump bump into each other. Both are aggressive sprinters, and they knew that backing down from trying to grab that position would mean they would lose to the other. It was a game of chicken, and neither of them blinked. Haussler deserves just as much blame as Cav. |
