It's really great to have a race won on the hardest part of it (Kapelmuur today), instead of boring tactics. |

Cancellara definately the best rider in the world. Hes got a great acceleration hes amazing on cobbles and tt and has a decent sprtint not to mention he can climb well when he tries aka given the leader role on Saxo. He's just a league above.
Referring to TdS last year, or what ?
Actually yes but because he was leader there and had good climbing ability. He is the guy that if he works on a certain area of racing i.e. climbing sprinting etc he could be up there with the best. But then he would loose some of his natural ability on the tt. HE's the strongest rider in the world no questions asked.
Tour de Suisse was a hilly race last year.
Contador is the best rider in the world and he proved it by winning the UCI World Ranking and the biggest bike race in the world last year.
Awesome to see Armstrong in good form today |

Valverde won the UCi world Ranking. Atleast i'm 90% sure. Just gotta check CQ Rankings.
Edit; Yep Valv most definately won the UCi World Rankings last year and LL Sanchez leads this year if I read that correctly.

my meaning was not add sprinter+ TT + cobble..against
climber + TT and compare numbers in UCI rankings.
UCI rankings is not absolute best place for me to find out cyclist abilitys.
Question was..who is best rider for your opinion..Conta or Cancellara? |

the CQ ranking is not the same as the UCI world rankings But CQ ranking is much more reliable in terms of judging one riders results compared to another rider.

Then what's the point of the question ? What do you mean by "best" ?
The most complete, powerful, smart ? |

there is word cyclist. Forget results and PCM stats. Who is most complete cyclist for you..mentaly-physically
sry. I know this is a little stupid discussion..

No problem.
Replying to your question I'd say Cancellara, because he's really mentally strong, and never experience weakness in important events. |

Superb there from Cancellara - surprised me a little too, as Boonen looked so much stronger in the early part of the race.
Great for Saxobank too - they may not have a sponsor for next season, but are still the best all round team in the peloton.

Best rider should be one to dominate hardest races or win a lot of races (so Cipo was at some point). At the moment it is Cancellara with no competition.

Really great to watch battle of two titans and this time nobody from others can say that he couldnt follow Cancellara and Boonen because of some unluck. These two guys were just strongest. I'm feeling that in the Paris-Roubaix it will be between them too.
And Biathlon, maybe you had special tv channel who was all time during the race showing Armstrong?

I'm making a shout and a half, and saying that Geraint Thomas is looking in form right now. And being the last Sky rider in the train, may well be a protected rider. Top 20?
He is there as one of the 3/4 Sky riders heading the peloton right now. The target is more likely to be for a Flecha performance though, over a personal position like Top 20
And in the end, Thomas took 33rd. Finishing alongside Millar and Flecha in the Farrar-led group

I disagree with the whole best rider discussion when the answer is Cancellara
People tend to massively overrate the competition in cobbled classics. There are almost no top riders in this part of cycling. There are a lot more top riders in hills and climbs, making those races MUCH harder to win than the RVV, where there is only a select group of 3/4 people each year who really matter.
I'm sorry but, just look at the names finishing in the 2nd group at 3 minutes.
Or better yet, look at the number 3, Philiippe Gilbert, he has his peak set on Liege Bastogne Liege and Amstel Gold Race and really rides Flanders on 90% of his possibilites, yet finishes 3th...
And in the year that Michele Bartoli, top hilly rider, took Flanders serious for once, he won it.
Meh. Sorry, but the strongest rider to me is a guy who wins the last 4 Grand Tours he participated in.. Contador.
Contador in Tour vorm even beats Cancellara at his own game, time trialling.
If that doesn't say enough for you, what will? |

no..no. If you but them both in top form to TT..this will be Cancellara home field.
If I am correct he has done this only once..and this is also thank to the climb inside TT route (oh no I started that discussion again)

In support of Ruben, I'd also throw in that Spartacus has done nothing really in these 2 races since winning P-R a few years back. |

The competition in cobbles is indeed limited, but you have alot of riders who can ride cobbles decent though. The gap between the best and the "second-line" is just bigger then in the mountains.
Contador is indeed probably the best rider at this moment, can't argue with that. But Cancellara isn't far off. Cancellara has the ability to win all 5 monuments but focusing on one will cause the other ability to go down. But i don't think anyone can say 100% that Cancellara wouldn't be able to win LBL or Lombardie.
