Interview - Daniel Martin
Q: Are you the new leader of EA-Sony Ericsson Cycling for the rest of the tour since you jumped Larsson by almost a minute?
A: I have not spoked yet to the team manager but looking at the GC I'm going to try and get the approval to be the leader. Also if you would ask Larsson he would agree that I can climb better than him as well.

Stupid Martin, he never thought of the ITT Pfft Watch out on stage 9, the other GC contenders will go crazy!

Haha that is funny now looking back at it, I have not raced stage 9 yet because I want to have a lot of time to make sure I get everything perfect and don't blow Larsson's yellow jersey.

Amgen Tour of California Stage 9 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Profile-8.jpg
The 9th and final stage is set to be an epic race. As the cold rain pours down over the riders on the start line, the team is set to hold Larsson's Yellow.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/PetersonAttack-2.jpg
Peterson makes the first attack of the day in hopes of stealing the KoM jersey on the last stage, as well keep the presure off the team to hase down the breakaway.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Climb1.jpg
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Climb2.jpg
He takes the 1st and 2nd climbs of the day, and now sits 2 points behind with the hardest climb of the day standing in his way. If he could get over that in 1st KoM would be his.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Climb3.jpg
He has a nice gap.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Climb4.jpg
5km from the top ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Climb5.jpg
And over top, Peterson comes from behind and wins the KoM. Cheers all around in the team car. Props off to Peterson for his effort today and we tell him he can coast it out to the finish line, where his prize awaits him. As the celebration continue the race radio cuts in - Uran 3rd over the climb.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Uran1.jpg
We missed an attack, the only problem Uran gives the team is he leads Martin just a little more than a half a minute in the young rider classification. But Martin didn't attack as he was protecting Larsson on the climb.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/LarssonGroup.jpg
And when they get over top Martin did his job, Larsson sits in the front main group with 20 or so riders with all the favorites. But now there was another problem Uran was gaining huge time on the downhill, and passed Larsson virtual on the road.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/LarssonGroup1.jpg
Larsson's group is down to 15 strong riders, when over race radio there is a crash ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/UranCrash.jpg
Uran goes down after taking one to many risks around the bend and gets passed by Larsson's group, Martin is now in virtual white and Larsson back in yellow. Now there was just one tiny climb left for the favorites to rip away yellow from Larsson's back.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/20kmtogo.jpg
Heading into the climb the group was down to 12 riders, including Martin and Larsson. As they waited to counter any move, ... nobody moved. And still nothing ... and eventually they went over the top. Nobody attacked.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/10kmtogo-3.jpg
Now with 10km to go, Larsson is on the edge of his seat.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/1kmtogo-4.jpg
They reach the 1km banner with no attacks, Larsson lauches his sprint.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Amgen%20Tour%20of%20California/Finish-3.jpg
And takes the win, but more importantly the tour! What a tour -
6 Stage Wins / 2 Peraud - 4 Larsson
1st GC - Larsson
10th GC - Martin
Sprint Point Jersey - Larsson
KoM Jersey - Peterson
Young Rider Jersey - Martin
Objective Achieved-Finish in Top 3 GC

This is has to be a benchmark for the team heading into the future.

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: Your team dominated California this year, where can we see this EA-Sony team race next?
A: Bayern-Rundfahrt, 5 hard stage where it is a team goal race to finish as the leading climber. I'm very proud of this team and can't wait for what is ahead in the future.

Bayern-Rundfahrt Stage 1 Report

*Team Goal Race - Finish as Leading Climber*

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Profile.jpg
Our Riders -
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Riders.jpg

One of the few flat stages in this 5 stage tour, Larsson we look for another top 5 in GC coming in with good form, and Lovkvist or Deignan will try and achieve the team goal. But today we are going to sit back and save energy and hope for a group sprint at the finish.

... No pictures taken of the breakaway today, but with 10km to go they have a shot to make it!
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LarssonAttack.jpg
Larsson has to make a move with the peloton not chasing them down.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/5kmtogo.jpg
With 5km to go Larrson is between the breakaway riders and the peloton.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/1kmtogo.jpg
With 1km to go, the teams without a rider in the breakaway - like us - made a huge mistake timing the chase.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Finish.jpg
Larsson does gain time on the peloton, but the bigger story is the surprise breakaway that makes it all the way, hats off to those riders.

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: Who are you putting the blame on for the breakaway win today?
A: Some on us, being one of the top teams here. But hey sometimes you give credit where credit is due, great ride to Mathias Belka of LKT Team Brandenburg.

Great to see I still have a few followers! Sorry about the long delays on the reports, school is now holding me back.

But note: The story is only dead once I post it is dead, I won't just random leave. And I usually check-in with the site at least once day - I just don't have the time to run the stages. And to add on to that most reports will most likely come on the weekend.

Bayern-Rundfahrt Stage 2 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Profile-1.jpg
Big day for Larsson, Lovkvist, and Deignan as they all are favourites coming into today's stage. Deignan will try and get some mountain points today, and the sweds will both try for a stage win.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/EarlyBreakaway.jpg
Deignan is successful getting into the early breakaway ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/EarlyBreakCaught.jpg
But it doesn't make it to the KoM checkpoints.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/DeignanAttack.jpg
So he trys again on the climb to the top.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb1.jpg
And he takes 3rd, 2 points.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LovkvistAttack.jpg
5km from the 2nd climb Deignan is brought back, so Lovkvist attacks.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb2.jpg
He comes arcossed in 3rd as well.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Downhill.jpg
On the downhill there are 2 clear riders up in front with Lovkvist.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LovkvistAttack2.jpg
Lovkvist trys to lose them, ... and he gets away.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/5kmtogo-1.jpg
With 5km to go Lovkvist has a 45 second lead, before the climb to the finish. Back in the peloton,
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LarrsonAttack.jpg
GE Larsson attacks!
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Finish1.jpg
Lovkvist shows he's power in his legs and takes the win, and also GC Lead.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Finish2.jpg
Larsson after a rampage on the climb to the finish takes 3rd, and moves into 5th overall. Deignan exhausted comes in 13 minutes behind Lovkvist.

Interview - Philip Deignan
Q: Are you still after the KoM after what happened today?
A: Yep, with me 13 minutes plus back it should be easier now, but I have to be there for every checkpoint now because there are only 14 points left I could get.

Bayern-Rundfahrt Stage 3 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Profile-2.jpg
Soon after Lovkvist got into the team bus after celebrating his win, the bright blue skies turn dark, and thunderstorms rolled in. Rain poured so hard roads started to flood. Race organizers were panicking, the last 20km's of Stage's 3 route was underwater ... But the race had to go on. Boundaries were set that team cars were not allowed in the last 30kms to provide safety to the cyclists.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Breakaway.jpg
Deignan does his job, even with all the confusion about the finish surrounding him. He gets in the breakaway.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb1-1.jpg
Takes first over the first climb and ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb2-1.jpg
And again over the second climb. He coasts back into the peloton not wanting any part of leading the race into the unknown conditions of the road that lead ahead.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Flood.jpg
First signs of the nasty road conditions we could capture with our camera, and it only got worse. But the race organizers toke our camera not wanting the current race conditions pictures to get out and scare off teams in future races.

But a local newspaper was able to get this picture of the finish ...

Flood Waters Make For An Interesting Finish
During Stage 3 Bayern-Rundfahrt

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Underwater.jpg

Again we had to pull-out with 30kms left, later reports stated the breakaway was caught with 15km to go. and the stage ended in a sprint finish. And luckily nobody was injured.

Q: What was it like out there?
A: To be totally honest ... that was the worst road conditions I have ever raced on, period. It better not be that bad for tomorrows ITT.

Yeah, haha. This was the first time I experienced this, but I have seen pictures of this happening before. So while I was racing I was trying to come up with a way to present the information in the most realistic way. A flood was the best thing I could come up with Wink.

Bayern-Rundfahrt Stage 4 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Profile-3.jpg

A long ITT suits Larsson and Lovkvist, being two of the few riders with a TT ability rated over 70. Not alone Larsson's being 83 - He is the clear favorite to win the stage, and possibly to take the yellow jersey away from Lovkvist.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Miles.jpg
Shadrack Miles is the first rider to hit the road, which looks 1000 times better than it did yesterday in stage 3. He is followed by 4 more EA-Sony riders - Neil, Wells, Deignan and Anziani. Lovkvist and Larsson have to wait another 1 hour before they finally get into the starting house.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LarssonStart.jpg
Even after the long wait Larsson leaves in great form (+4).
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LovkvistStart.jpg
Followed by Lovkvist, who the team car decided to follow behind.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Check1.jpg
At the first check. Larsson set the clock-board on fire. Lovkvist rolls under currently in 5th.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Check2.jpg
At check 2 it is clear Larsson is going to be in yellow. Lovkvist is just trying to hold off Tom Veelers to keep 2nd.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LarssonFinish.jpg
Larsson cross the finish line passing 2 riders in front of him during his rampage.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/LovkvistFinish.jpg
Lovkvist finishes again in 5th, but more important comes in with the same GC time as Veelers, but the time breaker went to Veelers because of the finish order of todays stage.

Interview - Gustav Erik Larsson
Q: You were setting blazing fast times out there, beating second by over 2 minutes, right now who would win one on one in a 20km ITT. You or Fabian Cancellara?
A:My form is great, but today the competition was weaker than usually. And Spartacus is one of the greats. All I'm going to say it would be closer than the average expert would think. I hope to see him at the World Championships.

Bayern-Rundfahrt Stage 5 Report

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Profile-4.jpg

Easy flat stage to end the tour, ... Deignan needs 3 KoM points to achieve the sponsor goal, and Lovkvist needs 1 second to pass Veelers for 2nd Place.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Breakaway-1.jpg
The breakaway gets away in two groups of three, Deignan gets unlucky and sits in the second group 30 seconds back. And 4th place over the 1st climb only gives out 2 points ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Breakaway2.jpg
5kms from the top Deignan has to make a move, but his legs are screaming at him after doing all the work in the second group to try and catch the leaders over the last 35km.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb1-2.jpg
But his desire takes over ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb2-2.jpg
1km away ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb3.jpg
And magically takes first over the top, securing the sponsor objective!!!
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Climb4.jpg
And even takes 3rd over the second climb for good measure. Hats off to Deignan. Now the race turns back over to the battle for 2nd.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/10kmtogo.jpg
At 10kms remaining the breakaway is put back into its place.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/5kmtogo-2.jpg
Lovkvist hooks onto the back of Larsson's wheel with 5km to go.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/1kmtogo-1.jpg
Veelers picks up speed, can Larsson match?
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Bayern-Rundfahrt/Finish-1.jpg
Nope ... Tom Veelers steals the show, and 2nd away from Lovkvist. But don't forget that Larsson walks away with the hardware, and his bottle of champaign for his overall win.

Q: Amazing climb today, that eventually lead you to get this KoM jersey, how does this feel?
A: Best feeling in the world that I can contribute to this new squad and show them that I'm in this for the long haul, but also I'm ready to give my all right now. And congrats to teammate Gustav and Thomas for taking 1st and 3rd respectively.

P.S. Cool

Update: I'm truly sorry for the lack of reports over the past few weeks, I going to get the two one-day races (Philadelphia International Championship & Air Force Cycling Classic) done over this weekend. Then start the Ster Elektrotoer next weekend. And the week after that I start a two and half weeks off from school because of Winter Break. Which means I will have time to post reports mostly everyday again! Banana

Sorry for the long post, but I just had to put it out there to make sure people don't think this story is dead. Wink

First time since March we raced in a one-day race, and it's a tough one at that. But we are prepared with a very strong line-up with Lovkvist & Larsson, the Sweds. But also Peterson & Young Rookie Ackerman. A top 10 shouldn't be a problem.

i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/AckermanBreak1.jpg
Ackerman does as he is told and gets up front in the first attempt of the morning breakaway.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/AckermanBreak2.jpg
After a few kms he looks around and realizes that he is the only still upfront, everyone else dropped back. EA-Sony getting some American T.V. Time.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/AckermanBreak3.jpg
But is eventually joined by Zahner from the American BMC Team.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/AckermanCaught.jpg
The parnership last all the way to 100kms to go, but Ackerman's legs gave way after 125kms in the lead. But some how Zahner was able to keep past with the new forming breakaway.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/SutherlandAttack.jpg
25kms later another attack involving Sutherland (United Health Care Team)and Beyer (BMC).

With time running out, EA-Sony was left with 3 riders in the peleton (Sweds, & Peterson). A move had to be made on the last climb because Radioshack still had G. Rast and T. Vaitkus ready to sprint if everyone was in one big group heading down to the finish.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/TrioAttack.jpg
We send all of our missiles at once ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/TrioAttack2.jpg
And they rocket toward the front!
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/Downhill.jpg
On the other side on the hill Lovkvist opens a huge gap, and Larsson follows behind. Peterson in OK form is back with Sutherland and Beyer.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/20kmtogo.jpg
20km to go ...
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/5kmtogo.jpg
5km to go, nobody is even close to Lovkvist & Larsson and they slow up to celebrate and shake hands with each other on a job well done. As they coast the next 5kms.
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/1kmtogo.jpg
i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/Mresuperstar/Philadelphia%20International%20Championship/Finish.jpg
An Easy 1-2 Finish Today! Larsson hands the win to Lovkvist after he dominated the final climb of the day. Ohh ... and to put the cherry on top of this great day Peterson comes in 4th. And on another note Lovkvist and Larsson came in so early 25 riders were DQ for not reaching the finish line in the required time, including Ackerman, Skene, Wells, and Arnold.

Interview - Thomas Lovkvist
Q: Another day, another win for EA-Sony Ericsson Cycling Team. From the team's success in May to now a great start in June, what has happened over the past two months that has lead to this outbreak?
A: Hard Work, Dedication to the team, and maybe this will come as a surprised to some people but Teamwork. Many people still view this sport as one guy Vs. everybody else, but there is no way I could have won with the efforts of Skene, the waterboy. Ackerman using his legs to make sure we din't have to chase the breakaway today, Peterson for setting up the key attack, and my close friend Larsson for letting me have the win today. And I hope these results continue for the rest of the season.
