There's no disrespect to Aru, he has not the level to be leader in a GT at this time. Before that I think he should be leader in one week WT race like Paris-Nice, Tour of Catalunya.

I doubt Scarponi would've signed if he wasn't fine with the situation. He's getting older and has been going downhill for the past two years, after all
It's also worth remembering that Aru outclimbed him to Tre Cime already at this year's Giro, despite having struggled badly with stomach illness for most of the race

It's confirmed Scarponi to Astana and help Nibali for Tour and also lead team for Giro not Aru..
What a great team Astana will be at Tour..Fuglsang Kangert and now Scarponi..

What's the obsession with the young riders in this forum? Scaproni still is ten times better rider. And btw Scarponi is younger than that guy in your profile pic so maybe we should give leader role to Spilak? |

I like young riders and especially Fabio Aru. Could definitely see him do great next year.
Also with Scarponi going to a new team like Astana i can see him do better then with Lampre this season. He didn't have the best preparation in the winter and start of the season. |

Agreed. I know Aru could prove me wrong come next May, and everyone is very much invited to come back with this post should that happen, but I think it'd be a mistake to give him the leadership over Scarponi, even if the latter is fine with that.

Or maybe Astana should give the leadership to one of Scarponi's friends - Fuentes or Ferrari.

Does Nibali apply to Ferrari as well? |

they already look like the strongest British domestic team for 2014, Downing brothers + Blythe should dominate the Tour series.
i see they've got Sean Yates aswell as DS.

Not the topic. I'm just looking at this from the racing perspective. I am a fan of Aru, but I just don't think that as soon as young and talented rider comes in everything should be given to him considering the fact that there's more accomplished and proven rider who's still very good. |

Maybe the obsession with the young riders has to do with that they don't carry the baggage of doping with them, fair or not fair as it may be. Riders like Scarponi are steeped in the doping culture and with what has been going on with cycling the "fans" are looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, wells thats how I see it anyway.
Good move from Blythe dropping down a few levels, he will win races and build confidence which counts for sprinters. Getting away from BMC will be good for him and also with so many free riders around at the moment it also might have been his only choice to drop to Conti

Itis tough to see if Aru will be good enough right now, but it could easily happen. Scarponi will not get better, Aru will. I wouldn't be surprised if Aru finishes around 7th placeat Giro next year, similar to Majkathis year.
Florencio retires and becomes DS at Katusha for next year.

Aru surprised me quite a lot this season. In especially in the first half, when I had more time to watch the races. He was more than solid and stepping up a bit is a logical move for him.
Scarponi having a free role next to him is also smart as he is way more experienced and could take the pressure a bit of him.
Blythe is a huge surprise to me. Then again his results weren`t that great in the last 2-3 seasons. But I had expected him to go to a smaller team or PCT eventually. Down to CT is a huge step down. |
