Double Feature | THE END
Jesleyh
Wow, just Wow! A 70km solo! What a great win for Willy!
Hope he can keep that gap in the last stages Wink

Oh, and TheManxMissile posting a 'all 85s' comment in 3, 2, 1...
Pfft

Not yet. He will only say it in a few minutes, after he says something.

wogsrus
Amazing solo from Willy. Not so good for Stijn!

sutty68
That was one hell of a victory from Willy Grin

Ian Butler
baseballlover312 - Thanks! It was a nasty fall, but he'll pull through. Maybe not for the Tour, but that shouldn't stop him having one hell of a late season!

Miguel98 - Maybe he wasn't screaming from the car, but he was certainly screaming in the hospital bed Pfft

Jakstar22 - Will do! Only 2 stages to survive. Froome is dangerous, but it should be very possible!

Jesleyh - One hell of a solo indeed. From the foot of the Grand Colombier Smile I'm waiting for that comment indeed Pfft Still no one with 85 in anything. Though I can reveal that Stijn has already got several 80-stats, and Willy has got a couple (very recently another one, secondary stat). So in a way they're becoming monsters now Pfft

wogsrus - Thanks! Everyone has a little bad luck every now and then, unfortunately...

sutty68 - It was an amazing ride, and in the end he brought it home, one for the books Grin Thanks!

Something came up for today. I'll be leaving pretty soon and I have to do some interval training on the bike so I won't have time to race. This evening I might be back very late so I'll be too tired to race then. So expect the next report tomorrow, at the earliest! Gives us some time to enjoy Willy's victory a bit longer, huh? Smile

Jakstar22
Take your time ian

Ollfardh
Great win for Willy! Hope he gets the support he deserves in the Tour (I do remember Rui Costa owing him a few favours Wink )
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Maybe you can rename your title :

Lets hope you feel the benefit of your interval training Wink

Ian Butler
Jakstar22 - Thanks, mate!

Ollfardh - I think he'll get a lot of support (Geniez...). However, Costa hasn't a single Grand Tour planned, so he won't be going to the Tour.

krisa - Could be, but I don't want to be overly ambitious. First he needs that Grand Tour win, then maybe Wink

sutty68 - Thanks! Usually interval training really suits me. I recuperate very fast, mostly just a matter of minutes, and I can hold heavy exertions for several minutes. But playing 2 hours of soccer after interval training is too much Pfft

I'll try to do a race before noon today!

sutty68
Lets hope you have the energy left Pfft

Critérium du Dauphiné - Stage 7

Preview

Willy: I'm leading, so today I have to defend this jersey. 2 and a half minutes sounds like a lot, but Froome is a dangerous client!

The Race

Willy Wouters

Everybody did their utmost best today! I can't thank them enough!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/c02_zps9bb4c824.jpg

However, nearing the finish of the Colombière, I only had one man left, and he was draining energy fast.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/c03_zps768eb094.jpg

There was nothing else to do for me but attack, out of precaution. The moment I went, I felt yesterday's stage in my legs. I guess that's only logical.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/c04_zpsa536e1db.jpg

Luckily I got joined by a decent-sized group. We went to the final climb of the day together.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/c05_zpsc69a35b6.jpg

And then, the inevitable: Froome and Contador started their revenge! My answer was weak, too weak.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/c06_zps73912681.jpg

They worked together to gain as much time on me, I was isolated. I felt I was losing the Dauphiné right here, on the slopes of the Joux-Plane, one of my favorites climbs. Van Den Broeck and Gesink just sat in my wheel, not relaying.

Aftermath

Well, this was to be expected. These days, you can't expect to go 70 km into the attack one day and produce the same watts the next day. I payed my price. I still wouldn't trade in my win for anything in the world

I have one more stage to defend this jersey. I'm still in front 46 seconds. Tomorrow promises to be exciting!
Until then,
Willy

Still got the leaders jersey. Froome dog hasn't got a hope. Cmon Willy.

Atlantius
Still in front though, so nothing is lost yet Smile

sutty68 - He sure does! What a dangerous man!

wogsrus - One more stage!

Atlantius - 46 seconds should be enough, hopefully!

krisa - Very true Wink

Willy: Well, it's the final stage. All or nothing now. I will try to waste as little energy as possible, keep my eye on Contador and Froome.

The Race

Willy Wouters

Once again, the team worked incredibly hard. I will send all of them a basket of fruit to thank them later!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/cri02_zps15ad01c8.jpg

And then the moment I dreaded. Contador attacked a first time!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/cri03_zps15ce2ecf.jpg

I was able to keep his pace. My legs were better than yesterday, I felt that immediately! As soon as I caught up with him, I stopped riding. Preserve my energy as best as possible, not acting foolish!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/cri04_zps0d8bae88.jpg

With another attack and a strong descend, he got away, though. I was starting to get nervous, suddenly he got a minute and a half!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/cri05_zpsdfbb7f71.jpg

A small group, including myself, was chasing him. I owe those guys so much for riding with me. I couldn't chase him all by myself.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/cri06_zps3f2ea117.jpg

Everyone worked hard and we got closer. The danger was gone as he was nearly in our reach.

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/cri07_zpscc56aabe.jpg

Froome with one last attempt to shake me in a long sprint!

i1322.photobucket.com/albums/u569/IanButlerPCM2/cri08_zpsf9c7f290.jpg

But I only had one thing to say to him, and without really realizing it, I said it out loud: "Not today, Froomy!". This is my Critérium du Dauphiné!

Aftermath

I did it! Unbelievable but it's true, I won critérium du Dauphiné. Even greater, I won three of the eight stages! It's simply amazing. I'm looking forward to the Tour and I'm really curious what I can do there! Hope to have Stijn at my side, though...

Tonight there will be major celebrations, you can count on that!
See you at the national championships,
Willy

That's how you finish!

Any update on Stijn's situation?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
