You lucky british students.
I've got, at least, a month to be glued to the books.
Don't worry, some of us British students still have many exams left

Running race #3 this morning. Very tough route on the first third, the rest was rather flat (for local standards). Landscape was gorgeous, I must say. If anyone has a clue what the western part of France looks like, there's some sort of fork with three peaks in the middle of the district (as much in the West of France as you could possibly think of), so it was on the bottom peak. Sea side, moor, woods. Quite enjoyable when you're not feeling about to die.
It actually turned out to be a trail, the paths were very much like Tro Bro Léon's, if that means anything to anyone.
I felt much better than 10 days ago. I'm thinking that I wasn't done with my digestion back then (beginner's mistake at my age, some people never learn ). So, a proper digestion later, and some interval training in between did the trick.
Even though I started too fast (heart beat spotted at 178 bpm), it probably was a good thing to do, as the paths were too narrow to overtake. So, I lacked a bit of energy to higher the pace on the second and last third, which were flatter. Had I known the route before I may have managed my efforts differently.
Ranked 106 on 320, which is much better than last time (50 positions gained). Three mere minutes left and I'd rank around the 65th position. Very close.
Overall, 15 km of a trail, in 1h06'40". 13,5 km/h.
Next race is Sunday. Easier route I reckon, and proper roads and paths.
Peaking for July (TDF joke if you didn't get it)

4th race this morning. The eating was ok, my stomach didn't annoy me during the race.
Despite swallowing anti-inflammatory pills at every meal for 48 hours, my knees, hips, back bottom, and ankles were painful (they still are as I write, actually). I'm fearing the moment when the anti-inflammatory effect will vanish. Looks like I'll once more walk like man who forgot his crutches at home...
Either it was a non-proper warm up, either I have simply not fully recovered from Thursday's race, but my heartbeat wouldn't go too high. To give a few figures : my threshold seemed around 171 last Thursday, I reached 179 in the beginning of the race (max heartbeat I've spotted this year was 183 I reckon). Rest of the race was oscillation between 168 and 173. Today the highest I spotted was 172, the average figure was rather around 165. And I couldn't really accelerate.
All in all, I ranked 87th or 88th, on a field that consisted of 160 racers, more or less. 1h16'30" to do 16,72 km (not flat, but not difficult either, half roads, half paths).
My joints ached so bad after one lap that I thought I'd just give up, eventually I finished the race, but I feel I'm wasting my knees, etc. a bit more each time. If I had some common sense, I'd quit running as soon as possible. |

Joint pans can often be put down to something as simple as the shoes you run in. They can often be responsible for joint pains, especially joint pains in multiple, different areas. Even if you've got proper running shoes, it's best to go to a specialist running shop and get your running style analysed to make sure they're the right shoes for you

Yep, you're right.
Thing is, I was lost for running, according to a specialist, in July 2008. I had been off for 10 months already, with Achilles problem.
Although it had never prevented me from running, I can remind having aching knees already back in 2001.
Eventually a physio and a chiropodist analysed the way I stand and walk, and made me some shoes (as well as unblocking all those joints, I was almost crippled back then). Once I got the soles I could start running again, without too much pain. After one year I wasted the soles, and got a new form of knee problems, that prevented me from taking part in the races I targeted (last Summer). Then I got new soles, which I've had reshuffled in January, and I could run again without too much pain. The guy added as much depth as he could, to save my joints. Sadly problems keep occurring, more and more frequently. It's a bit like if all my joints have been wasted year after year.
So, either I need new shoes and soles, either I'm just too old for that business (though I'm among the youngest runners in the fields). |

Random fact of the day:
Ever seen that simpsons musical episode where they watch a musical western featuring Clint Eastwood named "Paint My Wagon"?
It's a real movie. Yes, Eastwood is in it. Yes, Eastwood sings (well...tries to). No he wasn't young and needing the money, it was after he became a star.
Bonus: Lee Van Cleef also sings in it

The world is so incredibly weird sometimes
Me to one of my very best friends who I've only known for 3 years: "That reminds me, back in 2001, when I still used IRC I had this talk with a completely random guy with nickname X where I said A, and he said B"
Friend: "And then you said C and he said D?"
Me: "how'd you know"
Friend: "that was me"

Browsing the web with a hardly surviving form of my Velciraptor hard drive. It started really passing away lat Sunday. New one (warranty) on its way.
Ordered an OCZ RevoDrive x2 at the same time. Paid an extra for faster delivery. Doesn't mean faster shipping at all. Sucks. |

Wow, the Ad Bot is really good.
The ad I saw in my Meiji Fuji thread was the International Japanese Dating Site.
In other news I saw my very first episode of Top Gear on (surprisingly) the History Network. Now I have something interesting to watch at home all day, before my exams, while studying.

Well I heard it was good, but I've never seen it on my TV guide before. Why is that a bad thing that I haven't watched it until now?

Well its currently a marathon on History Network (I just find it so funny that its on a history channel) so its really only like 2 or 3 weeks of straight watching it.
I already cancelled about 5 phone calls for plans to play Bball and pretended to not answer any of my texts so I could sleep, study and watch Top Gear on my first day of exam writing (I had the day off of course)
I know, I'm a popular guy

Argh, just found out I have a trip from the 9th of July to the 13th. Really sucks because I will be missing the TDF and possibly some of the Man Game transfer season the ONLY two things I didn't want to miss, out of everything I have this summer. And whats worse is it could become an 8 day trip and I dont have any control over that.
Only positive is I can practice my pickup lines at the beach.

Based on what we know about you (liking Friday is a sin), I doubt that your pickup lines will work. |
