Hushovd took stage 3 in Missouri, Cavendish did pretty much the same as Bennati did in the Vuelta, he used his team mates all the day, and had nearly no one left for the final 3kms. And it was a very chaotic sprint with attacks left and right the last 3km. Cavendish only had a dead Hincapie to help him in the last 1500 metres and that pretty much gave it to another guy, and that was Hushovd |

Yet more proof that Cavendish's big win total doesn't make him the best sprinter ever, it makes him an elite sprinter with the best leadout ever.
He wasn't boxed in or blocked. He had space to go for the line...simply he didn't have a team to place him for the sprint, so he started 5th in line.......and finished 5th.

He will Probably go to Euskatal like Romain Sicard
Two vrallly good signings by euskatel, Castroviejo won a stage yesterday in Tour de l'Avenir and Romain Sicard leads and wil Probably win in the end.

The man is consistently placed in a perfect position on almost every stage. Cipollini and Petacchi's trains were the best ever until this year, and at best they got Petacchi/Cipollini in a good position 50% of the time at best.
As for "best sprinter", he's got a better turn of speed than Cipo or Petacchi, but his top speed can't touch them. Anyway, watching the replays of the Giro's sprints illustrates my point perfectly: Petacchi didn't have a team to position him perfectly, but he was faster than Cavendish every time (although he didn't win on most stages precisely because he started too far back)
Cavendish is one of the best sprinters the world has seen, no question there. What I have an issue with is labelling him the best ever when nobody's had a train anywhere near as good as his, and when he keeps showing that when he doesn't have that marvellous leadout he loses more than he wins

There is not a single sprinter who is delivered to the front perfectly every stage, but Cav comes pretty close. The true measure of his greatness comes when he can win not from the perfect position, like Hushovd.

Cav is one of the best, but his team is simply THE BEST for lead outs, and has been proved time and time again.
McEwen was also a good sprinter, in fact one of my favouites, good old Aussie charm!
