I'm surprised you are backing a sprinter for Red, I certainly wasn't pre-Giro.
Apart from that, I don't want to comment and ruin it for you

Last leg of the home triip. I'm at the airport.
It's 106 miles to home. The plane's got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and I'm wearing sunglasses.
Hit it

So 12 O'clock Thursday happens, I turn on my wonderful laptop, and AVG prompts me to install yet another update. After a week or so of ignoring such a request, I decide to give in. One update later, and a little bit of interweb surfing, AVG suddenly pops up (just as Firefox crashes in a loving way) claiming to have found a 4 (out of 5) ranked trojan virus thingy on my machine. Do I wish to virus vault this intruder. Well, I think, I've pulled one over on this bizatch, caught in the act, so to speak. Pants down, so to speak. So, yes, I will virus vault you, you cursed evil being.
To zoom on in my story all of 5 seconds, and boom, Firefox will no longer restart, and, if I go to Ctrl Alt Dlt and the Processes tab, whenever I actually attempt to start any program, the program does not appear, but merely an entry for PUQ. Whatever that may, or may not, be. Eventually, after a restart, I manage to open Firefox through Firefox (Windows asks, with what do you want to open Firefox with? - List options of programs, I select Firefox). This causes Firefox to have a mini tantrum, but! it remains opened. Good. So I open up the AVG Virus Vault to see what I have condemned and google the name. Apparently it is some file that convinces the anti virus it needs to update, when it doesn't. So, being in the confused, continually sleepy state I am now in due to joining the world of work, I decide that I have probably updated AVG with either an incorrect update (ie, a virus), or let some file just wander into my computer, or I've Virus Vaulted some perfectly normal file that my computer needs to run, that AVG doesn't recognise. Many of those options have happened to me in the past, all of those options are AVG faults. I decide to give it a risk with letting this evil thingy out of the virus vault to see if it means I can now run programs. Long story short, no.
So, having destroyed my computer (on restarts AVG no longer opens automatically, Windows antivirus does and tells me I have 32 viruses infecting my computer, and I can't open any program to even attempt to install a new anti-virus program) I decide to do a complete rebuild of my OS and computer programs. Three days later, and I have returned.
No longer do I have my 18gb of music, but I did ensure to backup my PCM07 saved games first! Avast has taken over from AVG (the computer resource stealing program of doom), Lunascape6 has taken over from Firefox (the crashing internet explorer) and I have a (relatively speaking) fast, clean, simple computer to use for stuff.
This was the story of my short lived break from the internet. I hope you enjoyed it.

I know it's too late, and main thing is that you're back, but couldn't you try launching I.E. instead, and make your way to secuser.com or some other online antivirus ? That might have done the trick. |

I am quite happy with AVG. One of the best Freeware Antivir programs imo.
Norton is the worst in my eyes. Never have done good experiences with it. |

You shouldn't be. Norton is probably the most horrible antivirus program that I've ever used. |

Sounds very annoying rjc - and thats a lot of music to lose. Good to see you had your priorities right and backed up PCM stuff over it
And amusingly, the adbot is now showing an ad for an antivirus program on this page

It used to slow my pc a lot, but seems to be better with the latest edition. Seeing as i never had a virus, you won't hear me complaining.
Kaspersky would be my first choice, but my dad buys Norton for 3 PC, so yea.

Norton has been absolute bollocks for me. I managed to contract (is that the right word) a virus while under Norton that completely destroyed my computer's ability to function. All I could do was save and transfer the files to another computer but i couldn't run any programs. Something free like Microsoft Security Essentials is much better. Not to mention the fact that it took an hour to play a stage on 09 (mostly on x8).

Funniest thing is if you have Norton and then install Kaspersky Antivir Freeware for example. Then Norton will find a "virus" in the other Antivir exe file. This will totally ruin your pc as it slows everything down enormously. |

Yeah I consider Norton a virus itself.
If you ever get a message with a popup Vista Home Security 2011 or anything with a close name get rid of it ASAP. I obviously didn't trust it, but I couldn't run any programs until I removed it.
My internet provider came with security software.

Yeah Norton is really annoying if you have to buy it it sends a message each day and when you are running FIFA or a game like that it just makes it crash.

It probably secures the pc from attacks. But it also slows down a lot and brings other problems. |

We probably pay more attention to the slowing down of the system than to the blocking and saving of our computer.
