Try to imagine what their max power would be on different lengths, then do the same but divide their power per their assumed weight.
I guess that'll give you an idea.
Check page 5 :
https://www.freder...ie/SV3.pdf
I'd say Gilbert (or any typical puncher) has a lot of raw power, especially on effort that last 1 to 5 minutes. He can also maintain a huge number of W/kg during that time.
He's decent in terms of power during one or two hour (he's a capable TTist), but much less impressive if you were to divide that power per his weight.
Betancur (or any non-Diesel climber) on the other hand has less raw power on any length of time, but highest figures of W/kg on 20+ minutes.
He's still able to attack in the mountains because he's doing less of an effort than most of his opponents, so he's fresher. That's why seeing him attack doesn't necessarily prove he's outstanding on a one to five minutes period in terms of W/kg compared to an actual puncher.
Okay, thanks for that. Though I suspect Betancur is an unusual talent, in that matter. His acceleration on the Mur van Huy was simply amazing, yet his real strength lies in 20+ minutes. It'll be interesting to see what he will do in the (near) future!
Just one more question, do you think Nibali is like that, too, or is Nibali more diesel (with the occasional car back-fire = small attack)? |

His FW result shows he's close to the very best in terms of W/kg on short efforts too, but that doesn't contradict the rest (thankfully ).
Nibali is certainly the strongest rider racing (being in a race) at the moment in terms of W/kg for efforts that last 20 to 60 minutes, as he's showed he's the best climber of the Giro. That leaves him more room to accelerate when he feels like it (because for a given pace he's using a lesser percentage of his max, compared to his opponents).
The fact he's only doing short attacks and is no good sprinter and not an excellent puncher tends to show his [W / log(T)] or his [W/kg / log (T)] line must be much flatter, which is typical of Diesel guys. |

That look like a cracking little ride buddy, well done!!!
Pick up my new bike tomorrow (Giant TCR Advanced 1)which is great timing as my rear mech snapped off my current bike today, heading up a climb and Crack! the hanger snapped off and chain went in all different ways. All fixable but a it was a long freewheel back to somewhere populated.
Very nice bike. I bought mine 2 years ago as a first bike (Wanted my first bike to be good an last me a while) and i've still never had any problems with it. Very smooth.
Yeah I researched it a fair bit and got it down to 2, Fondriest TF3 and the Giant but the Giant just suited me more with the Compact frame and more aggressive position I can sit on the bike. Have done 200 k's on it so far and yeah it is one lovely ride, goes up well and really gives confidence when going downhill.
I am going to be competing again later this year, I was a track cyclist as a juniour but gave it up as I liked learing more but now I have the bug back for compition not just social again. Dropped 12 kgs in the last 6 months without losing power. Looking at the Tour du Bright later this year which means some races before to gain entry.

That Giant bike is awesome indeed, shame that it costs all my net yearly salary.

First time l think l have done over 80 metres of climbing per 10km. Really fun ride. Decent climb in the middle, with some pretty technical descents as well.

Hoping to ride the same route again today. Expecting some improvements. |

Went up the same climb again, much quicker on the descent, much quicker on the climb.

Nice after-exam ride with 2 friends from university. 2 more weeks of studying to go, so less cycling than usual these days.
Still got 1 KOM though

Indeed, I live in Berlare.
If you happen to know the village a bit, directly opposite the town hall there is a bakery, that's where I live ( 'De Kimpe' ).
Where do you live?

I´m hooked on cycling since I bought new bike.
Had a great ride with two friends yesterday evening with really nice weather and a 50 km´s ride.
Great trip with mixed terrain with 600 m total ascension. |

You guys in Belgium are just sooo lucky, rides right at your doorstep. Here, half the people don't respect cyclists, and I can't even find a hill.

Well, actually in Overmere, but that's also Berlare, I thought, right? |

But you should get a hell of a lot more sun out there. Its all very well being able to climb but it's not a lot of fun in the rain and snow.
Admittedly i don't know about Houston but around Austin, San Antonio and the coast (in parts) there is some great cycling and a fair amount of active people. I always thought Texas was better than many places... for obvious reasons

Yeah, Houston is only good for the oil + shipping industry, but that's off-topic.
Really Austin and San Antonio are closer to the Hill Country, hence some actual hills, here it's just industry. But I'm not sure the conditions at this years AToC was exactly comfortable either.

Great to see so many are updating their strava accounts!
I have been sick, injured and tired after finishing the National cup of Norway last week (link below). 2 hours training in a week is not good enough to get good results in the classifications Just worse that my buddy have got around 350 kilometres on the bike only this weekend... Next race is this weekend, and I feel bad about that...

Need to get a cheap(er) Garmin to actually log my rides on Strava? Atm I use it scout out local climbs which is really useful. |

Got my rear wheel cleaned of most spokes . Some idiot didn't have enough space and grinded his quick-release in my spokes. Luckily he crashed (damn him for breaking my stuff)
Mihkel Räim won btw (Amore Vita) and Jaan Kirsipuu maybe a little overweight but damn, he has power.
