There's the rumor that the following riders are behind this:
Micheal Rogers
Lance Armstrong
Ivan Basso
Danilo Di Luca
Armstrong is affraid to crash again
Also maybe the are scared or something like that after what happened to Horillo.

Lance has been moaning about the Giro route on twitter all week. He was "livid" with the descent in to Chivanna/

The comments of pretty much everyone who's been interviewed so far have ranged from "this protest makes no sense " to "the riders are idiots". No one is for it.
These people are mainly former riders like Cipollini ("I rode in this same circuit in the rain. It's not a problem" to LPR's DS who is in the team car right now.
From Johan Bruyneel's Twitter:
So there will be a winner of the stage today but nobody will gain or loose time for the general classification. Good decision! |

Rogers and Armstrong said they were scared to death on the descent on stage 7, so the reason they're doing this is probably because they are unhappy with the rider's safety at the giro, not just this stage.

the stage is bad, but not bad enough for this go-slow. We see more cars on the road in classic races.

Petacchi wasn't well positioned, so the winner was easy to guess

What a pathetic stage, not dangerous at all. A dumb excuse of a protest.
A good sprint by Cav, but 1km can't pay back the 159 others, or the fans in Milan that have come out to support the riders. I saw a handful cheering the riders, the rest just stood there.
