Sure, I was being sarcastic.
But technically our head of State has more power than yours, they've just agreed not to use it.

What power? The military? There isn't much else, Congress controls everything and doesn't want to hurt anyone, so jackshit gets done.
The military is just one thing that the president controls. The President also controls the bureaucratic apparatus(i.e. making appointments to head pretty much everything), which is where 99% of lawmaking is done in this country. When congress passes a law, they usually leave a tremendous amount of work to be done before the law can be implemented. This is because congress is really bad at doing things that require an experts knowledge. They leave it to bureaucratic agencies to flesh out legislation. The executive branch is huge, and the reason it is huge is because when there are power vacuums the branch best positioned to take that power is the executive. It's referred to as the "Imperial Presidency." The President can make decisions faster than congress, and has first mover advantage. Plus the president has plenty of surrogates in Congress. And he is the leader of his party.

Not for you, for people in the UK it is a little important.
Let's say it's the equivalent of having someone win the democrat party nomination for president.
Then put it on TV in the UK, not here! I remember when everybody was frothing over having a royal wedding. And I kept reminding people it wasn't our royalty.

I know about this, it just so happens that the executive branch needs to to have an order from the president to perform actions, and most of the power is held by the Treasury Secretary, who has the power of the economy once given the go ahead by his team. Then it's up to the president to buyout Congress so that his reforms pass, but he has to compromise so much that the whole thing is a useless cash drain. Damn politics.

You guys are going too deep into details. An executive order is all that is sufficient to turn the US into a dictatorship.

What exactly is considered "legal" in this thread? Just wondering, as everything seems like spam, difficult topic, or PCM banter.

Odd. Someone should really write a rulebook. And a side note, I must have a sad life.

I for one, dont like have serious discussions in here, and by that I mean something that ends up basically being a debate. F.e. the rollercoaster discussion a few days ago was pretty nice imo (might be biased since I enjoy them) but politics and things like that are usually more serious (and have their own thread anyway )

I have stop drinking pop for 3 years now because of High School soccer and have never looked back. My advice Valv is always have water or juice available at any given time so you know there is an alternative to choose from and easy off it slowly for the first week or two.

I went on a sugar diet at about this time last year. Had some crazy-low amount of sugar each day for 2 months, but it was fantastic. I felt 100x better afterwards + my skin was in much better condition. I only recently (last couple of months) started with coke etc. again, but almost always take water instead.

Yeah, I don't. I live in Amurica!
But seriously. Why the hell would anyone still have a monarchy?
And anyway, I don't live in that country! So why would I give a crap, and why would I miss TV shows for it!
That's the only right American answer, I applaud you, bblover!
Now I made a big mistake: it was sooo hot yesterday I left my car windows open. I didn't know it would be storming tonight |
