Tour of Oman - Stage2

i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/1_zps47aeafbb.jpg

Another day in the desert. Maybe this time the sprinters made it. Or perhaps another breakaway? Clearly, the two climbs can mess up all the plans. Let's begin.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/2_zpsd82b6234.jpg

Just after the start Cappelle(AJW), Thwaites(TNE) and Roth(CSS) break away from the peloton. Will Cappelle and Thwaites follow the same path as hes teammates one day earlier?
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/3_zpsd3e0ff90.jpg

135km to go
Valencia(COL) and El Fares(SOJ) in "no mans land", halfway from the peloton to catch the breakaway.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/4_zps0cc1d5d9.jpg

129km to go
The two groups join merge and upping the gap together to 4'30''.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/5_zps7996a65c.jpg

112km to go - Sprint
Thwaites and Valencia fight for the points, the british guy grab it. The gap up to 6'17'' from the BMC lead peloton.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/6_zps84142d5d.jpg

75 km to go
Strange tactic from NetApp-Endura, having a rider in the breakaway, but doing the pace in the peloton and doing well, the gap melt down to 3'55''.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/7_zpsdeaa384e.jpg

28km to go
We approaching the first Cat.3 climb of the day, the gap of the breakaway lightening to 1'34'' against the fast pacing peloton led by TNE, BMC and EUC.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/9_zpsc818ddc5.jpg
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/8_zpsea5b48c5.jpg

20km to go - KoM
The breakaway quintett contest very hard for the KoM points so the gap upped again to 2'03''. El Fares beated Roth and Valencia.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/10_zpsf6289fde.jpg

9km to go - Sprint
The things are heating up. At the foot of the second climb Valencia gaining the points ahead of Thwaites and El Fares. BMC and SAxo closing the gap to just 1'07''. The peloton seems mainly intact, but the GC riders are in front, not the sprinters. Maybe a surprise attack on the final climb?
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/11_zpsc67d4db1.jpg

3km to go - KoM
El Fares winning the KoM points, dropped the felow escapees and seems in good mood. Will he upping the KoM jersey with a stage win?
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/12_zps73147d0c.jpg
EL Fares have 48' to the rest of the breakaway and another 32' to the peloton. 'The pack is lead mainly by the GC guys, Pinotti(BMC), Evans(BMC), Peeters(EUC), De Gendt(VCD), Totti(IAM), Ghita(ARG), Pirazzi(BAR), Navarro(COF), Stromberg(IAM), Duarte(COL). But watch out, Bennati(TST) can keep up with them.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/13_zps9622bc3b.jpg

300m to go
El Fares winning the race uncontested, the 2nd place will be decided between the remains of the breakaway and the fast approaching Bennati.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/14_zps55aafdb4.jpg

Finish
After EL Fares Thwaites coming home and Valencia round up the breakaway Podium. The sprinters Bennati and Haussler(IAM) only coming 6th and 8th.
i1344.photobucket.com/albums/p649/Jakab_Zoli/15_zpsdee05cdc.jpg

No major changes in GC, Walker maintaining the lead, Thwaites up to 3rd place. El Fares gaining not only the stage win, but the mountain jersey.

NetApp have started this race like they are trying to impress a new manager...
Thwaites close today and Dermot keeping the lead is a pretty good start to the race.

A great patient ride from Fabian today sees RadioShack complete the 'easy goal' of a top 5 finish in E3. Nice to see Devolder back to some good form finishing in the front group.

Verboven disappointing, Boom not good enough, Vanmarcke attacking too soon again..

Boonen is 3/3 on the cobbles now, I wonder if he can make it 6/6.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
