I wonder if anyone is racing the Dunsfold (Surrey) closed circuit this Friday?
As fr my cycling, have got a Carrera TDF - heavy but the best lb for £ ratio bike you could buy!
I race for Chartteville btw - trying to improve on my TTs averaging 22/23 on a 10! |

As I've been saying, I've been prepping for my first event. Last night I rode about 21 miles. My legs felt heavy afterwards, but overall I feel really good. The route I'm riding is 29 miles. I feel really confident, and I just hope the weather holds out. Wish me luck, and if you have any advice for the last week leading up to an event, let me know.
Get exhausted the first three days by increasing the workload every day.
Then take it very easy (recovery ride) the fourth day, rest the fifth and ride a little at the event pace the day before, eating carbs and proteins those last three days.
That's the basic pattern to be fit at the event, having recuperated, and overcompensated the exhaustion.
Now if you're not going for a special performance, 29 miles should take you 2 to 2h30, nothing that's beyond the reach of most cyclists if they don't over pace themselves. |

Worst ride of my life. Wanted to do about 80kms and 10km from home a car comes out of the drive, doesn't see me and it's too late for me to stop. So now i have an expensive piece of waste in my room but most important, i'm as alright as one can be after such a crash. Bruises and sratches on my whole left side but no broken bones or simiar.

Wow. It seems there's something with cars and cyclists these days.
Have you gotten the car number or its insurance ? |

Of course. The women was really friendly, i was driven to the hospital and then back home and the insurance is already informed. She admitted it's only her fault so getting a new bike won't be a problem.
If i figure out how to connect my laptop and my mobile phone via bluetooth (i don't find the USB-cable and yes, i don't have a smartphone) i'll post some pics of my bike.

Glad you're ok. The ones that you can't do anything about are the scariest. Reminds me there is far too much in the hands of others human error/fallibility when all you have for protection is a thin layer of Lycra...
I avoid traffic at every opportunity but makes me want to go and live the life of a cycling hermit.

I just bought Specialized shoes but they are half a number too big. Do you guys think adding an extra sole would be a good idea?

Try and see if it works. If it does it's just fine.
Now I wouldn't recommend doing it, because an extra-sole will change the position of your feet relative to the pedals axis, so it might lead to some problems.
Must have been mentioned a dozen of times, but I had constant (left) Achilles tendinitis between September 2007 and April 2009, which prevented me from doing any sport (the tendinitis had been around since March 2007). It ended after some osteopathy and orthopaedic soles (to make a long story short : I have flat feet).
Running has always been more of a constraint on my Achilles tendon than cycling. Though when I tried cycling (only twice) in 2009, cycling with the new soles only led to pain in my tendons.
Ever since then (I only started cycling regularly again three years ago), I've ridden with only the normal soles, and have had no problems.
Morality : beware of extra soles and stuff like that !

Great that you're OK and good that she admitted it was her fault - someone I know had both his legs broken after someone swung across a carriageway and hit him and the court didn't rule in his favour. |

The (in)famous Espada, used by Indurain to set his hour record.
I think I liked Boardman's 1992/1993 Lotus bike better.
Notice the height difference between the handle bars and the saddle, as well as the bars joining the front tube in its lower part on the Lotus.

The Lotus is sexy as hell, but the Indurain bike is just more awesome because of its color scheme. Imagine seeing someone on that bike, you would be jealous
