In a two-up sprint Maaskant would win, but they'll be caught

Where are Gesink and Mosquera? They aren't anymore in the top 10 ! Is it a mistake or were they dropped by the pack ??? |

Where the heck did he find the legs? I could see it coming when Roux closed the gap with Maaskant.
Martijn hasn't been feeling well this Vuelta (with his double fall in San Sebastian AND Vattenfall on his right knee contributing to that I think) and said to me on email he was finally getting through this weekend and 'would try something' this week.
This was his try, but unfortunately, Roux was a bit stronger today. A good Maaskant would have won this, but he's now not so super. |

Just to elaborate a little more in case someone doesn't understand: Their bikes have locators so their time is taken by the computer when they cross the line. The spare bikes they use weren't detected by the computer, of course

Too bad Westra and Maaskant couldnt pull it off (weird attack by Westra btw in the decent...), but I must be happy for Roux. Great ride by him. Nice to watch things like this. |

Gesink is fine. Small cut on his knee, it's really nothing.
Mosquera is on his way to the hospital to check for broken bones. Let's hope he's okay

At least Gesink escaped. As for Mosquera... Gulp! Hope it ain't too bad. One of the best climbers (if not the best) in this year's Vuelta... Very strong in all mountain stages, always atacked... Deserves at least a top 10 finnish. |

Oh dear...
I'm sad to inform Gesink's injury is worse than it appears. The hole in his knee is so big, you could actually see the insides. If he can continue the Vuelta is unsure.
Well that would simply conclude an awesome 2009 for the Netherlands. As if we didn't have enough bad luck this year already. The number 2 in Vuelta crashing out would just make it perfect |
