He is a big lad, and he packs a lot of Power. As ive said, he is similar to Cancellara. |

Indurain was a big lad too.

A better comparison is Pereiro, who lost 1:40 without the jersey and 1:29 when he had the jersey. If Landis wasn't half-dead from the monster solo effort he had done, he would've lost more time.
Sastre has a chance that's equal to the chance of Evans crashing/getting sick/whatever. meaning: extremely small
I forgot about Pereriro. He's a fine example too, but as to the story about the Dynepo they've found in his urine, the president of the french anti-doping agency declined that story a few days ago.

Great race from CSC. Very nice accelerating - slowing down play in group by Schlecks to let Sastre gain more.
TT is not a pure power TT, but rather hilly one. That's a BIG plus for Sastre, he would do worse in one where you can go with steady rhythm.
But one thing surprised me a lot!
Why did they not let especially Efimkin to jump up to Sastre early in the attack, but covered? If Sastre had a partner capable of staying with him and make at least 10-15 % of the work, that would have been worth of sacrificing stage win for extra half a minute.
Also : Andy looked SO STRONG that he probably could have flown up to Carlos when gap was at 30 secs. and do it so fast that no one else could have followed without cracking.
They were putting their GC eggs in Sastre's basket so why use Andy to help Maillot Jeune or quarantee "just" a stage win?

Btw, as some one said, Evans got a huge amount of help from riders/teams with smaller targets.
AG2R was a) trying to minimise gap for team classification. They managed to stay in touch with CSC if they manage one HUGE breakaway & b ) moving duo of Efimkin & Valjavec to top 10 after Kirchen cracked.
Valverde was also attacking against (pick your choice) Vandevelde, Sammy Sanchez, Kirchen.
Why did Vandevelde pull? That's harder to understand. Maybe he saw Kohl in difficulty, but he didn't really appear to have much to gain.

Looking bad it could have been a possibility, but they decided to use him and Frank to mark Evans and batter him with their accelerations, but yeah, Andy could've been a good a helper for "Carlito".
Anyhoo, another great race from the team, and one step closer the overall victory in GC. It's going to be one hell of a TT, but the route isn't as hilly a it looks like.

Well, first of all, if you remove Vino as the winner, Rasmussen actually finished 10 on that stage. As for the Dynepo.. Even if it had turned out to be true, you dont improve your time trial by 4-5 minuttes. Indeed the chances of Sastre winning aint that great, but its still possible |

Except that that time trial had 2 major climbs and could be called anything but flat

Wasn't there a TT stage in last years Vuelta where Sastre finished 22 secs ahead of Evans?

no.
despite sastre being in his best form of the season and Evans half-dead, Sastre lost time on both the long power TT and the short very technical TT

well..Sastre will probably have he's best TT ever...but it isnt good enough.
But after all..we all looking GC table..dont forget Sastre took today queen stage win..with style.Playing smart...it seems like all this week he has been holding himself back..and but today everything out.
Fun moment..remember how Menchov was trying to follow....and this almost turned out disaster for him. But he came back..(thanks to CSC tactics)..great one.

It would take the ride of his life combined with a crash by Evans maybe. |

My mind keeps going back to Frank Schleck's words yesterday thanking Sastre for not attacking when he could've so Schleck wouldn't be dropped...

Just watched the stage, and great ride by Sastre.
Although if the two Schleck's rode for Silence, Evans would be in guaranteed yellow. They looked fresh nearly the whole way up

Mostly Andy i admire he's fans today. He was so relaxed...countered easy after any breakaway attempt. Friends this is a look for rider who hasnt any pressure |
