Great idea but boy, a battle with two guys at FTR 55 - I just tune in for the last kilometer.
Also, why no TT for those two sprinter superstars?
No but serious, looking forward to this most epic of all epic battles.

You can picture the scene already:
"It's Brouwer leading Hanzen, but Hanzen is gaining, the final decider for the greatest EPIC rider, and its going down to the wire. And out of nowhere Cervero appears. He zipps past both the star sprinters and claims the title. He wasn't even in the race but somehow he won! Delfi Cervero is the greatest EPIC rider of all time, it is official"
I'll go back to my dream world now
Maybe me and Brewers could have a Cervero vs Powers battle, two real titans of cycling there.

@LLS - Decent chance of that being Hanzen again Probably with Hinault after he wins Le Tour
@Shonak - Probably, but who knows! I thought about a TT, CB and MT stage but best keep it simple and to the point
@Hobbit - I mean obviously he'd still be behind Danny Pate

PS: while reviewing the HQs, CCC will lose a chunk of points as punishment for the earlier double accounting of their manager. With that, the case is done for me so let's all forget about it
Anyone else caught cheating, well..
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Hanzen vs. Brouwer - The True EPIC Showdown
Rules
1) Both riders have been provided with jerseys from the events sponsor but they are free to use team bikes, helmets, shoes and gloves.
2) No fighting.
3) Clean racing.
4) No blocking.
5) In case of a fall or puncture the other rider will stop and wait.
6) Even if a rider wins both MSR and Plouay the final event in Ponferrada will still be ridden.
7) Winner takes all! No rematches. No judges rulings. Everything happens on the road.
Milan - San Remo
The first of three days is the classic Milan - San Remo route. The longest of the events at 290km and finishing by crossing the Cipressa and Poggio climbs. Both Willem and Adrien were in high spirits at the start line, soaking up the atmosphere of the special event.
Hanzen was the first to stretch the legs at the top of the Tuchino climb. A short 10 second acceleration caught Brouwer by surprise. The first warning shot has been launched.
Not to be outdone Brouwer had a short sprint of his own with around 100km to go. Adrien was lot more attentive though and matched the burst of speed along the sea front.
Both riders hit the Poggio side-by-side! Brouwer would raised the pace, then Hanzen would raise it a bit more. Back and forth the mind-games played as they decended into San Remo!
Brouwer took the inside line cutting on the Via San Remo with 1000m to go!
Both riders threw everything into the pedals reaching speeds in excess of 75km/h. Faces contorted by pain, just looking for every piece of power....
Willem Brouwer wins by just a wheel! Incredible effort from the Dutchman to go 1-0 ahead in this best of three series!
Grand Prix Plouay
Day two brings us north to France. The Plouay route is the shortest day at 236km but each lap packs in a series of climbs and across the day this will add up into a tough and sapping race. The weather wasn't great but both Hanzen and Brouwer were fired up and ready to do battle!
This time it was Brouwer who started the games! He attacked twice with 163km and 103km to race. Neither time was a prolonged attack and neither time did Hanzen get caught out but clearly Willem was full of confidence!
Neither rider was willing to take lead going up the Cote de Ty Marrec on the final lap. They were practically track standing each other on the road to the finish. Brouwer had the advantage of a win and Hanzen could not afford a screw up....
Adrien Hanzen fires early! He launches past Brouwer and leaves the Dutchman standing! It's a huge acceleration that earns the Brit a couple of bike lengths advantage...
Willem is scrambling to fight back and tries to pick up on Hanzens slipstream. But Adrien is having none of it today and powers it home to take a clear victory in France!
Adrien Hanzen takes it by 3 bike lengths and levels the series at 1-1 and keeps it alive going to Ponferrada for a showdown!
Ponferrada
It's a long 257km day three, the final day. The route includes a lot of climbing with the long drag to Confederacion followed by the blast to Mirador. The tricky decent runs all the way to final kilometer of flat dash to the finish line. One of these men will win and claim it all today.
With that thought in mind neither rider is willing to waste any energy with attacks today. They ride at a steady pace all day mentally preparing for the final lap and never taking eyes of the opponent.
So inseparable are these riders that they begin the final climb to Mirador almost exactly level. With 6.6km to race a quick handshake is exchanged and then down to business.
Willem Brouwer takes the iniative on the decent, moving to the front to pick his lines. The duo race down the hill and towards town at great speed. Brouwer keeps tight to the inside as they turn into town. Hazen goes wider carrying more speed...
As they cross the line it's all over. The Sky blue helmeted rider is ahead and that will be the end of that ladies and gentlemen.
Spoiler BUT WAIT!!!!
It's not the finish line! They've just crossed the startline and this race is still very much alive folks. Hanzen may be leading but Brouwer is still in reach of the title. The Dutchman buries his head and gives his absolute last drop of energy to chase down the Brit in the final 500 meters and in fact he looks to be closing the gap...
Spoiler
ADRIEN HANZEN WINS IN PONFERRADA!!!
He wins the series 2-1 to claim the honor of Best EPIC Rider 2013. Brouwer looks distraught, a tear in his eye. Willem gave absolutley everything on these three days and it is a shame to see him leaving the sport so soon and after such a valiant battle. Adrien is the first to offer condolences. Despite the rivalry these two are still friends at the end of it all. Hanzen bounces up to the podium to claim his rewards and deservedly so.
Wins number 10 and 11 for Hanzen draw a line under this opening EPIC season. These final two riders can at last hang up their wheels and take a well deserved rest.
We look forward to 2014 and already miss the racing action. Thanks for reading and making this season truly EPIC!
- Brouwer
Congratulations to Adrien. When i managed to out drag him in San Remo i honestly thought i would win this thing. But credit where it's due and he beat me fair and square in those last two races.
I've loved my time in EPIC and despite all the media making a big deal out of our rivalry Adrien and i are friends. I congratulate him again and wish him the best of luck. Perhaps i'll come back in the future to beat him, who knows. Just thanks to my team for a great season and to TMM Sports Management for hosting this event.
Tot ziens!
- Hanzen
Yeah Baby! That is how we do! Such an incredible feeling to cap this season like this. Willem was an amazing competitor and pushed me hard all the way there. His sprint in San Remo was outstanding.
This takes my season wins up to 11 and i just can't believe i managed to break double digits. We've both broken and set records this season and Willem will hold those "First EPIC rider to..." awards forever and he thouroughly deserves everything he got this season. My agency, TMM Sports Management, did a great job in putting this event together and i look forward to doing it all again at the end of 2014 against a new challenger.
Shindigs out baby!

Lol, counting this seriously as wins is way too much.
But gratz Hanzen. Surely the voting of users will have a similiar result.
Fun read, TMM.

Lol, Imma let my three custom riders ride a GT against each other to up their win count.
And, umh, nice idea I guess to let the great rivalry of season 1 take an end.

Belkin would like to point out that while Hanzen has more victories, Brouwer's victories were of superior quality. Most of Hanzen's victories came from stage wins in smaller CT races, while Brouwer has a GC win, a Giro stage and 2 classic victories. Hence the lead of more then 200 points in the ranking for Brouwer. At Belkin, we prefer quality over quantity.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I have to agree, counting these 2 as wins for Hanzen is pretty low.

@Jesleyh - If it makes you feel worse Brouwer won the test race on the Vattenfall course
@Shonak - Just let Adrien have his moment ok! And good to know it was fun.
@Dippo - Had to be settled once and for all and no we know who is better
@Oldfart - Let it go ok. Hanzen won and is the better rider as confirmed by straight head to head racing.
@LLS - Did Hanzen win? Yes, therefore they count as wins Be glad i didn't count the Series as a GC win!

Well that was just amazing, TMM.
But it makes me feel even more sad, Brouwer will leave this.
