ZLM Toer Stage 3
1. | 32 | NED | | BOOM, Lars | Rabobank | 4.52'46" | | 10" | 2. | 62 | GBR | | CAVENDISH, Mark | Sky Procycling | 4.52'46" | | 6" | 3. | 65 | ESP | | FLECHA GIANNONNI,Antonio | Sky Procycling | 4.52'46" | | 4" | 4. | 112 | NED | | DE KORT, Koen | Team-Argos-Shimano | 4.52'46" | | | 5. | 45 | ITA | | NIZZOLO, Giacomo | Team Radioshack - Nissan | 4.52'46" | | | 6. | 88 | BEL | | VANTOMME, Maxime | Katusha | 4.52'46" | | | 7. | 38 | NED | | VAN WINDEN, Dennis | Rabobank | 4.52'46" | | | 8. | 6 | BEL | | ROELANDTS, Jurgen | Lotto-Belisol Team | 4.52'46" | | | 9. | 1 | DEN | | BAK, Lars Ytting | Lotto-Belisol Team | 4.52'46" |
The stage wasn't as selective as last year but ended with 26 riders battling for the win.
Andre Griepel and Marcel Kittel finished 13'10 mins down today. Cav should take his first stage race this year Bodes well Cav could do well today for his Olympics goal.
Anyone wondering how Cav lost it today ? It was around 10% uphill sprint

I didn't know Boom was this good in an uphill sprint either.
Nice finish photo BTW.

He won an uphill finish in Stoke in the Tour of Britain, last year I think it was. |

Very, very impressive ride by him. Destroyed everyone except for Aru by three minutes. Looks more and more like he's a future Grand Tour contender.

Annihilation as Squire said in this great French race. With one stage to go, only bad luck can cause Quintana to loose his 2nd stage race this year.
10th place was 12 minutes behind Quintana. Crazy gaps

Very impressive from Cav with the Olympics in mind but is he missing some top end with that bit of extra weight off that could cost him in the Tour?
Hope not and he has come good so many times in the past I should probably give him the benefit of the doubt but looks like the bunch finishes could be really close/exciting at the Tour.
After the last few days I wonder if the flater finishes won't be so dominated by Cav but he will start popping up where I would have expected EBH to be going for the stage for Sky. This being ZLM and not the Tour that's wild speculation rather than prediction

I don't think he cares much about one victory more or less in TDF when Olympics are coming. He'll do whatever he can in TDF, but he won't jeopardize his Olympics (weight-wise) |

Jens Voigt on Cav on Twitter:
Long bustransfer here, so i just keep writing.had an eyeopening experience yesterday in that hilly stage. Was like a little Liege Bastogne. We are on the famous" la redoute" climb and 2 of my teammates just attacked and went of the front. Of course some counterattacks behind... I try to keep them in check and its pretty sticky already, and there is 5riders just ahead of me, and then i look to side and guess what??? I see the worldchampion Marc Cavendish in his yellow jersey shifting 2gears bigger and just jumping to the counterattack, totally easy!!! I could see how Cav thought" i know i am supposed to be a sprinter, but i dont care!!" And he crossed the Hilltop in first place. I mean the biggest names in cycling used to fight and suffer with this hard and famous climb and then Cav comes along. Cav totally made this climb his bi..atch, i was sooo totally impressed to eyewitness that!! He is a champ, and watch out for him at olymics!

Cav is obviously aiming at getting Green in Hushovd style, should he complete the Tour. |

Has someone already seen the Route du Sud profiles? I'd like to see what caused those gaps. |

I have seen a lot of young Colombians rise to the top and falter not much later but Quintana looks like the real deal. I think he will become a top GT-competitor in a couple of years.. |
