You can always start a cycling museum Ian.
I have also started my MTB "season" (i dont have a roadbike, but bought myself a new 29"wheels mountain bike in autumn) three weeks ago, but god, i am so out of shape. Laying on the couch for half a year surely does not help, i found myself pushing the bike to one of the short and insanely sharp hills in the woods. I was simply not able to ride it over the roots and going of the saddle was even worse. My legs were like jelly.
But i am slowly building up, this Sunday i had a nice 30kms long ride through the woods (Czech Republic and South Bohemia especially are great for MTB with many nice paths builded in the woods, often it is up and down, up and down- i love downhill).
Wish me luck, my biggest problem is motivation and not going for a beer with mates instead of riding the bike.
Are you Sagan?
And I may start that museum, my dad still has a lot of old stuff from the 70s I think he left an old Peugeot-water bottle here
Ate well and took plenty of refreshment for my longest ride of the year so far (about 65km) taking in 3 "big" climbs (typically big=7-10 minutes climbing at an average gradient of 6-9%).
In contrast to recent experiences felt so strong on the way back setting by far my best time for the ride. Going to try to build up to a sportive route that features lots of climbs nearby in a 100km route. Could really do with losing half a stone, which is probably more challenging, but my hybrid bike is heavy enough by itself!
Does anyone here know how cycling clubs work in France? or Bordeaux area to be exact? ..
i'm here on Erasmus from Denmark, and i've brought my bike so i don't loose any shape for racing. But i would also like some group rides or just with someone once in a while. As it's boring to ride 85-130+ km alone almost every day ..
There's also the UFOLEP federation, I reckon it's something corporate, with a weaker level, but they do races, a bit like FFC.

Watched without sound. Is this about the motorcycle rider who ignored sign-givers and police and crashed into riders during a race? With his explanation: "I didn't see the sign-givers and police, I was concentrated on the road."
140 km, burning sun (I'm totally burned all over), I only brought one banana to eat and two bottles of water. First 100+ km route of the year. Almost no flat kilometer.
Route includes: Eikenberg, Molenberg, Berendries, Foreest and after 100 km as last one the Muur Van Geeraardsbergen. In total 12 classified climbs and about 10 more unofficial climbs.

Seriously take 2 bananas next time
Anything that doesn't (quite) kill you makes you stronger an' all that

Wow , congratulation! I rode about 100kms at this hilly profile (i am actually 1500m above sea and i gone to about 2100). Thats pretty good for any 15 years old boy (at least i think it is).
I felt a bit emotional this morning, nailing a back number on a cycling shirt (a TT suit actually), and using my road bike. First time in more than 10 years. Well this wasn't an official FFC event, but still...
As written earlier, it was a corporate triathlon and I did the cycling part (obviously), 21,8 km overall, the circuit is flat by most standards (it's not pan flat, but there's no big hill either). There was no wind and a fairly nice weather.
Due to the poor organization I had only 7 minutes of warm up before the briefing, and I had to wait 30 minutes for our swimmer to pass me the chip (in 4th position).
I must say I didn't feel too good with no warm up, and I couldn't pull big gears, but I still turned legs at around 100 RPM on the flat. I did the first or second time, starting fourth, ending third, 20 seconds after the 2nd team. 30 or 31 minutes, so that's about 42 or 43 km/h. Shame I had no extenders and no proper warm up.
I didn't really think I could still pedal like a pursuiter, nor ride that fast. That felt good. I was rather aiming for something like 40 km/h.
Our runner was better than expected, but we still lost 5 minutes on the best team and ended 4th overall. Meh...

Results have been published, with split times and all.
We ended the swimming part fourth, I started fourth, ended third 19" down on the second guy, in 31'25"/41,6 km/h (2nd time). I lost 1'06" on the best time, which is 3"/km. Probably less than I'd have gained with a proper warm up.
13th time on 20 (one guy got a puncture while waiting for his swimmer, so they abandoned after their swimmer ended his running part) for our runner. Bummer.
I'd have only ended up with the fifth time if I had done the running part, the fifth guy did 19'25 or something, while the fourth one was around 18'20. First guy did 16'55", which is far beyond my capacities nowadays.
No idea who he is, we were just registered by team names.
I didn't see any pro or any one dressed like a pro, so either an amateur racer whose name I don't know, either a triathlete who'd have cycling as his forte.
They sure were a competent team too, their swimmer did 6:56 on 500 m. I do that in 12 or 13 minutes at the swimming pool (I'm a bad swimmer but still...).
Full results there : https://www.triath...relais.pdf
No idea how they found the whole course measured 25,5 km, it was 500 m swimming, 200 m running, 21,8 cycling, about 150 m running for me, then 5 km of running. More like 27,6 or 27,7 km.
As I've been saying, I've been prepping for my first event. Last night I rode about 21 miles. My legs felt heavy afterwards, but overall I feel really good. The route I'm riding is 29 miles. I feel really confident, and I just hope the weather holds out. Wish me luck, and if you have any advice for the last week leading up to an event, let me know.
