EBH got upgraded from 74 to 76 hill in break 1. He'll be Sky's best option on last stage

He abandoned in stage 4 or 5, can't recall which one

Yup, it would otherwise overcomplicate things
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

True. That stinks. Although I think there should be an exception for people who lose ~18 race days in a GT.

Today is the last day for the sprinters that travelled here to shine. The bumps that are in the final circuit that will be ridden three times could be a problem for their plans though.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/BelgiumStage04_zps3dbf5c10.jpg

The uphill finishing straight is an ideal final for the Sky sprinters. It is not unlikely that they make it four in a row. Tom Boonen also wants to show himself after he performed under everyones expectations so far. Also top win contenders today are Theo Bos and Greg Henderson.

The beginning of the stage is very nervous with a lot of teams trying to place one of their riders in the breakaway after the first stages were a disappointment. Among them Bretagne, Crelan, Cannondale, Europcar, Cofidis, Champion Systems, Accent Jobs and Topsport.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0401_zps3ebb4207.jpg

Also a lot of teams are contributing to the pace making, considering they have a top favourite for today. The major forces are Lotto, Omega Pharma, Belkin, Sky and Euskaltel.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0402_zps70aa492c.jpg

It's one of these groups that reaches the first intermediate sprint. Friedmann (Champion Systems) leads the group through ahead of Lequatre (Bretagne) and Kern (Europcar).

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0403_zpsbb8ed0e5.jpg

Those are part of the first group that gets a gap of over a minute to the peloton, containing a rider of most teams that were trying to get into the break. Besides the already mentions Pauwels (Accent Jobs), Van Hecke (TopSport), Longo Borghini (Cannondale), Labbe (Cofidis) and Nys (Crelan) are in this group. They fail to get a decent gap though, as the field kept them at around 1'10'' the last kilometres in front.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0404_zps2beb783a.jpg

With 100 kilometres to go the gap finally grew, reaching 4'17''.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0405_zps93c66066.jpg

The next intermediate is contested by the first crossing of the finish line. Van Hecke takes it in front of Friedmann and Kern. 62 kilometres to go and the break is still 2'13'' ahead.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0406_zps7f02050c.jpg

The gap is constantly decreasing, because of the break not working properly together. With 30 kilometres to go Lequatre pulls out the consequences and attacks less than a minute in front of the main field. Longo Borghini, Labbe and Pauwels follow.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0407_zpsdb153b9c.jpg

This attack is without success and soon is the leading octett back together. At least their lead increased, so they are now 1'30'' ahead with 27 kilometres to go.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0408_zps531254c9.jpg

With 20.8 kilometres to go we hear the bell announcing the last lap of today. Friedmann leads the break into it, on the way also taking some bonus points ahead of Kern and Van Hecke. The lead dropped to 54 seconds. It doesn't look good foor the eigth in front.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0409_zps57ea449c.jpg

The group starts working well together and with 6 kilometres to go they still have a lead of 25 seconds. The chase behind is lead by Euskaltel preparing their sprint for one of their sprinters Verboven or Lobato. Even their General classification leader and wearer of the white jersey Ion Izagirre has to sacrifice his energy for that.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0410_zps4803ec2b.jpg

In front the strong split from the weaker and while the rest is caught Pauwels, Friedmann and Lequatre still have a small gap leading into the final kilometres.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0411_zps5166e025.jpg

Soon they are passed by two sprint trains though and their hopes are over. On the right it's Omega Pharma leading out Tommeke. On his wheel is Kakhi (Champion Systems) followed by Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) Pete Lixandru (Cofidis). On the right hand side to that is Euskaltel setting up the sprint for Rudy Verboven. Behind him are Theo Bos and the Lotto train coming a little bit late for Greg Henderson.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0412_zps7368b1ac.jpg

It's all very chaotic and soon Lobato finds himself alone the man he should have lead out was blocked by a helper of Tom Boonen. Rudy Verboven is trying hard to get back to Lobato's wheel. The Lotto train is now coming fast and already in the front.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0413_zps754223f5.jpg

Boasson Hagen and Bos picked a new wheel and are now in an excellent position. Boonen has only Maes left in front of him who struggles really hard to keep up with the pace of the Lotto train. If Boonen wants to fight for the win he has to launch his sprint soon. Lobato waited for Verboven and is now launching him.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0414_zps19a17eab.jpg

Under the red kite Henderson launches his sprint and Boasson Hagen is coming strong. Also Boonen and Bos are closing in on the front very fast. Kakhi struggles to keep the wheel of Tom Boonen. Lixandru, Lobato and Verboven are also making up ground now very quick.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0415_zpsa774adef.jpg

Boonen almost crashed into Henderson's leadout man who is now dropping back quickly. Boasson Hagen is still on Henderson's wheel waiting for the final punch. Bos and Kakhi meanwhile are trying to pass Boonen. Verboven is the last man of Euskaltel in contention, Van Avermaet has picked up speed now.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0416_zpsfafce7c1.jpg

It's between Henderson and Boasson Hagen, the latter is now trying to pass the Kiwi just before the line.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0417_zps1461ee70.jpg

Behind is Boonen already fading and Theo Bos looks the strongest.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0418_zpse9165629.jpg

Henderson could hold of Boasson Hagen, Bos gets the final podium spot, Boonen manages to overtake Kakhi, who lost a lot of speed and was even overtaken by Verboven in the end.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0419_zps57a2e577.jpg

Because of the bonus seconds Boasson Hagen takes back the leaders jersey from the shoulders of his team mate Thomas. Tomorrow is the last stage which is classified as hilly and Philippe Gilbert just has to be the favourite there.

Gilbert 45 seconds back, going to be a thrilling race, going to predict Gilbert will take GC on bonus seconds

Atlantius
Looks like that stage win will be hard, but at least the guys pick up some points along the way. Good to see Verboven finally getting a proper leadout and that Ion keeps his GC in spite of having to work.

Verboven better again. Bos as well, but come on, he should have had a stage win by now. Or if he is saving himself for the Tour that's fine as well.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

You can keep kidding yourself but remember that form doesn't exist in this world Wink

For the second part of the season, only Luxemburg left.
Do I need to check for the third part as well?

If PCM Support hurry up and answer my email, I could do some races. How long do they usually take if anyone knows?

Bikex
Let's get to the last stage of the 2013 Baloise Belgium Tour. Starting in Sprimont we get to see the hillier parts of Belgium today. There is almost no flat section in this stage, before ending with an uphill finish in Banneux.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/BelgiumStage05_zpsd56b6b4b.jpg

The favourite for today just has to be Gilbert. The stage winner will get 20 bonus seconds, which means that he needs to finish 25 seconds ahead of Boasson Hagen, who has already shown himself strong in the hills aswell though. He has very strong team mates aswell, that could make life hard for Gilbert, just to name Sithembile and Geraint Thomas. Also on the favourites list Schröder (Europcar), Verboven (Euskaltel) and Gilbert's team mate Greg Van Avermaet.

The first attackers of today were already allowed to get away by Sky. The break has already soon a gap of over a minute and contains Bravo (Euskaltel), Hardy (Cofidis), Wynants (Belkin), Van Goolen (accent Jobs) and Veilleux (Europcar)

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0501_zpsfb834777.jpg

The gap kept growing and growing and by the first time crossing the finish line where also the first intermediate sprint is contested, the gap was at 7'15'' with 110 kilometres to go. Van Goolen took the points ahead of Bravo and Wynants.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0502_zpsf800f5cb.jpg

With 70 kilometres to go Theo Bos has fallen and needed to exchange his front wheel. Here we see him at the neutral material car. He hasn't lost to much time yet and it looks like he will be able to get back into the pack. Jetse Bol and Marten Tjallingi are already behind the field and are looking to help their leader back.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0503_zps2f6781e2.jpg

The next intermediate sprint is won by David Veilleux ahead of Wynants and Bravo. 65 kilometres to go and the lead dropped back to 4'30''.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0504_zpsfad8dc60.jpg

With 45 kilometres we see the first attack of favourites out of the field. Devenyns (Omega Pharma; +1'18''; 15th) is followed by Piedra (Caja Rural; +1'54''; 41st) and Vachon (Bretagne; +1'52''; 38th).

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0505_zps1e8c3cd4.jpg

They quickly get a gap of 50 seconds. 9 kilometres later there is the next attack, launched by Paul Martens (Belkin; +1'05''; 12th). It is countered by the race leader himself, Edvald Boasson Hagen chooses the offensive tactic.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0506_zpsf9ab16f2.jpg

Group Boasson Hagen is quickly closing in on Group Devenyns, now the big favourite for today has to show himself aswell of course. Philippe Gilbert (BMC; +45''; 4th) follows the next try, that is by Christian Schröder (Europcar; +1'29''; 20th). Rudy Verboven also quickly jumps on his wheel.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0507_zps510374a9.jpg

THe chasing begins behind. Predominantly on the front are Lotto, Vacansoleil and Crelan, but also Omega Pharma and Cannondale send a helper. This is the situation with 28 kilometres to go:

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0508_zpsd5736d28.jpg

Gilbert's group soon closes the gap to the group of the race leader. After that noone wants to do the work resulting in the group soon caught by the peloton. The break is still 51 seconds ahead. Meanwhile they dropped Gorkaitz Bravo.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0509_zps547ccd0f.jpg

Paul Martens launches another attack, followed by Piedra, Vachon and Gilbert. Also Devenyns, Boasson Hagen and Verboven are somewhere between this group and the peloton now.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0510_zps25bff474.jpg

But they are despite an last attempt of Boasson Hagen and Verboven soon caught. Group Gilbert is now 31 seconds in front of the main field.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0511_zps350acc9e.jpg

But also Gilbert's second try wouldn't be successful and just as they are caught. Sky plays there second card, attack of Geraint Thomas (+9''; 2nd) , he is followed by Greg Henderson (Lotto; +47''; 5th) and Kakhi (Champion Systems; +1'21''; 16th)

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0512_zpsf70d53c1.jpg

Thomas seems to be very strong today and drops his fellow attackers right away. Gilbert with another attempt takes Martens, Izagirre (Euskaltel; +1'03''; 10th) and Vandewalle (Omega Pharma; +40''; 3rd) with him and is now trying to close the gap to Geraint Thomas.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0513_zpsde6c57ea.jpg

Gilbert didn't want to make all the work by himself and so the group is soon caught. Thomas is still 25 seconds ahead of the peloton.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0514_zpsf60c86f3.jpg

But let's not forget this mornings break. Wynants leads Hardy and Veilleux past the five kilometres to go banner and all of a sudden they seem to have realistic chances on the stage win today. The trio is still 1'07'' ahead of Thomas. The two other members of the former break are just about to be caught by the Welshmen.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0515_zpsa44b0f95.jpg

Behind we have another attack by Devenyns, he seems not to be tiring out. He is followed by De Clercq (Lotto; +1'28''; 19th).

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0516_zps681821ab.jpg

That attack just results in THomas beeing reeled in, just before also Verboven launches another attack, he is followed by Sky's third man Sithembile (+2'21''; 51st). Also Gilbert and Kakhi follow another time.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0517_zpsfcf06fe3.jpg

They close up on the fourth man of todays break. Apparently their lead to the peloton is 1'13'', but the trio of todays break is still 1'04'' in front and with only 1500 metres to go it doesn't look like someone could still deny their win.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0518_zpsd7242a37.jpg

Under the kite they start sprinting for a for sure surprising chance at a win today. In the distance Kakhi is the closest, but he will only be able to see someone take the win from the distance.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0519_zpsb21b7bdd.jpg

Wynants had the fastest accelaration, but him and Veilleux already seem very exhausted. Hardy takes the chance and jumps out of the wheel of the Canadian.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0520_zpsa496e711.jpg

And he takes it, what an surprising winner! Wynants can hold on to second ahead of Veilleux.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0521_zps14e4582f.jpg

Kakhi is the strongest of the favourites and takes third.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0522_zps137ad419.jpg

Verboven takes fifth in a sprint against Sithembile. Sixth goes to the fourth of the break Van Goolen who's sprint was even better then the one of Gilbert who exhausted himself through all of his attacks. At least he made the race exciting.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0523_zpsde795a7c.jpg

The second BMC man Van Avermaet wins the sprint of the peloton for ninth.

i1309.photobucket.com/albums/s635/Bikex/Reports/epicbelgium/Belgium0524_zps76717d1f.jpg

Gilberts placing makes him at least jump on the podium behind the duo of Sky. Kakhis strong performance makes him just miss out on the podium, maybe winning the U25 classification will be a consolation.
