Torres the best player in the world!
But great win. Fairly enjoyable match too.

Pretty sad to see Italy go out with barely a whimper. When they went 2-0 down, I thought there was not much chance for a come back given that Spain had only conceded once during the whole tournament, but when they got reduced to 10 men, I and everyone, including the players themselves, knew the game was over. Oh well, no one expected Italy to go this far before the tournament, then everyone thought they would not go past Germany, so losing in the final is not that bad in the grand scheme of things.
I'm just glad Torres passed to Mata instead of trying to score: having him be top scorer would not have been representative of the tournament at all. |

Feel sorry for Pirlo. But anyway, Spain was the deserved winner today. Congrats to them, but now let the others win in 2014, please. |

He ended up joint top and took the golden boot by virtue of time on the pitch im afriad
Spain came to life and were a joy to watch. Wether you like it or not, tonight they have proven themselves as perhaps the best ever team to play and (for some) to watch.. their unity and teamwork all tournament was just sensational - im really happy that a team of that definition came out on top.
As for 2014, why not? Germany need to rethink to move forward, whilst Spain can surely count on Mata, Pedro & co. to replace their aging stars. The other nations are really not on this level right now. |

Shouldn't have come back to this thread, you crushed my spirit by telling me there was a rule to separate players for the golden boot seriously, I think the 3 goals from Balotelli or Ronaldo were more important to their team than Torres', that's the only reason I'm not happy with him being #1, I have nothing against him (except maybe that he played for Liverpool, though I'm not as anti-Reds than some of my fellow Manchester United fans).
As for Spain being the best ever, they're definitely up there with Pele's Brazil. I like watching them when they play quick football, like their first two goals, but all their passing around and their triangle play, while technically admirable, is quite dull, especially when you consider that they can be so effective when they play direct football. |

Actually, you missed the only match where Spain didn't play boringly. Sure, they still had the big share of ball possession, but what they made of it was not comparable to the other matches. It was pure class and a pleasure to watch. I was cheering for Italy before the match, for the reason that Spain was so boring to watch, but I changed my ming in the meantime. They're just extraordinary, and it's also a quality to deliver such world class football just when it's necessary - in contrary to my fellow German compatriots...

Spain played a beautiful match, a deserved win for sure.
4 - 0 has got to be hard on Italy, though. |

I have to admit i was supporting Italy last night, but i cannot say anything bad about the Spain performance
They were just out of this world and totally deserved the win
And a big Well Done for becoming the first Country in history to win three major competitions back to back |

I like the way Spain play. To me, football is about passing, moving and not giving the ball away cheaply. To win you must also score and defend. Spain can do that and they play the ball on the ground most of the time.
Yes, perhaps they could be more direct but in general they can do what they do because of great skill and fitness.
England showed that they couldn't make simple passes and constantly gave the ball away which is why they are a thousand miles away from ever winning a tournament.
Are Spain the greatest team? Maybe, although I saw both the Brazil 1970 and 1982 teams and they were fantastic to watch. |
