I don't wish that. I don't want to have to pay for a Sports subscription just so I can watch the big cycling races.

Ahh, the day is here. The Zoncolan, the mass murderer of mortal souls.
Sastre lost a bit of time yesterday, but he didn't seam to suffer much. He looked controlled and rode smart, dropping early instead of blowing up, like he usually does. Yesterdays stage didn't really suit him well, this longer, harder stage on the other hand... If I had to choose anyone for today I might pick him.
This stage should suit Evans better as well, but he's allready kept his form since Ardenne. Shurely he will soon feel the consequenses of that?
From what I have heard, many people appear to be talking about Basso for todays stage. But I don't think the anarchy of Zocolan will suit him well. He's more the one continues steady pace kind of rider. Hopefully this will mean that Liquigas will try to take controll for the early part of the climb.
Not quite shure how Nibali will handle the high percentages. Not to well I think. Will be interresting to see how he does.
With that part about the steady pace said though, none of the favorites here are the Contador yo-yo type of rider (appart from Vino maybe, but I think he will suffer in the last week). I think a continous hard pace is in most people's interest.
Scarponi did good yesterday. Garzelli on the other hand was nowhere. Was he really out of it or was it all a play for the gallery?
Then there is Arroyo. If the pace gets high his minutes can fly by like seconds, but I highly doubt he will go bust. From what I have seen he does not appear to be that kind of rider. Also, never underestimate the pink magic. He's still got a good chance.
Anyway those are just my "few" cents. Not much time left now before the Zoncolan likely disproves most of what I have written here. |

The RAI guys were asking a few of the contenders who they think is climbing better.
Evans said "we'll see" (in a lot more words)
Vino said Scarponi, but that Nibali and Basso are close.
Arroyo says he thinks because Nibali attacked on the downhill, that means he must've been very strong, strong enough to think he could attack and wouldn't blow up later.
Given that Nibali has attacked on the downhill and blown up a vew times before in his career, and that Arroyo is an extremely conservative rider, I wouldn't give that much weight.

And Liquigas start pushing the pace.
On the first of the 4 climbs, no less. This is going to be interesting.
Peleton suddenly quite strung out.

Passo Duron is quite steep. Only 1 of 4.5km less than 8.6%. I'm hoping someone goes there. |
