Only 41 riders finished the stage in Japan, with another flat stage to go.
That Hugh Carthy seems like a nice talent, BTW.

I would be laughing if he didn't win in that competition. He definitely needs some morale boost, tho.

I didn't get to see the race, were there a lot of echelons like last year?
Porsev has found some solid form lately.

Victory for Mollema. De Maar keeps the leader's jersey.
Tour of Norway, Stage 4: Brumunddal - Lillehammer (195,3 km) (2.HC)
Edit: Apparently De Maar is a Dutchmen again.

Not sure whether to cheer for Mollema or for a rare De Maar GC win
Edit:
@Luigi Yeah, Hansen can stay at my house while I'm on holiday now.

A little word on the race. It was far from a normal bunch sprint stage. The peloton broke apart due to the crosswinds, where Greipel was part of the 2nd peloton. Unfortunately at a railway crossing the first peloton had to stop because of a passing train, allowing the 2nd peloton the catch the 1st group again. |

Great racing in Norway. A big shame Odd Christian Eiking crashed in the final roundabout 450 meters from the line. He said he felt super strong and would've challenged Mollema for the win. Rubén Fernández was also held up by Eiking's crash.
Fernández attacked solo on the final climb, averaging 8 percent over 5,7 kilometers. Eiking went after him later, and then Mollema and Hansen caught them both close to the top of the climb.
They then worked very well, as there were 23 kilometers from the top of the climb to the finish. But they were able to keep a gap between 20 and 35 seconds all the way, despite CCC Polsat and IAM Cycling doing whatever they could to bring them back.
The last kilometer was again uphill, averaging about 5 percent, and Nordhaug immediately started his "sprint". Mollema would have been in yellow if Nordhaug had waited for others to start their sprints/attacks.

I didn't see a 2014 NC thread yet, so I'll drop this here for now. I don't think anyone is surprised with the result...

He didn't go, only Phinney started for BMC, Warbasse is also there, but he didn't race the time-trial. Phinney and Warbasse are both expected to start the RR on the 26th, to the last of my knowledge.

Funny. Mollema said that as he attacked nobody followed, then he found the 3 breakaways (with Eiking). And he also said that he felt super strong and that even without the fall, he was sure he had won. |
