Back in 2005, Nuno Ribeiro was signed by Liberty Seguros the spanish ProTour team (of the same sponsor and thus same name). He was selected to do the Giro d'Italia.
On the first day, he was ejected for having a HcT over 50%
Just before the Giro he had been tested and his HcT was significantly lower.
The kind of large variation that can only be explained if the person is severely dehidrated to the point of not being able to stand (He was going to ride the Giro. clearly not the case), or if the person is pregnant (not likely) or if the guy's taken EPO/blood transfusions

Portuguese Cycling is going through the sink... In the past 2 years we've had our best teams disbanded. If it weren't for Paulinho, Costa and Tavira's team, which has now won their 2nd Volta in a row, we wouldn't even have youths interested in cycling...

They are DOM's. (Departments D'Outre Mer), so overseas departments.
There obviously are difficulties in taking the tour to Corsica, it should also be said that it's rumored that the authorities in charge are wanting a TT up Ventoux in 2013 too. It being the 100th Tour they really want to pull out all the stops.
(The ASO is going to Corsica to talk about the possiblity in the next few months).
If I repeat that some friends told me, Corsica is really a beautiful region and it could be great to see the Tour there. But about the reality that the Tour wasn't here at all, that's not only a logistic problem, I don't know if you know it but Corsica is a region with a lot of nationalists who want independence for Corsica. So like in Euskal Herria there are some bloody actions, but the difference is that Corsica independantists are racists and everything who come with that.
That could also be a reason. |

yeah i did know that, i think it was written in the report i read somewhere. You have that sort of problem but hopefully an event like the tour would be policed exceptionally.
There's a lot of challenges to face to get the tour there, i hope they can do it though.

The team manager of Liberty in a interview to portuguese TV said that there is no turning back, the team is over and he will retire from cycling independently of the results of second doping test.
He was almost crying.
It's a sad day for portuguese cycling. |

well I guess all endurance sports (nordic skiing included) are subject to doping scandals, it's just that none of these are popular in my country so I haven't been into the matter. all I know is football, cycling and tennis

It was reported by Kurier.
It should be noted that Kurier were the first to report on the doping clinic about 3 years ago and later the first to name names.
In both occasions no one believed them. And in both cases they turned out to be dead right.
So by now we should give them a lot of credibility.
They also say that these 184 different athletes are between 2002 and 2006, so the full number is likely to be higher.
