Court of Appeal declares disputed diffusers legal

Brawn GP BGP 001 rear diffuser detail Formula One Testing, 16 March 2009, Jerez, Spain. Williams FW31 rear diffuser. Formula One World Championship, Rd 1, Australian Grand Prix, Preparations, Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia, Thursday, 26 March 2009 Timo Glock (GER) Toyota TF109 diffuser detail. Formula One Testing, Day Three, Bahrain International Circuit, Sakhir, Bahrain, Wednesday 18 February 2009.

The FIA International Court of Appeal (ICA) has rejected protests against the diffusers used by the Brawn, Toyota and Williams teams, after concluding that their ‘double decker’ designs comply with the 2009 regulations.

BMW Sauber, Ferrari, Red Bull and Renault had all questioned the legality of the diffusers, but following Tuesday’s hearing in Paris, the ICA decided that race stewards in Australia and Malaysia had made the right call in declaring them legal.

Full statement from the FIA:
The FIA International Court of Appeal has decided to deny the appeals submitted against decisions numbered 16 to 24 taken by the Panel of the Stewards on 26 March at the 2009 Grand Prix of Australia and counting towards the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Based on the arguments heard and evidence before it, the Court has concluded that the Stewards were correct to find that the cars in question comply with the applicable regulations.

Full reasons for this decision will be provided in due course.

Looking at the weights of the cars, and therefore the fuel in each of them....I'll be amazed if Alonso lasts until lap 6 before pitting.

Webber and Vettel aren barely any heavier.

This was just a publicity stunt. nothing more.

EDIT: oh, and Rosberg is relatively light as well. Not running on a basically empty tank like "those three", but still very very light.

So will the top 3 be running on the super-softs first?

Seems impossible that they wouldn't, so I'd say yeah, they are Smile

I wonder how Brawn will deal with the fact the Barrichello is in front of Button with a sligthy heavier car.

Sutil seems a bit cursed in the wet, as soon as he looks set to score points, something bad happens

For the 3rd time in 2 races, the published weights were innacurate. They issued a correction of the press release this morning.

I'm going to stop trusting these guys to publish anything right Rolling Eyes
