And yet this keeps coming up. Many people like sprints, no need to drag out the "MOAR HILLS" argument every day there's a sprint.

Flat shouldn't be a problem. I think smaller, bendy roads are the key. Gets the peloton on a line, opens opportunities for attackers. Gives the wind a nice chance.

These big, wide roads kill all the action. Well, my opinion Smile

Partly agree! Anything to disrupt the near certainty that it ends in a sprint 2 days in a row - something that can mess it up and not make the result as clear cut. I guess unpredictability is the keyword..

So let me guess this straight, if the main sprinters all crashed it would be less predictable right? Making a flat stage exciting in your definition?

We should just put oil on the roads! To guarantee much more exciting racing

That's some fine between the lines reading, I must give you that. That exactly what I meant I would like all the sprinters and GC-contender to crash, break their legs and potentially endanger their lives. Its what I do for a living. Im a very sadistic person!

12. A. Whatever and however they grade you wherever you are from.

Yes, but if he doesn't like sprints, that makes his opinions about sprints fact. Duh!

I think you are taking things slightly out of context here. But you are such a funny guy, so I can hardly blame you. Liked, upvoted, attention.

Maybe you should take internet debates a bit less personal...

Maybe. I also think you should take me calling you out a little less personal - it has become a little childish at this point. No reason to try to ridicule me every moment and down vote all my comments - it was funny for 2 days, now, not so much more. Maybe to you, who knows.

You are a good poster. Or was. Why don't you continue instead of posting meaningless, little cheeky posts and engage in discussions without feeling the need for silly one-liners and gifs?

Can't we just all agree to play the ball and not the player, and instead focus on discussing what we are all here for, which is cycling ?Smile

All this because you don't like sprinter stages.

I can enjoy different kinds of stages, without telling everyone that their favorite kinds of stage "is a bane for modern cycling."

Its not because I don't like sprinter stages. That was just an opportunity for you to strike.

Its because I called you out and you have acted like a little spoilt child ever since. You haven't played the ball, but the man. You don't like me, thats fine, but every time I post its the same. Same one-liners, same cheeky, like-hungting remarks. You are so transparent

Ok having to post this twice in one week is just straight up depressing....

Let me make is simple, the News threads are supposed to be for News and actual discussion of that News. We've probably got a thread for other discussion, if not i'm sure you can make one. Keep the News for News, take the route discussion to Route Discussion, make a thread to discuss foriegn starts. Keep your discussions cordial and stay on point, no need to drag in other people or start slaggin people off.

For a summary on how to deal with "discussons" i'll direct to this post i had to write in the Giro thread. And then there was the note in the Weekly News.

Yeah I think a GT needs a good long TT, some people might think they are boring (not me) but they really do give stronger TT riders a chance to take time on the climbing GC guys and also force the climbers to attack in the mountains.

Sorry Manx, but have to say that in public...you take major part in dragging discussion into trolling waters, you are getting personal and ridicule lots of posts here which are very on-topic and now you are playing the moderator role suddenly. Either play it full time and be just strictly on-topic if you want to be the leader here, or be a regular poster, as you cant play both roles efficiently enough. Wink

If you want to moderate this dicsussion, you are doing it wrong. Smile

My last off-topic post on the matter. As far as route design is concerned, i am for fully balanced routes in all the GTs, with at least one cobbled stage, at least 50-80kms of flat TTing, medium mountain stages, MTFs and also 4-5 flat stages for pure sprinters, best would be in coastal areas where wind can come into play.

Yeah, your last point is the most important for me, as we have (and had in recent past) guys like Dumoulin or Wiggins, who are able to gain significant amount of time in long flat TTs to guys like Landa, Rodriguez or Pozzovivo. When you dont have long flat TT in the route, you just ask for defensive racing and Purito-style sprints with 1km to go...

Yep. The long, flat ITT is one of the most essential things in order to make a good race. The 60 kilometre long ITT last year in the Giro was epic. I think ITTs are great fun as long as they are impactful and not a 15 kilometre hilly affair where they won't lose time to each other.

If anyone cares: Caleb Fairly will retire after AToC. Yep, didn't think anyone cared.
